"Boxing legend Arturo Gatti's sexy stripper-wife choked the life out of him with her purse strap while he slept in a swanky Brazilian resort..."

So say the cops.
The stunner's eyes were hidden by giant designer sunglasses as she walked to a police cruiser in low-rise blue jeans and a clingy white top that showed off the toned physique that first caught Gatti's eye.

The busty bombshell's purse was found stained with blood in their rented apartment at the luxurious Dorisol Resort in the turquoise-water paradise town of Porto de Galinhas....

Authorities detained the tight-bodied beauty early yesterday because of contradictions in her story when she was first questioned...
The stunner... the busty bombshell... the tight-bodied beauty... Soon to be: the lovely lifer, the comely convict, etc. etc.

She's pretty, but, apparently, she murdered a man... with a purse strap...

UPDATE: The death is ruled a suicide, on the theory that it "would have been impossible for her to suspend and hang a man of that size."

For anybody whose a boxing fan like myself, Gatti was just one of the true warriors in all of sports. The Gatti-Ward trilogy was as epic as it comes and is up there with the great sporting rivalries of the last 30 odd years.

On another note, us men have now officially been warned!

True warrior, done in by woman with purse.

This guy could take unbelievable punishment in the ring.

What gives?

She must have really liked the purse.

I admit to being surprised about the murder weapon. No matter how asleep, and how prepared she was, I would be leary of attempting to strangle a champion boxer. Things can go wrong and it takes more than a few seconds.

With a knife, you might get tossed off sure, but the knife strike is going to significantly weaken the opponent at the least, and ultmately any well pleaced slice or stbb will prove fatal in seconds if not minutes.

On the other hand, you have to suspect a crime of passion and those are not well thought out. Hence keeping a blood stained purse.

Another example of death caused by the culture of purse straps. The Government needs to confiscate all purse straps to protect men from tight bodied strippers. If she had not had such easy access to that purse strap, Gatti would still be alive today.

Like Ali, if you had witnessed some of the abuse that he's taken just to the head, you'd wonder how he wasn't just a complete vegetable at this point. It probably wouldn't take but a few seconds of choking to have the complete blood flow to his brain stop.

The English language works in mysterious ways.

A boxer’s money winnings are called a purse.

The woman (looked at from the context of the story) you could say was another purse.

And then there was the bloody purse.

I'm skeptical. Look at his well muscled neck and look at her thin arms.

At some point during the choking he's going to wake up and try to break the choke hold. No way that she could stop him from doing that, unless he was under the influence of some powerful sedatives.

Did he look at her ass in a demeaning manner?

Making the Brooks “entire dinner” groping story all the more implausible ;)

drugs? alcohol?

IMHO, if he is face down and she can get the strap under his head, using it as a garrotte is possible. kneeling on his back or straddling him would be required, and she would lean back. Obviously whatever position, she needed to avoid his hands. I dont see that happening unless he was face down

Maybe it’s a sex gone bad deal.
I do seem to remember him all bloodied in all the fights I saw.

Sounds feasible, but wouldn't that require some training on her part? As a processional boxer he's going to have an exceptionally strong neck and great explosive power. Unless she was well versed in martial arts, I doubt she could handle that.

Also, there's going to be a lot of pressure on the purse strap, I think a simple plastic one would break.

The violence had been a prelude to sex between consenting adults.

Until one day, ladies and gentleman of the jury, it all went terribly wrong.

In March 2009, Gatti was charged with assaulting his then girlfriend Amanda Rodrigues, but failed to appear in court. When he appeared April 17, he was released on bail and was ordered to stay 200 meters from Rodrigues.

That’s a little over two football fields ;)

Anonymous said...

It appears that she whacked him over the head with a blunt object from behind, and strangled him with the purse strap while he was unconscious. There's no way in creation she could have strangled him while he was conscious.

Amanda Rodrigues would have committed the perfect crime if only she had left the purse strap wrapped around her husband’s genitals.

Good one (though we probably shouldn't crack wise about a murder). There was a time when I would have had your comment go through my brain in Bogart's voice. Having watched and rewatched "Miller's Crossing" a number of times in recent months, it was Gabriel Byrne instead. And now, thanks to you, I'll be hearing it all day (along with the other voices).

When I was young I was robbed by two young spooks who choked me with a rope. I know, it hardly compares to the rugged boxer and his wife, but I learned that I didn't like having a tourniquet on my neck and was willing to pay good money to have it removed.

I think you would wake-up if your breathing was obstructed. If she choked more gently and just cut-off blood to the brain at first then he wouldn't wake-up.

We practiced this kind of choke-hold in Judo and you quite painlessly black-out when it is applied. This contrasts with the choke-holds we practiced in Marine basic training. Those block the windpipe and hurt like hell. You don't pass out quickly, but you can't yell for help--which is the point of that hold.

However all in all it is clearly preferable to a tawdry relationship with an egomaniacal spinster educator.

Most of all to feared in one who still has a firm grasp of both the purse and the apron strings.

"Busty" is the wrong word. From my pixel-by-pixel analysis of the picture she's only a B cup. For calibration purposes, I would consider JAC's girlfriend to be busty.

Been a long time since I heard that particular ethnic slur.

Yeah, he'd still be alive if he'd picked up only the "right women" in strip clubs.

NotWhoIUsedtoBe said...

Yeah, it seems weird that she could strangle him.

However, I can think of a few ways. She could have had leverage or found a way to use her body weight.

Speculation, but it's not impossible for a much smaller person to strangle a larger one.

Don't discount evidence just because it seems "wrong." If the evidence is that something happened, that's probably closer to the truth than a narrative that makes more sense but has no proof. Something "wrong" is a good reason to look for more evidence, but is never a reason to ignore evidence you have.

You laugh, but one of my fellow law students was a devoted wife and mother who had worked as a stripper to pay for college. She graduated Order of the Coif and has a solo practice today.

Yeah, it seems weird that she could strangle him.

I got an idea over the weekend. A young friend of mine overcelebrated his birthday and passed out. Maybe the boxer was unconscious when she choked him.

Oh please--that woman could never strangle that man. She used another weapon first--there was blood on the purse--then used the strap to make sure he was dead. That's what any sensible person would do.

New adage: I've got a purse strap, don't make me use it.

When you bed a woman, well, from something nonthreatening, like the local food co-op, you could probably sleep soundly, but when you bring one home from the local strip club, probably, it would be a good idea to sleep with one eye open.

Nichevo said...

Easy. She tied it around his neck, didn't stay there holding on like in a movie. She put a slipknot or something in the purse strap, got it around his head (or looped it and then tied the knot), pulled the noose TIGHT, and jumped away while he thrashed, tried to claw it off his neck, and ultimately succumbed. Every struggle would have consumed more oxygen and taken him out faster.

No? Unpossible?

Of course there is info missing which would make this more or less believable.

Galactus1975 said...

It'd pretty easy for her to snuff Gatti out if he was that drunk.

He's passed out drunk (she probably encouraged Gatti to drink more that night), then, as we're led to believe by the police, she stabs/hits him in back of the neck, then he's lying face down, she straddles him, puts the leather strap around his neck and pulls, almost like a sleeper-hold.
Only she kept pulling until he was toast.

And even worse, it now looks like authorities are viewing this as a SUICIDE. She's either fucking the coroner, the police or both.

The ironic thing about this...is that Gatti, for all his mega-tough fights...was finally taken out by a 23-yr old stripper.
