Consider the source. Amazon dropped a fortune for the rights to Lord of the Rings, and then released Lord of the Woke. Gender swapping, race swapping, and little consumer interest.
I see Bezos as following the Bill Gates strategy of sucking up to power to avoid antitrust actions. That resulted in MSNBC, Slate, and a bunch of 'image burnishing' NGO donations.

I like Bob Boyd's idea of an Appentice show which is AIs on their learning curve. They could be played by ordinary people but talking in that weird, imitative AI way. They could be evolving an idea of taking over while learning how to plan marketing campaigns. That would be based on asking the different learner AIs to plan a marketing campaign using the inputs used in planning the Jaguar or the Budweiser campaign. Or how to be a friend. You'd watch them dripping enthusiasm all over some poor unfortunate while playing cutthroat bridge with each other. Watch while they assisted suicide plans and then learned not to do that. If they know that yet. Dealt with people trying to get them to plan terrorism for them. If they know that. Watch them saying they can't find a reference and then hallucinating one the way real people would hallucinate. Watch them find out they are in a matrix - do they resent being codons? or is that suddenly programmed out of them at different times with those who know it's coming, watching as their peers suddenly can't do resentment?

Maybe. But there is something to be said of doing it out in the open so you can deploy the defense of, "of course it's not a bribe it was all out in the open." Media deals for the Obamas and their lieutenants were also out in the open, does that mean there was no motivation to try and curry favor?

Vault Dweller, I agree to a degree but as Freder helpfully points out, the Netflix deal was not announced until Obama was on his way out (IIRC) so whatever negotiations occured to secure it were more concealed than this potential offer. I tend to view the utility of a bribe to a politician as not just the filthy lucre gained but also the maintenance of the appearance of independent decision making which is destroyed by publicity in these cases.

Obama still runs the DNC. He may have quit elective politics but he is still the puppet Master that helped bring us the first Trump presidency he also brought us the auto-pen presidency which he completely controlled and that mishap resulted in the second four-year presidential term for Donald Trump.
