Well, of course the accusation is out there and doubtlessly believed by nearly every African-American in the good ol' US of A.
Certainly it is believed by the Washington Post's columnists, and would continue to be believed even if Cleaver appeared on national TV to apologize for a false accusation.
Hey Alpha - I've been listening to you spew for too long. Now, do as our good President says and STFU.
Now, now. Alpha's big enough to admit he was wrong on this one. Of course, he's making a minute by minute check of the infernal regions to see if the mean temperature has strayed below 32 F.
Once I saw the Marquis de Sade in a tiny local theater. My date and I were seated front row center. The main actor playing Donatien François kept stepping up inches from my kneecaps and continually hurled spittle right on me. Shirley, everyone could see it. Finally, I dramatically wiped my hand on my pant leg like, eeeeeeew. Everyone saw that too.
Cleaver told me: "I said to this one person, 'You spat on me.' I thought he was going to say, 'Hey, I was yelling. Sorry.' But he continuing yelling and, for a few seconds, I pointed at him and said, 'You spat on me.' "
Once a few years ago when I lived in Central Florida I was waiting for the bus to go to work. There was this young African-American woman there also waiting at the bus stop. Every few seconds she would spit deliberately on the sidewalk. I couldn't figure it out. She didn't otherwise seem at all angry; she didn't appear to have a cold, wasn't chewing tobacco, or any of the other reasons a person might have for spitting. I decided that she might have some form of Tourette's syndrome. Fortunately she ignored me, and then got on a different bus from mine.
The day the FBI arrested the Obama donor who threatened Rep. Cantor on You Tube, the local talking head reported the incident very briefly on the 11PM news and she said "but they FBI said this had nothing to do with the health care bill"??!! I knew she was full of soup as the FBI has no idea why the loon did what he did. But keep in mind the talking head, Renee Cheanault, is the wife of Democratic Congressman Chakah Fatah and she never mentioned the loon was a Muslim either.
Is this one of those hip ironic postmodern things where the fact that so many people believed Cleaver's claim to have been spit upon was really a claim to have been spit upon proves how much smarter he is than they are?
"No he didn't. Quote it." BWHAHAHAHAHA. Garage, sometimes (sometimes?) you can be so dense. Hey, I heard the Tea Party folks claim the sun comes up in the East!!! Quick, knock out a post refuting it!
How could Cleaver retract something he never commented on?
So your point is that the more accurate post would have been "Cleaver admits his Democratic allies were a bunch of race-baiting liars he didn't bother correcting?".
Hm. Point taken. Althouse should issue a correction immediately.

Lol.
Fake but accurate. In spitting accuracy is everything.
Clearly, there was second spitter.
I heard that it was Uncle Tonoose.
Anyone who applies honesty's cleaver to a liberal is a racist.
Liars lie. When will Frank claim he never said he was called a name? Or the other Black congressman?
Lies, lies, and more lies.

"Post-racial president" my a**
Jeez, isn't that amazing. All this time and he let the claims do their dirty work...
I'm sure there will be some beautiful and sincere apologies soon...

"Cleaver retracts."
Mrs. Cleaver says "better luck next time."
I am shocked ! The media has been running this story for two weeks now and it turns out it was not even a warm bucket of spit aka Joe Biden.
Cleaver retracts.
In your link:
"Rep. Cleaver never commented on the incident, but it didn't take long before many people claimed that he was spit upon."
How could Cleaver retract something he never commented on?

Garage,
He commented plenty
No he didn't. Quote it.

And that's where all this nonsense began, you can thank Courtland Milloy.
Garage:
Jayne's link takes you to a purported press statement quoting Cleaver.
But this just sounds like one of those Rosana Roasandana moments so Cleaver just said "never mind".
I am sure that MSM newspaper I cancelled will put Cleaver's retraction on tomorrow's front page.

Here is a revealing story.

I never spit on you.
And don't call me Shirley.
"No he didn't. Quote it."
BWHAHAHAHAHA. Garage, sometimes (sometimes?) you can be so dense. Hey, I heard the Tea Party folks claim the sun comes up in the East!!! Quick, knock out a post refuting it!
Mission accomplished.

This development is a Big F***kin' Deal.
If you drill down to the original interview, Cleaver doesn't make any retraction.

We must all hope that Mr. Cleaver's frustration and embarrassment do not cause him to go home and be unduly hard on the Beaver.
