Said "American Idol" finalist Kris Allen.[Allen is] a 23-year-old college student who has worked as a worship leader at the New Life Church in his hometown of Conway, Ark. "I hope it has to do with your talent and the performance that you give and the package that you have. It's not about religion and all that kind of stuff."
So... some people think they are voting for
religion and — what? — against some presumed immorality of Adam Lambert?
Lambert, a 27-year-old theater actor from San Diego who once worked in the Los Angeles cast of "Wicked," heartily agreed. He said he does not think the contest "has anything to do with your religious background, what color you are, your gender. It doesn't have anything to do with that. It's about music....."
Music and your
package. That's what Kris said.

On the soup this weekend they had a pretty funny commentary on the way everyone is pretending not to even notice the gay issue. They had a clip of a reporter saying, "you are the first american idol..."
And lambert is like, "the first 'what?'" The reporter couldn't even bring himself to say it.
So i think that maybe that is Kris's oblique way of being gracious on that issue.
Except there is one thing. literally i had no idea he was a religious guy. it isn't surprising, but the thought hadn't crossed my mind.
There is an old story i heard about a certain politician, that in his first campaign, close to the election, he came out in fury about the allegations that his opponent was a sexual deviant. The only thing is, there weren't any charges that his opponent was a deviant. So he created the rumor while pretending to rise above it, or so the story went. Don't know if it is true or not (which is why i left out the politician's name) but it has the ring of truth.
I don't think Kris would be so underhanded to bring up his religion while pretending to be above that, but logically its a possibility.
The Christian vote seems to be going into the closet that the Gays came roaring out of. No one likes to be hated.
I doubt Kris is being underhanded wrt to Adam. The two seem genuinely to like each other.
So Ann,
This sounds like it's your problem.

There seems to be no real issue here - not everyone even knew Kris is "religious", just that he's answering some reporter looking for an angle (ever give an interview and have weird, out of context quotes show up in the final story?).

We all know your stand on things gay. Does that for some reason create your problem with American Christians?
What an incredible crock this "issue" is.
I am a conservative Christian and I think Adam Lambert should win because he is a fabulous singer.
However, the vote is on the whole package and Adam's presentation can be pretty extreme. It used to be that "wholesome and clean cut" was generally considered a positive thing. It may be that some people still feel and vote that way. That does not make them Christian "fundies" or homophobic.
Should we be concerned that Adam may have cornered the gay vote? That seems as likely. Wow! And what if he is just passing?
madison man
Let me be clear. i don't think Kris is doing that either, it was just something that crossed my mind. so we actually agree.
I personally like that everyone is playing very nice in this. i mean, i am sure adam and kris will play to win, but they won't play dirty, or petty. And both of them don't seem to be egotistical people, either.
I thought the two Davids last year also genuinely liked each other, and probably still do.
My opinion is that the two finalists recognize and appreciate talent when they see it.
Now that America finally wised up and put the Go in Gokey, I'm a happy camper. I think either finalist is incredibly talented -- but I do think Kris will sell more records. We'll see.
This is entirely a media-driven issue. If Adam loses, they can trot out the anti-Christian thing and jab Miss California a few more times. Ask Clay Aiken how traditional Americans hate gay entertainers! And what's with the "gush" verb? Are they mocking Adam?
Don't perpetuate this crap!
I most enjoyed when Adam wore the harness and leather chaps and belted the Eva Cassidy version of "Over the Rainbow". It just tied so many things together very neatly for me.
Oh, so there's a brouhaha. That explains the recent (and seemingly random) proclamation by an acquaintance that "just for the record, the fact that she was a Christian had nothing to do with the fact that she wasn't voting for Adam Lambert". I wasn't sure why that needed to be on the record.
At my church we have been given the directive to vote for Kris.
So I will. Kris has to win. It is God's plan.
If Adam wins it is Satan's plan and the world will end in 32 days.
We all know your stand on things gay. Does that for some reason create your problem with American Christians?
huh?
This all reminds me of the conversation I had 4-5 years ago when Ruben was up against Clay. My friend (a liberal NY'er) insisted that Ruben could never win American Idol because all of the "racists in Alabama would vote against him". There was so much wrong with that comment, my head literally exploded.
He said "package". Heh heh. Heh heh.
I'm sure some will vote for Kris because he is Christian just as some will vote for Adam because he is (presumably) gay. Me? I enjoy watching both but will vote for neither.
Presumably gay Bushman?
He is gayer than a three dollar bill.
He fell from the gay tree and hit every gay branch on the way down and landed on a guy...and did him.
He's got lady hips too.
That is one of the gay cardinal sins.
Gokey votes are gonna break to Allen FTW. What's up with gay Idol finalist coming in second place? Where's Richard Hatch?
-The Other Jeremy
He's got lady hips too
LOL. Titus, his hips don't do much for me either but he was clearly the best tonight.
