The moon had a way to go. It did not set until 9:39 — more than 3 hours after these photos. You're seeing the moon at 97.9% illumination — a waning gibbous moon.
Why do the airlines not get together and find a way to pay TSA so their customers can continue to fly? It will cost some money, but not nearly as much as having to delay and cancel flights due to passengers not getting screened (I think). They could structure it as an interest free loan that the TSA people would pay back when they get their retroactive pay when things are settled.
I can’t figure out the play on these FAA flight cancellations. Who is the White House trying to pressure. And who do they think people are gonna get mad at when Thanksgiving goes pear shaped?
Thanksgiving is still a few weeks away, kak. You people still have some time to murder additional people and do what you’ve been doing for decades, i.e., doing your best to destroy America.
It's pretty entertaining listening to NPR right now, one horror story after another on the terrible impacts the closed government is having. Now it's the 10% reduction in flights, in the name of safety. I think people don't recognize the commitment to safety that underpins aeronautics and the airline industry. It was recognized early on that too many things can go wrong in the air that lead to death - safety culture and process controls are what keep air travel reasonably safe. The FAA cutting back on flights is just another case of honoring process safety, nothing more.
Meanwhile the progressive media continues howling, but somehow forgets to mention that Continuing Resolutions are a 90-day temporary measure with one purpose: Opening the Federal Government for business so that it can do what it's elected to do. Funny, that. Funny how the minority party keeps voting against opening government, yet complains the loudest and has the most examples of who is being unfairly affected.
Aggie, it has been a pleasant relief to have none of the NPR news interruptions on our classical station. The station people have not said one word about its absence. But it takes away a source of irritation at their biased presentations, often by young women who sounded about 13. Or the elaborately foreign pronunciations of simple Spanish names. Good riddance and I am sure my lifespan is extended at least a little by not having to hear their future catastrophe of the day cornpone.
Last days in the mid-Atlantic to enjoy the last remnants of summer still hanging from the trees. One good wind and we will be in November. Where all peoples with sense know to rage, rage against the dying of the light. (Wine and martinis help with the raging angle.)
Chuck can't help but revel. He thinks an ironic tone might cover his axx. But he doesn't really want it covered. Laissez les bon temps roulez, Chuckie Cheese!
"Lairmore also testified that he received gag gifts from fellow officers after the ordeal: a sandwich plushie toy and a patch that said “Felony Footlong.”

Do you have a cite for that? I see that he testified his mates treated it as a joke. But that would add, rather than detract, from the offensive nature of the contact. "You threw a sandwich on me and now I'm Mr Sandwich Guy for the rest of my career!" Lots of crime victims get ridiculed.
Even if the agent himself made jokes about it later, that's a time-tested method of decompression and recuperation from critical incidents. And it has very little probative value as to anyone's state of mind during the incident. CC, JSM
Mosby bloviates again and again about this case, can't be bothered to read the details.
He put the patch on his lunchbox permanently. Not the actions of someone struggling with assault, keeping the sandwich plushie in his cube too.
Total snowflake. When law enforcement talks about the danger of their jobs, this is what they will have to answer to. I am sure that profession is thrilled with this doofus' overreaction.
Simple hypo: suppose the Border Patrol guys had been faster, and grabbed the thrower’s arm when he cocked it, to prevent the throw? Would that have been a crime?
No, because it would be self defense/defense of others. From offensive contact.
The guy who threw the sandwich at the federal officer was drunk, this is widely reported and videos show him stumbling and slurring words. So a sloppy drunk has an altercation with a fed and walks away, good deal for dc, very admirable for a drunk asshole to be the hero of the town.

For some reason, I kept being reminded of Joe Biden’s speeches while president.

It’s domestic abuse on a national scale. Fear us, do as we say, or we will hurt you.

Gas prices are back up over $3/gallon too...

That is the Democrats' game plan. I'm shocked to see you say something honest.

Turns out the jury agreed.
"Lairmore also testified that he received gag gifts from fellow officers after the ordeal: a sandwich plushie toy and a patch that said “Felony Footlong.”
Traumatized by the experience, clearly.
🔝That was an entertaining but colossal waste of taxpayer money.

I see. So assault's OK if the recipient has the right attitude about it.
I'll keep that in mind.
