Miss Indonesia, Qori Sandioriva, is being criticized for misrepresenting her region, which is Aceh.

"Islamic clerics ... say she should have worn a veil during the competition, in keeping with the traditions of her mother's province.... When asked about not wearing a veil during the competition, Ms Sandiorova said she believed hair is beauty, and that she is proud of beauty."

A veil with bikini.

I might be persuaded to go along with that.

In terms of shock value, she's effectively running as the Salt Lake City entrant in the Miss Nude America pageant.

But if all the other contestants for Miss Aceh were wearing a burqa, doesn't she have an unfair advantage?

Evidently Islamic imams are so threatened by beautiful women they feel it necessary to keep them covered.

In Aceh the imams feel threatened by Catholic school girls (who have been beheaded for less). It's a bad place with lots of bad actors.

I think we can agree that as fashions faux pas go, this is worse than wearing shorts.

Veils for TV screens is the answer.

It's even deeper than that. It isn't beautiful women that they are afraid of, but what they represent which is the lust that resides within them that they seek to keep at bay. They instead sequester their women in such a way that keeps a maximum level of restraint on them while making sure they are not taken advantage of by other men. In essence it's keeping your women herded from any competitor. It's Sharias answer to their own primitivism.

One of the finer examples of societal evolution. I've been duly Bissaged.

Just a few women and just for a few years get to look like this. It gives them a tremendous amount of leverage in negotiating a good life for themselves. It's an inexact analogy but think of an athlete with Tiger Woods' or Alex Rodriguez's abilities and ask them to give up sports because sports are frivolous and sinful....Societies that restrict beautiful women from merchandising their beauty should restrict men from packaging their athletic ability.

I am musing over some new lyrics for "My Sharona" renamed "My Sharia." If I get it done I'll post it.

Didn't President Obama already win the Miss Universe contest?

Let's have Norway give Miss Indonesia the Nobel Piece Prize and then see if the Mullahs from Aceh can resist her beauty. They will probably offer to trade 6 plain head of women for one prize winner.

I Googled "Miss Indonesia." I came up with numerous photos of numerous impossibly beautiful women.

Also this news story:

Losing the Miss Universe title may only be the second-worst thing that happens to Nadine Chandrawinata this year. A militant Islamic group has filed a police report against Indonesia’s Miss Universe candidate, accusing her of indecency.

Participation in the contest and display of her body in a swimsuit there “is actually insulting for Indonesian dignity and women,” the group’s lawyer told Reuters. The offenses involved carry potential sentences ranging from two to six years in jail.

Damn, I missed the Miss Nude Utah competition?

At the link, on the right were stories about how adultery is now punishable by stoning in Aceh and how the Sharia police are now enforcing Sharia law. Who needs the Taliban when you have these folks?

Miss America 2009 looks photoshopped.

I'd rather see something in the middle. But I guess the question is what males find attractive. Is that what you like now, guys? A woman with a lot of muscular definition, rather like a teen boy (with breast implants)?

I would be happy to provide her sanctuary!

I can see it now...

Ooh my little pretty one, pretty one.
Why did you have to come from Indonesia?
Ooh you make my motor run, my motor run.
Now the Imams from Aceh are gonna use Sharia.

or something like that.

Hey, at least you didn't google Miss Thailand because you would have gotten numerous photos of impossibly beautiful men who pretend to be and in some cases become women.

Oh dear. This is a landmine of a question. MEN!!! STAY AWAY FOR YOUR OWN GOOD!!! YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!!!

Gag me.

Ummm, in case it isn't clear, that's a firm NO.

Oh, and in case 'No' isn't clear (just came from the Hillary "No" post), that's a real No.

Beauty contests are watched by women, not men.

They're celebrations by women of women's attractiveness to men.

Men, given a choice, will enter farm animals in beauty contests, to make the corresponding counter-statement.

Maybe you grow them there differently in Wisconsin but Ms. 2009 doesn't look like any teen boy I've ever seen.
