The good news from Afghanistan.

Arthur Chrenkoff has a roundup of good news from Afghanistan and concludes:
The worst disservice that the international media can do to Asia's newest democracy is to accentuate the negative and thus convince everyone that Afghanistan is a hopeless basket case that's not worth our efforts. The long-suffering people of Afghanistan deserve better than that.

The thing that is always amazing about Chrenkoff's posts is how different the reality is in both Afghanistan and Iraq and what is portrayed in the MSM.

Here, for example, we learn that we, along with the other countries helping us, have almost totally irradicated polio in Afganistan in the 3 1/2 years since we ousted the Taliban.

In this country, I suspect that the reconstruction is a lot tougher than finally ending the Taliban inspired insurgency. The later seems to be fizzling, with commanders either laying down their arms to run for political office, or being captured. But this is one of the poorest countries in the world, and there is so much to do - including bringing its health care system up to even the levels of many other developing nations.

One of the reasons why Afghanistan is such a success is because of the Iraq war. If it wasn't for Iraq, all the arab jihadists would be fighting us in Afghanistan (as they did the Russians). It would be a much more difficult fight there mostly because the Iraqi government (being more wealthy and full of Shias and Kurds) is a much better ally and would put up a much better fight against the terrorists than afghans. (Also its easier (for us) to fight in deserts and cities than in the Mountains of Afghanistan).
