"His priorities were cigarettes, Dr Pepper, hot Cheetos and, once a week, he would buy C batteries."

"He never asked for money, but people gave him money... Poor man, may he rest in peace."
"He was Mr. John," [an old woman] cried out in Spanish. "I don't even speak English, but I would say, 'Hi, Mr. John, happy today?' "...

"Karma is coming," [one man] said. "Karma is going to come and get whoever did this."

This is clearly a hate crime.

There was a homeless man savagely beaten to death by a pack of kids here in Cleveland this summer, for apparently no reason.

There's a lot of animosity and sadism out there, I guess.

People getting doused with gasoline and set on fire seems to be a trend, too. Or maybe that's my imagination? There's been multiple stories in Cleveland this year of people being murdered that way (though they were related to drug disputes, unlike this case) and I was worried it was some kind of trend in my city. Now I'm worried it's a trend nationwide.

Sometimes I wonder if the death penalty is justified. Cases like this make me say, "Yes. Yes it is."

What a horrible thing to do. I hope they catch the bastard, and he rots in hell.

It was "only" a white bum doused and burned alive. If hispanic thugs had done it to a black man, it would be national news because blacks have civil rights.

And as we speak investigators from Justice Dept's Civil Rights Division would be sweeping in to find who did such an animalistic, unthinkable thing to a poor black man.

But the homeless guy being white, not a big deal to either the media or Bush's Justice Dept.

Welcome to third world America.

The death penalty is too good for the souless animals, walking around as if they were human, who did this.

Hey, the same thing almost happened to Bobby Fuller in LA: they just forgot to light the match. But nobody ever talks about that.

As a native Californian, I've watched the entire state - and especially southern California - degrade before my eyes over the past twenty-five years.

L.A. is a sewer lined by white porcelain of Malibu and Beverly Hills. But even the pretty people are fleeing to Montana, Iowa and similar areas...

Wait, not to get to caught up in the trivia, but as a fan of Dr. Pepper and Cheetos--what the hell are hot Cheetos.

Ohhhh. "Hot" as in "spicy". Got it.

More on topic, there is no awfulness about the human condition that the press can not make a thousand times worse by magnifying with attention.

I blame Don Henley.

Luckily if Obama is elected President we won't be hearing about homeless people for the next four years.

Troop--

True. We'll hear about nothing but sunshine and lollipops.

Might be worth it.

In the Big Rock Candy Mountains there's a land that's fair and bright,
Where the handouts grow on bushes and you sleep out every night,
Where the boxcars are all empty and the sun shines every day on the birds and the bees and the nicorette trees...

Given the opportunity, I would put the perpetrator of this atrocity in the exact same circle of hell as Robert Downey, Sr.

I know I'm missing the point but...Robert Downey, Sr. isn't dead.

Cigarettes, Dr. Pepper and Hot Cheetos?

A deals a deal. Perhaps he should have signed the multiple voter registration forms like the nice people from ACORN asked him to, hmm?

But isn't it wonderful that his son has (finally) come out on the other side of it. I love RDJr.
