Said Judi Jupiter, quoted in "Judi Jupiter, a 76-Year-Old Social Media Star, Is Gen Z at Heart/In the 1970s, she photographed Andy Warhol and Debbie Harry on wild nights at Studio 54. Now she’s chronicling a new generation" (NYT)(that's a gift link, because there are a lot of photos).
And here's her Instagram, so you can check out the videography.
That one quote really struck me: "I don’t read the newspaper or follow the news. I cry when I read the news, so why would I?" It's a good question. You do not have to read the news. You can abstain.
And by the way, you don't have to answer when people prod you to reveal your politics. Here's Gene Simmons to tell you that:

Boomers pulled the economic ladder up behind them.
They will be upset when the results set in.
"I’m still 24 in my head"
Cut. Print. Wrap.
If you are an adult, you can read the news (and make judgments as to whether it is "fake news") without crying. Compared to the darkest days of World War II we are not living in particularly trying times. The 76 year old Judi Jupiter needs to grow up.
Counterpoint: Is it really a surprise that a former Studio 54 photographer only wants to take pictures of thin people in their early 20s? Not long ago, the NY Times would have found this problematic. I guess it's okay if you buy her claim that it's not because younger people are more attractive (and therefore will generate more likes and clicks), but because they're actually morally superior.
I’m still 24 in my head, so they’re my people.
If a 76-year-old man said that, it'd be "creepy."
Hon, they're laughing behind your back.
The Gen Z’s only like talking to people their own age, and since they can tell I’m like them, they talk to me. If someone looks over 30, I don’t even interview them
Sounds like you're not very much like them.
"I’d once made a fortune, but I was always broke by Monday,” Jupiter said. “I’ve been rich and I’ve been poor, even homeless. I was always lousy with money. My friends say I have an impulse control problem.”
Yeah. Quite.
Love the picture of Christopher Reeves. Knowing when to use B/W is an art.
"What a drag it is getting old."
"They think the world is in a bad place and that we’ve got to make it better... That’s their thing. They’re into making things better."
But many of them seem to be attracted to "solutions" that are proven failures. They vote for communists the one system that has proven to make things much worse every time it is tried.
And by the way, you don't have to answer when people prod you to reveal your politics.
That doesn't work with the "Silence is Consent" fanatics.
Some age like Dench.
Some like Jupiter.
Some with grace.
Others like a giraffe trying to tap dance in a broom closet.

These people and this attitude have dominated our culture for 60 years.
"They’re into making things better."
One thing I have learned from a casual study of world history, is that there have ALWAYS been people trying to make things better. In every era, in every culture - someone took notice and tried to change things.
Like myself and Ann, she seems to be into the iPhone camera. I try to avoid using its wealth of editing features except for cropping, which can improve composition.
"They vote for communists the one system that has proven to make things much worse every time it is tried."
Shhh. You'll make them cry.
What happens to a person who relies on emotion to make their life choices, and avoids learning anything that's not happy news? I suppose some could get lucky, especially with help from friends, relatives, and lovers, but when that runs out or fails, you end up homeless. That's what happened to me before I wised up. I was ahead of my time, I was a Gen-Z in the 70s too.

Most Americans don’t but it’s a useful reminder for those who do. I know many who don’t and their mental health always seems far superior to those who spin themselves up every day.
I'm young at heart, and empathize with your causes, won't you play with me, too.

Daily I grow more convinced that dominance was prefabricated and their success manufactured. In hindsight it looks organic as a circuit board to my generation.
When a (very) senior citizen choose to go by a name that would belittle an obscure Saturday-morning cartoon character, one can be sure her opinions are as weighty as an obscure Saturday-morning character.
Come off it, Judi Evans Luciano; it's bad enough that you're a Judi.
Young people need to learn quickly that most older people exploit them. I cringe when I hear them repeat the latest talking point or new thing. I always ask them: Who is making money off this? BLM: Covid; Elections; Climate Change?
Wake up kids. You weren’t lucky like those of us whose grandparents grew up during the Depression. First question they taught their grandkids to ask. Who is making money off this?
Doris Day got it right: Que Sera Sera.
I sympathize with Gen-S, empathize with Gen-E, and loathe Gen-L.
One of the more interesting aspects of Gen Z politics is that it is the most conservative generation in a long time.
Another is that men and women in Gen Z are more politically split than any other generation.
The fun takedowns have been when men confront the covert feminists that pretend to be conservative family values while being in their 30’s with no kids.
She probably means the Millennials. They were the ones going through our trash for recyclables and worrying about microaggressions and White Supremacy. They were supposed to be our saviors. Are Gen Z going to be our saviors now? Or are they Gen X burnouts redux?
"The fun takedowns have been when men confront the covert feminists that pretend to be conservative family values while being in their 30’s with no kids."
"Who is making money off this?" indeed.
“I’d go through 10 friends a day in my teens, burning them out, then picking up a new one. I was always bored growing up.”
She sounds horrible.
I'm not a big fan of Gene Simmons, who is a monstrous man whore, but I thought what he said about his wife at the end was pretty damned romantic 🤔.
GenZ are young, agile, flexible and full of life. That's the main problem people have with them.
"They think the world is in a bad place and that we’ve got to make it better. That’s their thing. They’re into making things better."
The last people I'd look to for that are people with pretty much no real life experience, which is what most 24-year-olds have (or don't have, depending on how you look at it).
The young all want to "make a difference", but that never seems to mean getting a job doing something productive. Rather, they all want a position with an NGO that pays six figures and involves attending seminars in vacation spots around the world.
The generation that never grew up, and imagines this as evidence of virtue in themselves. Can't wait 'til you're gone, boomers.
Love of making things better is democrats, and their women generally. The right is concerned with perverse consequences, hence stability.
I'm very wary of anyone who manifestly says "I want to make the world a better place" in the same way I knew Google's Don't Be Evil campaign was unambiguous code for "We Intend To Be As Evil As Your Naïveté Will Allow".
Cue the Cat Stevens music....."Oh, very young, what will you leave us this time?.."
The whole story has a 'Harold and Maude' vibe to it, only more contrived...

The goal is rarely better.
The goal is almost always more comfortable.
The important question is not "Who is making money off this?"
It's "How can I make money off this?
What the hell do I care if someone is making money. I hope everybody is. Your job is to decide if the product it's worth having for you. Maybe I want what you think none of us need. Snake oil saved my life.
I'm not a big fan of Gene Simmons, who is a monstrous man whore
You’ll love him a lot more if you dial up his NPR Fresh Air interview with Terry Gross.
One thing I have learned from a casual study of world history, is that there have ALWAYS been people trying to make things better. In every era, in every culture - someone took notice and tried to change things.
Also, the "i and my generation know better than all the rest of you" is universal for people in their mid-20's, nothing at all unique to Gen Z.
"If you're willing to walk among us unvaccinated, you are an enemy". - Gene Simmons
Fuck Gene Simmons.
The young all want to "make a difference", but that never seems to mean getting a job doing something productive.
Everybody wants to Save the World.
Nobody wants to help Mom wash the dishes.
What a sad, empty life devoid of anything meaningful. But I hope she enjoyed it.
