A great coinage: "Appholes."

CONFESSION: The video clip looked beautiful in full screen size on the 27" screen of the iMac I picked up at the Apple store 2 days ago. So crisp I exclaimed "He needs to get his knuckles waxed."

One reason the iPad exists is because Steve Jobs doesn't like Jeff Bezos. It never surprises me that driven people sometimes drive things too far -- what does surprise me is when people like Gates turn around and start doing the right thing.

Microsoft is mercantilist, but Apple is fascist. Linux is laissez-faire.

That about sums up the difference between billionaire Bill Gates and billionaire Steve Jobs. Gates is giving his billions to improve public health by eradicating diseases. By contrast, Steve Jobs gives squat to charity.

In a way, the products Gates and Jobs make reflect their philosophies. When you read, "expensive, exclusive techno toys for fashionable people who live inside their heads," do you think PC, or Apple?

What the f**k is going on?

Something along the lines of "liberal gets bamboozled by poseurs yet again", I'll warrant.

I'm a PC.

Every so often Stewart looks up from his navel and sees whats going on - and also gets it right.

Good job, Jon...

John Stewart is a coward and an enabler of Comedy Channel.

I call BS! The video has a resolution of something like 640 by 480, max (unless there's an HD option I'm missing). It is *mathematically impossible* for it to look "crisp" on a 27" display, unless your pixels are the size of rice.

John hit the nail on the head.

...and I'm a PC, too.

I tried to watch the video, but I only made it through about 1:30 of this Scottish lad "Stewart" and his smirking, preening shtick.

There are few things more frightening to contemplate than this: This idiot is where many, if not most, college students go for hard news.

It's good to see that John can still be funny when he's not too busy carrying water for the Dems!

Actually, Pastafarian, the real scary thing, as far as the MSM is concerned, is that Jon Stewart IS where you go to find hard news.

He's just about the best journalist out there right now.

And THAT is scary.

But Scott, Jobs is a Dylan fan.

Haha - the great awakening for a doctrinaire liberal.."egads thought Jon Stewart, maybe I am a concervative"?

Bob Ellison said...

AJ, Stewart only read a news story about somebody who was mugged by reality. Not close enough to home to make him a conservative.

I'm an apple guy. Since the Apple II plus.

SFW.

"Scottish guy"... hilarious.

Whenever I see somebody raving about his Mac, I always tell him, "I wouldn't know about that. I prefer computers."

There is literally no reason to own a Mac.

so do you think the new iphone was intentionally leaked?

Apple has always been about putting other people down, and making apple users feel better than others. It's the David Letterman and the Barack Obama of computers.

Jobs is just an SOB. Gates is actually an interesting guy and a decent human being.

My guess is that Apple may have gone too far this time. This: Apple "Looking For A Public Execution" Over iPhone doesn't look so good for their image.

That said, there are those, like, I presume, our noble leader, Prof. Althouse, who really do prefer the Apple/ Jobs vision of the world.

I am not one, having been an in-house patent attorney with Motorola when they got shafted by Apple right after Jobs came back.

You know all you Apple bashers just can't get over the fact that Apple is the dominant tech company in the world today. They're wiping the floor with HP, Microsoft, Dell. All you Microsofties are panicking BIG TIME. AAPL to go to $500/share and $70 billion in cash by 2013.

Greg Hunt said...

Apple is close to $500 because of the iPod and the iPhone. The Macintosh is still a piece of junk. If you want to compare Apple to it's rivals, why not drag in Nokia, Blackberry, and the RIAA? Those are the folks competing with Apple's moneymakers.

I hope so since I own stock in apple. Bought it at the bottom last year. However the idea that anyone other than geeky bastards are panicking about a OS is crazy. I couldnt give a rats ass. Whatever my employer buys is ok with me.

hmmm 50 seemed low. I guess it was more like 75-80. Still I would be overjoyed for it to hit 500.

Um, no, not really. I don't have anything invested, emotionally or financially in Apple or its competition. I just don't like their philosophy of "You'll take our devices the way WE say they are. You're too dumb to customize it to what you want. Which is wrong and stupid anyway."

Oh, and they are far less compatible and open than many alternatives. I also get hives from the self-righteous Apple-ites who, for some strange reason, ARE emotionally invested in their toys.

Congratulations on your new iMac! I have the same model (27", quad-core i5) and love it.

Of course as someone else pointed out, the video will look crisp at that resolution only if you are pretty far from the display, but that's how real TVs work too.

I thought Roughly Drafted's Daniel Eran had a good point, though. How would you feel if someone took your iPhone and didn't try to contact you or the bar? The bar is indeed the logical place to return it.

Certainly they could have taken it, photographed it from 100 angles, analyzed what they could analyze and return it in the same day. To have kept it for weeks is not good.

I use Windows and have for years because it does what I want. I don't need a mac or an Ipod to look cool primarily because I don't give a damn what you think. The pc is a tool to get the job done. I was a consultant for years and the break and butter was programming for the PC not the Mac. Besides have you ever tried to give a presentation from a Mac. Usually people end up putting it on a flash drive and giving it to the PC owner to actaull show.

sorry that is bread and butter not break and butter :)

A half-ass call out. Stewart still kissed Jobs' ass at the end. He wants his cake, and to eat it as well.

As long as microsft continues to be WAY cheaper than apple, they will have a market (or whatever phone you can buy, or whatever other mp3 players you buy, etc..).
