The rains have come to Georgia, and the cooler temps are like September weather in July. We must pilgrimadge to Amelia Island tomorrow. The son has a Trial Lawyer's Seminar at the Plantation and will share the adjoining condo for 3 days. Then we are on our own for 4 days of vacating from our work. Golf in 85f is OK for 9 holes. Can anybody suggest some new books to read at the beach?
Here's a random topic that I'll just throw out there because it's been bothering me -- liberal commenters can consider it their opportunity to call me an asshole:
I've noticed evidence of increased economic activity at work recently. This has me worried.
Imagine what might happen if the economy recovers just a little bit, in spite of (not because of) the efforts of the Democrats in charge. They'll take credit for it, the media will herald any minor upturn as unprecedented prosperity, and Obama will win a second term.
At that point, with nothing to lose, Rahm Emmanuel will announce "Now, no more Mr. Niceguy", and Obama et al will crush the US with the iron fist of Stalin. Nationalized everything; mandatory union membership; "progressive" tax rates that will make everyone's take-home pay just over poverty level; ACORN in charge of not just the census, but nationalized education and voter registration.
Should I increase the dosage on my medication? Or do others share this concern?
Apparently Paul Zrimsek objects to what's at my link, but isn't smart enough to articulate his concerns. If he were anybody, he'd be another example of the point I'm trying to make.
Speaking of birthers, I've been having a wild time over at - of all places - Scienceblogs, and could really use some help talking some sense into these people (traditionalguy?). Scientists sometimes strike me as being more bone-headed than most, and this "dialogue" is one of the best examples of that phenomena:
It started off with the blogger, who I know pretty well, being racist against birthers because they don't trust Obama's heritage.

And here's a doozy of a comment:
Mike Hughes says: This is getting ridiculous. No more wussyfooting with the Blue Dopes. I thought that is why Obama brought on Emanuel. He needs to let the pit bull loose. You let Emanuel do his thing and he will threaten those who would oppose the party line with some good old-fashioned Chicago hardball. And he will put progressives up against them in their districts - the machine knows something about winning elections. Rahm has sent opponents fishes, so to speak, in the mail. he told one of the leaders of the free world Tony Blair: ""This is important. Don't ---- it up." He once stabbed a table yelling out the name of political opponents calling them "Dead." It's crunch time, Obama needs to have his right hand man threaten the livelihoods of these Blue Dogs for not dealing on heathcare. July 29, 3:39 PM
Nice to see them admit they engage in mafia-style thug tactics.
I didn't read the "Crack Emcees" comments at the link, but I did just leave a comment pointing out that a Robin Levett is wrong.
Note: I usually recommend turning against the poster of the original blog entry and showing their readers how they're wrong rather than engaging in long battles with sockpuppets.
In a few hours the great reconciliator will twist the caps on a good American beer to share with two guests. My guess is they will be limited to one bottle each, as neither wants the cop hanging around there too long after dark getting drunk.
I plan on celebrating the historic occasion with a Negra Modelo. And no, not for that reason.
Laura, I thought it was a hoot and I let out one of those cackling laughs that frightens cats, children and sensitive persons so I say you did “excellent.”

For those who want to zero in on politics, I use the "Birthers" issue to point out that the leaders of the opposition to Obama are still completely incompetent.

Fixed.

Those flowers are lovely but I really need to know whether there are grains of rice at the bottom of that salt shaker.

Be sure to give them The Macho Response.

What is in the shaker behind the zinnias? It does not look like traditional black pepper.
The white zinnias probably match well with the salt.
I know exactly how this kid was feeling ;)
Rush says at closing that he's doing his part to protect the environment. He instructs the jet pilots to throttle back to 500mph to save fuel.

Speaking of ‘birthers’.
Rumor has it that Obamacare will move back births to seven months to save money ;)
What if Bush or Chaney had asked a ‘racially aggrieved’ black man to come to the WH for a beer summit?
Those aren't zinnias. They are daisies.
Thank you Skippy!
Always nice to see someone who understands plants.

Could be rice.
Or could be insect larvae.
Your stomach acid
Will take care of it either way.
Or if that doesn't comfort you -
In a million years
It won't matter at all.
Deep.
How'd I do?
What special about August 1?
Half off selected Kellogs items.
