Terrified?

We were talking about how Roberts looked terrified throughout the hearings yesterday. Didn't sound terrified, just looked it. Something about those eyes.

I don't think he's nervous. I think he wears contact lenses.

- eyes of steel, reflecting supreme, no pun intended, confidence in his abilitites. Such eyes on other men would be regarded as dangerous.

Limbaugh mentioned this picture yesterday and posted it on his site as a hilarious example of how the media would like to portray the hearings. Just an extreme close-up.

If this is an accidental capture of one of those 'micro-expressions' that are supposed to reveal mood, and he's both that frightened and managing to sound that calm and maintain his equanimity that well, he's a helluva man.

Or many he just saw the little boy starting to pick his nose and thought "Oh, God, no, now that's going to be on the news tonight."

I think you could do a closeup like that of just about anyone who is intently paying attention to something, and it would come out like that. The picture is absurd in that it doesn't include the context (i.e. the rest of his face).

So then, I'm the only one who thinks he looks like Bruce Banner right before hulking up?

The picture is one (1) frame from video. It's not hard to find an unattractive frame especially a close-up.
Roberts act is so together, it's not even funny. He sat there with no help, just a couple of notes and took on all those mighty Senators with their ample staffs.
These Democrat Senators are now firmly esconced in the Blow-Hard Hall of Fame.

What an education. This is probably off topic but I have been listening to the hearings on NPR and I’m learning allot. Terms like stare-decisis that I have heard but did not know what it meant. The explanations of how the courts come to a decision are great. The judicial branch is the one that is out of view. The only time they come into view is when someone gets upset with a decision. And I enjoy the analysis from the Prof.

To paraphrase Wellington, I don't know about their effect on Roberts, but by God the overall performance by the Judiciary Committee terrifies the hell out of me. Has the Senate always been this insipid, and I'm referring to both sides of the aisle?

Going back to my original comment. I really do think that Roberts' eyes look the way they do not because of the pic being a still from a video shot, but because he's contact lens-wearer. I've known countless people over the years on whom contact lenses seem to have the same--and often, spooky--effect. Anybody ever seen the owner of Blinds Direct? He may be a perfectly wonderful fellow and we've used his product, but the guy's eyes--also caused, I'm sure, by contact lenses--are almost haunting.
