I'm a connoisseur of headlines, and I love the headline in question form, but, damn, Nation,* could you be a little less obtuse.
Now, I've read the article, and... well, it's more obtuse and bizarre than the headline.

Footnotes aren't my thing on this blog, but since I've already done one today, I'm doing another:

Wow. That is the most deranged Palin Derangement Syndrome article I have ever read. And that is a real feat.
Trey
Palin endorses Hoffman, this Roarbacher(whatev) endorses Hoffman... and thus... Roarwhatever is Palin's pet?
Or is it... Hoffman is Palin's pet and the other guy endorsed Hoffman so Hoffman has a "taliban tie." How about... Palin's pet has Reaganite ties... Palin's pet has ties to big agriculture (he eats), has ties to big oil (he buys gas for his car), has ties to big Pharma (he takes a perscription med), has ties to drug dealers (bought pseudophedrine, once.)
It all makes sense to me.
And there I thought she'd adopted an Afghan Hound.
Oh yeah -- and of course the Nation is pissed that this guy is endorsing Hoffman -- he funded the Afghan mujahidin (sp? don't care) when they were fighting the Soviets, who were the Nation's heroes.
(the other kev)
The Nation has been a joke ever since Trust Fund Katrina took over. On the plus side, at least running the magazine has kept her and her friends from robbing houses in Beverly Hills.
Just reminding people that the right wing loved -- and funded -- the Taliban, until 9-11-2009.
After all the US religiougs right agrees with the Taliban on quite a bit:
* that it's good to have religion in government.
* that homosexuals are ungodly and should be persecuted.
* that women should be subjugated to men.
* that they are closest to God.
etc, etc.

...when they were fighting the Soviets, who were the Nation's heroes. .
Really? I've read The Nation quite a bit over the years. By all means, back that shit up.
Bear false witness much?
Rohrabacher was just nattering on about how Marxist Obama is, so it's useful to point out he supported the Taliban.
@Synova Don't forget to call him "The Hoffman" (as the linked article does twice.

Here's a quote from Republican Pete Sessions praising the Taliban:
"Insurgency, we understand perhaps a little bit more because of the Taliban," Sessions said during a meeting yesterday with Hotline editors. "And that is that they went about systematically understanding how to disrupt and change a person's entire processes. And these Taliban -- I'm not trying to say the Republican Party is the Taliban. No, that's not what we're saying. I'm saying an example of how you go about [sic] is to change a person from their messaging to their operations to their frontline message. And we need to understand that insurgency may be required when the other side, the House leadership, does not follow the same commands, which we entered the game with." .
For the record, the Taliban aren't the same as the Mujaheddin who fought the Soviets. They're the bunch of useless carpetbaggers who infested Afghanistan and took over the reins of power while the real men were off fighting the Soviets.
Oh I'm sorry, AlphaLiberal, did I miss the memo explaining that the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics was a rightwing theocracy? It's so hard for me to keep up with this stuff.
Andrea, you said that The Nation supported the USSR. That was news to me and what I was hoping you would back up.
And not with some "well, they didn't agree with Repuclicants to they must have loved the Commies tripe."
Alpha - Do you understand how it might be possible to learn from someone else's tactics even if you don't share the same goals? Of course you don't, why do I even bother to ask.
"I was attracted to the Volga Peace Cruise by a half-page advertisement in the February 27, 1982 issue of The Nation magazine. It read, in part, 'Find out for yourself what's going on in the Soviet Union capital and heartland as you join The Nation this summer on an exciting, affordable Soviet excursion.'" --P.J. O'Rourke, "Ship of Fools"
AlphaLiberal realizes that the Nation is so full of shit on this topic that he doesn't bother putting up even a token defense of the actual article.
But to respond to his baseless bearing of false witness:
"Just reminding people that the right wing loved -- and funded -- the Taliban, until 9-11-2009."
I'd like to remind people that Obama and his administration loves the Taliban, now, even after 9-11-2001 (note the year, AlphaMoron).
Associated Press:
Obama has talked positively about reaching out to moderates in the Taliban since he first announced a new Afghanistan strategy in March. It would be akin to, though more complicated than, the successful efforts in Iraq to persuade Sunni Muslim insurgents to cooperate with U.S. forces against al-Qaida there.
I clicked through and I have to say that I'm disappointed. I thought I was going to find out that Levi Johnston was pumping iron with John Walker.
And I thought I was going to read about a husky getting loose in Mullah Omar's closet.
Thanks, Synova.
I got a chuckle out of that.

Wrong again. It was the mujahadeen, the people as a whole. The Taliban took control later.

As a lady - and you are, you're a connoiseuse.
As in chanteur, chanteuse
Paul, that wasn't the Nation that AlphaLiberal used to read, that was the Nation's evil twin! Also P.J. O'Rourke is some kind of rightwinger now so you can't depend on what he says. (Hey, this is what I read in the new Manual Of The Way We're Supposed To Think Now, which was put out by the Committee for Hope and Change, 2009.)
Taliban Tie
"A fleeing Taliban, desperate for water, was plodding through the Afghan
desert when he saw something far off in the distance. Hoping to find water,
he hurried toward the oasis, only to find a little old Jewish man at a
small stand, selling ties.
The Taliban asked, ‘Do you have water?’
The Jewish man replied, ‘I have no water. Would you like to buy a tie? They
are only $5.’
The Taliban shouted, ‘Idiot! I do not need an over-priced tie. I need
water! I should kill you, but I must find water first!
‘OK,’ said the old Jewish man, ‘it does not matter that you do not want to
buy a tie and that you hate me. I will show you that I am bigger than that.
If you continue over that hill to the east for about two miles, you will
find a lovely restaurant. It has all the ice cold water you need. Shalom.’
Muttering, the Taliban staggered away over the hill. Several hours later he
staggered back, almost dead.
‘Your f***ing brother won’t let me in without a tie!’"
I bet she's worn a baseball shirt, too.
Baseball shirts are often made with Raglan sleeves.
Baron Raglan was a British General.
The British made Afghans angry.
Thus Palin is encouraging Taliban attacks on America.
Connect the dots, people.
"@Synova Don't forget to call him "The Hoffman" (as the linked article does twice."
Oh, no!
There is The Hasslehoff. There is not, can not be, The Hoffman.
It's from LauraFlanders, what does anyone expect? As for Rohr, it was a dumb idea, but welcome to the world of Realpolitik.
P.S. If any Scozzafava or Owens supporters want to do something effective, go ask Doug Hoffman about immigration at one of his public appearances. He's a bit more Bush-like than most of his supporters would seem to want, and this appears to be yet another example of the TeaPartiers being useful idiots for someone who supports policies that would raise their taxes.
Also, spread this Dick Armey video around.
It's Hoffman's cross-dressing that really should concern conservatives.
Not that Hoffman? Oh.
This is somewhere between "who's on first" and "Tinker to Evers to Chance".

That weird Vandenhooval woman (sp?) approached me, years ago, about them doing a story on my efforts to steer my gang-banging nephew in the right direction. It didn't happen and I was grateful.
I'm even more grateful now.

Really??

I don't think it hurts to once agin mention that the Mujahadeen we supported were not the Taliban, but mnorphed into the Northern Alliance, who we allied with during the initial invasion. "Charlie Wilson's War" did a good thing by mentioning Ahmad Masood, who was one of our original go-to-guys and was killed by AQ on Sept 10, 2001.
