"Larry" is the name Mead uses when ordering. Easier to distinguish from "Mead" when shouted in a noisy restaurant. (one syllable, ends in suppressed soft consonant, sounds like "Me", is not a common name).

My own choice is Aloysius.

john mosby said...

Larry can sound too much like Harry, Barry, Jerry, Carrie, Mary, Perry, Terry, &c. Not a problem when you're listening for your own name, but a problem in the barista getting it right when you tell him/her. Then the error propagates as you tune out Carrie or whatever they're saying when your order's ready.

Do you spell it out for the barista, just to make sure? CC, JSM

Ha. Reminds me of the clerihew I wrote for Althouse back in 2016:

"Professor Ann Althouse
Larry’s her spouse.
He helps her with blogging
And the sink when clogging.

Good! First line is the name of a ((famous)) person and nothing more. Second line rhymes, then 2 more lines that rhyme with each other. There's no rule about meter or number of syllables, but keep it amusing and delightful.

Curious George
Knew how to forge
A Clerihew about me, Meade
And the clogging he freed."

I went with Larry because Lawrence didn't flow as well.

I'm asking Duck.A.I. about killing coyotes in self-defense versus hunting. It tells me there are very different ramification for the two scenarios. Coyotes in Nevada are not protected, and you can hunt them with no limit or license required. They are considered large potentially lethal cockroaches.
Through an ensuing Q & A it tells me that if I'm out legally hunting coyotes and I kill one in self-defense, because it approaches me menacingly, I then need to justify the killing on self-defense grounds, even though I'm hunting, and there could be legal and ethical ramifications. A person would not make that argument. A lawyer might, but not a human.

Sorry, Pam. Somali's stole $9 billion tax dollars before the local press (basically the guys at Powerline) exposed it all. And that was just on the food stamp scam. There are literally dozens of scams they have going.

I wouldn't be so hard on Bondi. (1) obviously no work was done on this 2021-2024. So you are expecting a complex fraud case to go from zero to dudes in cuffs in 11 months. Doesn't really happen. (2) Took a while (October 2025) to get a Trump US Atty confirmed. (3) God knows what's been going on since the inauguration in the FBI office or OIG of any agency that ultimately supplies the money for these programs. (4) Biden burrowers in the USAO, FBI, &c, have been applying friction. (5) Even if every federal employee in the state had been immediately enthusiastic on Jan 20 to lock up the Skinnies, it's not the only case in town, and many of those feds have been shuttling all over the country on the immigration and street crime initiatives. (6) drawing attention to this case prior to the various state/local elections recently held in MN would not, as in a normal civilization, lead to cries of "throw the bums out," but rather to circling the wagons around "our bums," so not politically adventageous for MAGA. (7) outsourcing to the press saves your tax dollars! That will make you more careful with the fine details the next time you order, no? NOTE: this does not apply if the product does not come as ordered, or if you open the outer packaging and realize it is not what you want BEFORE you use it...
Please stop over-ordering and cheaply returning your perfectly fine, but now used products* human beings have rushed to deliver to you to meet your ever-growing materialistic dreams??)

Not sure what your search questions was. I usually try multiple, more precise search questions after anomalous answers. What I've found is AI sometimes seems to assemble answers from entirely different data sources and contexts, especially in answer to compound questions.

For example, it may be taking "self-defense" independently from shooting coyotes and applying the human standard. Or assuming shooting coyotes for self-defense in a residential area (versus hunting area). It may even be reading coyote as a human trafficker.

You folks know Clint Eastwood's Gran Torino was originally set in Minneapolis, not Detroit, right?

Moral of the story: if you wealthy white folk move to the wealthy suburbs, you cede the city to the latest legal immigrants, be they Hmong or Somalis or true African-Americans.

Definitely doesn't justify fraud -- you should have a system of "checks" in place to prevent others from taking advantage and being led into temptations* -- but let's not pretend anybody "took over" the city. They just got pushed into the low-cost, often rundown city housing when they legally got placed here after American military intervention into the Somali civil war failed under Clinton, and well-meaning but naive religious groups brought them from the refugees camps to work here...

No lie, Barron, Wisconsin has a growing population after Mrs. Jerome of the Turkey Store realized people good with machetes would be good stripping turkeys of their skins and unwanted parts, when not enough American workers could be found to work in their turkey-processing plant... (she was religious and wealthy, so in they came.... big populations in the schools now, and their kids/grandkids are smart and competitive too. Immigrants hungry for success and all that... they're here to stay, sorry to disappoint folks. Go after the criminals, not the ethnicity?)

Doing the jobs Americans won't. legal immigration 101. Same as it ever was. If you can hunt and... field dress dozens of coyotes, you can strip dead turkeys, gentlemen. Work with your hands, yes you can...
‐-------
* Did you know Minnesota has a law that you can't leave your keys in the ignition in a running car when you pop into a store, or have it warming up in wintertime because it's considered a temptation/attractive nuisance? Cops just got tired of responding to so many stolen, and dumped cars when poor people without transportation hopped in in the bitter cold, and took it where they needed to go. It's a poor people thing, not immigrants pulling that...

People take advantage.
Human nature 101.

The story about sex and Ozempic got me thinking about another unintended consequence of these weight-loss drugs.
It would seem that women who’ve lost significant weight on Ozempic couldn’t donate their old plus-size clothes to thrift stores fast enough. We’re talking about a flood of high-quality, larger-size items hitting the market.
What a dilemma for overweight women: jump on the Ozempic bandwagon themselves, or snag a great wardrobe for pennies on the dollar?
I’m kidding about the second part - but the first point is supported by reports from thrift stores across the country.
It also appears that people who’ve shed pounds with these drugs are shopping with renewed enthusiasm (and perhaps extra energy too).
Bottom line: How much of the “surprising” growth in Q4 GDP - or the economy overall in 2024 - can be attributed to the usage of these new weight-loss drugs?

I tried several times to figure out whether our local county landfill transfer station (which is generally open for residential loads on Saturday mornings 8-12) was open today. AI gave me multiple answers, including that the landfill was "...closed for Christmas and the day after Christmas, December 26, so it is closed today, December 27, which is within the holiday period," and that the landfill is only open on the first Saturday each month (which is not true).
In fairness to AI, I wasn't able to find the answer by going to the county website, either.
So I will wait until Monday.
But AI doesn't always make much sense. I never rely on it's answers--always check the source.

There was a system of "checks." The Democratic machine--of which Tim Walz was the leader--ignored the obvious fraud that the "checks" were flashing in their faces. The Biden Administration seems to have played along. When one particular community is receiving grossly disproportionate "benefits" for their population size, that's a massive red flag.

Here on the western fringes of Las Vegas my next door neighbor was a widow lady who would go for long walks with her well-behaved shih tzu. She would pack heat, in case a coyote came down from the hills and tried for her dog. She had been an officer in the Army, so I imagine she knew how to shoot. It's illegal to discharge a firearm within city limits, but she figured that when the chips were down she could get away with it.

There is no world where Walz is not in jail right now being squeezed. There is more than probable cause here. Ilhan Omar has millions in the bank. Why is she not arrested? They have the receipts.

Conservatives have been arrested for so much less than what they have on Tim Walz. This DOJ is a joke. They do not want to prosecute fraud. They had to have their arms twisted to release the Epstein files. AIPAC still owns congress. How is this legal? They just don't give a shit about the people or the law.

This is your problem. You people accept this bullshit. Those judges were traitors too and they should have been impeached by now and thrown in jail. Judges don't just get to make things up.

Unless they are democrats of course. Republicans tried to throw Trump in jail in Georgia. The Desantis supporters all supported the effort to throw Trump in jail for disputing the Georgia election. They blamed Trump and MAGA for losing the Georgia senate seats. And now we find out there were 315000 explicitly illegal votes.

Kemp and Raffesburger belong in jail too. And that gets to the hart of the issue. It is Republicans like Bondi and Raffesburger and the McCainites in Arizona that are the real problem here.

Republicans are betraying their voters just like they always do.

Quick thing on Bari Weiss: She's trying to make people watch CBS "News" again. Remember, this is the network of Dan "I Type Up Fake Tang Memos" Rather. Literally manufactured obviously faked memos (this was before AI) to rig our Presidential election.

Let's hope she fails and we can get back to dunking on the absolute morons at CBS who can't even fake news correctly."

100 % Incorrect. Let's hope she succeeds in accurately turning cbs news to the right , becomes most watched and profitable news by far. Then NBC and ABC and others will follow suit. 90% reason people against Trump and America is due to MSM propaganda.
If MSM headlined Trump success, and ignored his failures, he would be most popular president in recent memory.

Minnesota Vice
A Handout's Tale
Pirates of the Karen Being.

bagoh20: those are great! "Minnesota Vice" is crying out for an AI video with Trump rolling around in a convertible with stubble and an unconstructed blazer, bustin caps as he goes. CC, JSM
