Something has gone seriously awry.... with our Birkenstocks.

They've brought in Heidi Klum. And this is the result.

Heidi seems to belong to the Tana School of Fashion Design.

UPDATE: That first shoe -- that "lace-up half boot with striking animal motifs" -- costs $600!

That first shoe...think of the attention you'd get if you taught in those!

so...how many pairs are you getting?

But they are still Birkenstocks! Why don't I just glue fake jewels on my Danskos?

Actually, back in the 80s, I did wear purple lace-up half boots!

Isn't it times like this that you wish you had a bedazzler?

Clearly a concept ahead of its time!

"new styles that are both subtle and beguiling"

...subtle????

shoo. I think Heidi *definitely* broke out the bedazzler for these.

She went all Tana on them.

I checked Manolo to see if he'd opined on these things. He usually sticks to saying what's pretty and ignores the horrendous.

Over $600 for some canvas hightops with lions and spiders painted on them?! Lions and spiders and Keds, oh my!

Freeman Hunt: Maybe they're Chuck Taylors! Painted, bedazzled, Chucks! For $600!

Clearly, we are in the wrong line of work!

C'mon, Ann, get someone to make you up a pair...and then teach with 'em!

That "striking animal motif" makes me want to strike animals all right -- with a bat.

$600 for ugly crap -- I love the rich and the heavily indebted nouveua riche!

make that "nouveau" or nouveaux...

I like Birks as much as the next Madisonian, but speaking from a male point of view, its never a mistake to add Heidi Klum to anything!

Maybe I'll buy a pair if Heidi delivers them to my door personally...wearing only the kicks.

Nothing less is acceptable!
