The trees that resist the touch of springtime.

You've got to respect them.

Gnarly trees resist spring

They have ways of their own.

Gnarly trees resist spring

They aren't going to prettify themselves just because you think it's the time of year to primp.

Gnarly trees resist spring

There are some old, old attitudes that need to be what they are.

Perhaps it's run down the curtain and gone to join the choir invisible.

Reminiscent of the trees in the movie Sleepy Hollow.

Top photo: Bella Abzugs hair.

2nd photo: If you fed that tree acid daily, it will still live long enough for george's grandchildren to be mulch for it!

3rd photo: Tried out for the part of the Evil Witch's tree in Snow White, but lost when the other tree slept with one of the Nine Old Men.

4th photo: Angered the Althouse fisheye makes it look fat!

Lautreamont :

Man is an oak. Nature contains nothing sturdier. The universe need not arm itself to defend him. A drop of water is not enough to preserve him. Even if the universe were to defend him, he would no more be dishonoured than whatever does not protect him. Man knows that his reign has no death, that the universe boasts a beginning. The universe knows nothing: it is a best a thinking reed.

I thought you were committed to "cruel neutrality"?

This is clearly a pro-McCain post if there ever was one.

Just change the series of photos, and apply the same quotes, and it's all about McCain.

But the oaks can't help their feelings
If they like the way they're made.
And they wonder why the maples
Can't be happy in their shade.
