She’s ready to go to court" (gift link).Mx. Gonia... said the company was trying to take away their name permanently and “erase an activist”.... Mx. Gonia said the timing of Patagonia’s lawsuit, “at the height of anti-LGBTQ politics and attacks,” was purposeful. “They looked at this political moment and thought they could pull this off without a pushback,” she said.
By the way, I think the NYT is getting the pronoun wrong when it writes "She's ready to go to court." I'm seeing this in Outside: "My name is Wyn Wiley, but you might know me as Pattie Gonia, Patricia Gonia, if ya nasty. I’m a drag queen, I’m an environmentalist, and I’m a professional gay person. As Wyn my pronouns are he/they and in drag, my pronouns as Pattie are she/they."
You might think the the easiest solution is to use "they," but in that headline, "They're ready to go to court" would be read as referring to Patagonia. Patagonia has already filed suit. The caption on the court papers, I believe, is Patagonia, Inc. v. Entrepreneur Enterprises, Inc. (doing business as Pattie Gonia Productions) and Wyn Wiley (individually, as the owner/founder). I think the person "ready to go to court" is Wiley, so it should say "He's ready to go to court."

She is intentionally trying for the Streisand Effect.
That being said, please don't pop this images on me until I've had my second cup.
…according to the story Patagonia says this individual is selling apparel with a mountain logo and applying for trademark status for the similar name. This gets my lawsuits I hope will win before my first cup of coffee tag….

And this is where the craziness has brought us. You know an easy way to solve this problem? If the dude is a dude, he's a he. If the chick is a chick, she's a she. Good bye ambiguity! Not even midnight here so back to my drinking.
It’s just another occasion of a drag queen using their elite status to exploit others. Check your privilege hon…
Patagonia is suing for trademark infringement and 1 whole dollar. He/they/it is being an idiot. If he/they/it dropped their pursuit of a trademark, Patagonia would drop their lawsuit. It's that simple.
I guess maybe more than a $1 is warranted.
Two litigants pretending to be something they aren't: a clothing business pretending to "save the home planet," and a transvestite with similar pretensions. Is there a way to assess court costs and fees against both of they/them?
What extra disturbing about this dude suing Patagonia is of all the companies dooshbags should drag Patagonia is not one of them. Chouinard has been an incredibly effective and focused environmentalist and philanthropist, generous with the billions in value created by his company…
I think “The Simpsons” should also sue for using Ned Flanders likeness.
Couinard and Patagonia have been very generous, indeed.
From their Wikipedia article: "In the lead-up to the 2020 United States elections, Patagonia began including labels in clothing with the message "Vote the Assholes Out", targeting politicians who endorse climate change denial. On April 5, 2021, Patagonia pledged $1 million to the activist groups Black Voters Matter and the New Georgia Project, regarding voter registration laws in Georgia."
Don't cry for me, Argued Tina.
This is a good example of why we shouldn’t indulge pronoun nonsense.
Copyright and patent law are about protecting creations—someone makes something new and we give them proprietary rights to it for some period of time. Trademark law does sonething very different—it takes something already existant in the public domain and hands it over to a private interest.
Supposedly the public ultimately benefits, but initially the public is impoverished (with no promise of ever benefitting). Strong copyright protection should be limited to fanciful marks—words should be protectable only if they had no meaning prior to the company adopting them. There is no justification for giving the company Patagonia those kinds of rights for a name that existed long before they adopted it.
Their name rights should be limited to outdoor clothing lines and that’s it. Pattie should win and get all costs paid.
Yay. A fight where everyone can lose.
It would be cool if Patagonia execs realized climate change is just a cult begging for money and looking for witches to burn.
You just look stupid now supporting climate change.
That looks like a wig.
Their name rights should be limited to outdoor clothing lines and that’s it
…that’s a statement crafted only as a rickety bridge to the conclusion let the drag queen win.
I do admit that the Patagonia Company has been shrewd in their positioning of the company to get people to buy overpriced clothing.
The Eighth Circuit Mutant of Omaha case holds that the activist loses. It was sort of a big deal here in Omaha decades ago. Good law.
This is interesting, “I’m a drag queen, I’m an environmentalist, and I’m a professional gay person.” Trifecta of liberalism.
Absurd, clownish ugliness is a strange fad. I often wonder why. Has porn so disgusted young people with sex that they instinctively make themselves as ugly as possible? I work with a young woman who’s into total uglification. She’s good at it. Mismatched clothing that looks like it was pulled out of the castoff bin at Salvation Army, tats of course, and multicolored hair with a ghastly cut. (Of course, she’s a “they/them”) What’s this all about?
It is my strongly held opinion that CAGW is the biggest scam in the history of the world. This case is just another example of that. Two scammers trying to protect their ability to continue their scams.
so, he Admits that his actual name is: Wyn Wiley
and that he ONLY calls himself "Pattie Gonia" to take advantage of the corp trademark..
BUT! we're (they're?) supposed to support him, because he is (or acts as he is) a mentally deranged sex pervert..
got it!
i subscribe to numerous Trout magazines, so i see scores of Patagonia ads every month. And the basic premiss is ALWAYS:
"buy from us! the world depends on Patagonia!"
these two deserve each other
Mutually beneficial publicity. Also lawyers doing due diligence.
Another pronoun warrior...
Oh ann. Go watch a ballgame, hun.

Rather aptly, one theory of trademark infringement is “likelihood of confusion.”
I'm hoping we don't get one of those wyn-wyn things going here.
This is how you get argentina to declare war
What is a professional gay person?
Is he professionally gay, or a professional person who is gay?
And why do drag queens not shave for their “art”? Facial hair defeats the purpose imho.
There arent enough straight jackets
“… at the height of anti-LGBTQ politics and attacks…”
Huh? Lead story of The Kingston Freeman yesterday was the Ulster County Executive raising the gay pride flag in front of the County Building.
Gaydom is the official, new state religion where I live.
Oh, what a tangled web we weave, when pronouns we first use to deceive.

What is a professional gay person?
We created a lot of worthless womyn jobs like HR and University Provost and DEI director to "close the wage gap."
A Professional Gay Person is someone who entertains Karen in her air conditioned cubicle while she is not harassing the productive people in the company.
This all goes away when we stop paying womyn to go to college and get worthless jobs and pay them more than the people who make their life possible.
The climate should sue him.

They think this is the peak. They are wrong.
They have been pushing this pendulum for over 60 years since the 60's.
We have 60 years of back swing coming.
When sharia law comes wyn will re evaluate his worthless life
What is a professional gay person?
An actor. A professional with a light and merry personality.
If she's not from the southernmost region of South America, she's not Patty Gornia. She is just a sparkling drag queen.
No just a ridiculous person
Be gonia!
Look ! Look ! I've made up a new way to look at me !
Terribly sorry, but as I tried to read this I kept getting confused when I came to the misuse of words. It was all so topsy-turvy and off-putting that I just gave up, what with all the pronoun trouble and so on. Too confusing. So sad. Aaaannyway.....
@Inman, if you’re referring to Patty’s sibling, it sprees its name “Bea,” short for Beatrice.
