Much as I love "Cuckoo's Nest," it's got to be Frank Capra's masterpiece, a far less sentimental movie than the popular impression has it. You could get a pretty good drinking game going based on how many times somebody angrily says to somebody else, "What's wrong with you?" or words to that effect.
I'm surprised you haven't mentioned Some Kind of Monster before. Seems long overdue.

Dragging "It's a Wonderful Life" into the world of politics and banking for a second... I recall some interesting discussion a few years ago after the big "savings and loan debacle"... that George Bailey would (and perhaps should) be jailed these days under our current laws and regulations. Watching the movie with that in the back of your mind really changes the experience.
Well, of course, you could have just watched Christmas Eve.
(And, yeah, I could have just gone for the Amazon or IMDB link--so much more efficient! direct! targeted!--but I liked the grouping to which I linked.
So it goes.)
Interesting selection. I would have gone with Cuckoo's Nest as well, given the choices.
We also went for a "dysfunctional Christmas" movie, The Lion In Winter. I had not seen it in years, and did not realize that Timothy Dalton played King Phillip of France, who was either gay or the victim of child abuse at the hands of Richard the Lionhearted (son of Henry and Eleanor, played by Anthony Hopkins). That's a bonus, on top of Peter O'Toole and Kate H., of course.
