I love Regina Spektor, although I liked SOVIET KITSCH better than her last album. (Her two albums previous to SOVIET KITSCH are wonderful and varied, as well.)
Got the album last week and have been listening to it non-stop ever since. "Human of the Year" is her masterpiece. "Dance Anthem of the '80s" is also brilliant. She makes Tori Amos look like an old boring hag and Fiona Apple seem like a pretentious brat (and this is coming from a devout Tori-phile and Fiona fanatic).
Regina Spektor is new to me. She has the same poetic lyrics that attacted our generation to a young Bob Dylan 40 years ago, and a better voice to boot.
BTW, I'm sure Althouse would encourage folks (who are less resourceful than ZPS) to go ahead and purchase this CD and "My Dinner with Andre" through her Amazon link. They're both released on the same day.
I'm a huge Regina Spektor fan. She's my fave singer since...my main man Morrissey. :)
I figured Althouse might've been exposed to her, because I remember her son posted something about her once (her cover of "Real Love"). Althouse is pretty "with it" and cool for a law prof.

"Laughing with" is especially affecting.
Fortunately, with the internet and xm/sirius, artists such as she can be discovered by the public.
I'm so glad her album is coming out, I've been desperate for some new music, not that I haven't been having a good time rediscovering old loves.

She has a timeless sound and a face for video storytelling.
Fidelity should have been a bigger hit.
Laughing with makes me think of Bill Maher and Chris Hitchens.
She has a real human beauty on the inside and on the outside and no tatoos were needed. Thanks for the heads up, Professor.

Insert sex joke here.

this is why I like that the characters in spongebob have swimming pools in the ocean. it makes sense.
YES!!! Althouse is a Regina fan! Far is her best album ever! This collection of songs will bring forth laughs and tears.

Given her musical talent and her phonetic last name, I certainly hope she doesn't become holed-up in the Hills with guns and a bad wig.
OK, I was hoping it was Ronnie Spector, and this is not my cup of old fart tea, but the marketing is brilliant. I hope she sells a lot.
For something a little weirder but similar, check out Lights.

Thanks for letting me know about the new album! I'm a big fan of Regina Spektor.
Of course ZPS was early.
He had a link to a track from this album months ago.
I'm looking forward to his Christmas mix for 2009. Will it include a track from this album? Time will tell.
Waiting sucks.
