"Get out, drink more, and make a series of bad decisions that might pay off."

Earlier in that "Real Time" interview, not on that clip, Scott Galloway said, "We've unwittingly built an economy dependent on our ability to evolve a new species of asocial, asexual men. And what you have is Big Tech is trying to sequester people — especially young people, especially young men — from the most important thing in their life and that is relationships."

AND: Here's the "Overtime" part. Galloway brings out beers for the boys:

This topic reminds me of some thing I've quoted before — from Paul Johnson's "Intellectuals" — about the playwright Henrik Ibsen:
There was one aspect of Ibsen’s vanity which verged on the ludicrous... He had a lifelong passion for medals and orders. In fact, he went to embarrassing lengths to get them... [H]e insisted on displaying his growing galaxy of stars on every possible occasion. As early as 1878 he is reported to have worn all of them, including one like a dog-collar round his neck, at a club dinner. The Swedish painter Georg Pauli came across Ibsen sporting his medals (not the ribbons alone but the actual stars) in a Rome street. At times he seems to have put them on virtually every evening. He defended his practice by saying that, in the presence of ‘younger friends’, it ‘reminds me that I need to keep within certain limits.’ All the same, people who had invited him to dinner were always relieved when he arrived without them, as they attracted smiles and even open laughter as the wine circulated....

That made me say: "[F]reedom and democracy depend on our disinhibition; we need to be able to laugh at authority." And: "Without the disinhibiting substance, Ibsen would have got away with his stupid pomposity."

That was about the reaction to authority figures. Galloway was talking about men's reaction to women.

Galloway was also on Morning Joe a few weeks ago. I don't know what to make of him getting airplay. Is the national mood really turning? Or is the MSM just using him as a pressure-release valve so they can claim balance? CC, JSM

Weirdly, Tucker Carlson covers a lot of these same issues. He likes to mention how being married and having kids reduces your testosterone, which makes you a less dangerous man. CC, JSM

If his premise is that drinking more will help folks take more social risks because the alcohol will make them ignore the risks, the other way to accomplish that is to reduce the risks too. Modify workplace discrimination laws. Reduce or get rid of completely hostile workplace laws. People shouldn't be able to sue their employer because they are uncomfortable with what other people say. Keep the actual discrimination protections, but get rid of the schoolmarm legal oversight. It makes sense that different work environements would have different cultures, and courts are bad at this sort of social-etiquette enforcement to begin with. The only thing people should have to worry about for getting fired at work is if they personally do a bad job, piss off their boss, or the company itself does poorly.

We are all silly monkeys, when you come right down to it. I encourage you to read Paul Johnson's Intellectuals if you have any doubts on the matter. As illuminating a book as I have ever read. God bless Paul Johnson and his truth telling regarding history. Its value can be measured by the degree to which he was hated by all the usual suspects.

I'm going to keep posting this:

The Left hate boys and girls. The left are collective predators - in the name of "diversity"

Feminism destroyed romance. For my entire life, we’ve been telling spoiled brat, fat, over-indulged American women that they have some sort of bitch “just like blacks under Jim Crow.” Not surprisingly, this has turned the spoiled brats into unbearable assholes. Top that off with the awareness that began to set in in the 90s that there was no guaranteed benefit of marriage to men. The law is entirely on the side of women in divorce and child custody law. Your woman is tired of you? The state will support her and your children, and impoverish you to pay for children you never see. The word has really gotten around among men, even young men. The women are mostly not worth a fuck.

Meanwhile, they are arresting young men in Mississippi for "disturbing the peace" for calling out Jews taping on the streets who can't take a joke... Double standard much. ("Here son, drink this, suck it up, and get up and go to work the next morning... you've got a family to support."

The young white men today are determined to break the cycle. Your two boys prefer to bend over and take it, it seems. Feminism mom training. "How much, fellas, to watch me eat an egg-salad sandwich? I'm a single mum w/two sons to support, don't you know??'

Something tells me ann's still not drinking alcohol, despite pushing it as a cure-all for the young people in America today.

Out of 10 neices and nephews, 2 nephews dropped out in college. One had a drug problem in high school, the other an alcohol problem. Fortunately I don't think young people listen to these guys.

I escaped the dilemma. My late wife was a traditional Filipina (naturalized American) who absolutely hated feminism, and hated the entitled asshole feminist American women. Sex every day for 16 years, sometimes twice a day. And, she was pulling down $100k in NYC. There are still a few women out there who love men as they are, not as they are supposed to be.

Kids are inundated from early childhood, way before the hormones that drive us kick in, with scary images and tales associated with sex. Who wouldn't be reluctant to start playing it out. Being potty trained to clean off poop at the same age they are introduced to concepts of anal sex is not propitious. Hearing what all disgusting things are expected of us is scary! He puts his peepee where!?! I am all for sex education, but it seems to come at kids from all directions these days, overwhelming and before they are ready. Just me trying to figure it all out.

He's got a book. But I guess your question is why does this guy with a book get on shows when so many book hawkers don't. He's nice looking, presentable. His book is on a topic that the host can do some back-and-forth about.

I would point out that the young people Lem is chauffeuring around are coming from bars. I suspect they will be all right. It's the ones at home on their devices we need to worry about.

I wonder if people in the Medieval Ages felt that same way about Coffee? Coffee replaced beer as a popular beverage and people gathered to socialize and discuss ideas in coffeehouses. The political debate changed the world and contributed to the spread of modern democracy and the Enlightenment.

Maybe these people are concerned about the lack of boozing because young people's politics are so odious?

What old women you aging Maga loyalist have become. The America I was raised in taught me to grin and bear it, fix problems, not to whine complain and blame others.

That's the coward's way out. You are just like Michelle Obama telling us that we're not ready for a woman and so she can't waste her time trying to be president because it's our fault she will never be elected.

Corona is not beer, it's horse piss that has the nerve to call itself beer! Not in the least surprising that Galloway would truck this stuff out.

Galloway has been making his bones for years, Mosby. He's a self made entrepreneur and Uber popular NYU marketing professor and popular keynote speaker. Just because you didn't notice him years ago doesn't mean he just now magically appeared on the scene to fulfill your conspiracy theory.

To put it another way: Have some fun. Take some risks.

bagoh20 said...

The biggest risk from alcohol is unwanted pregnancy. A terrible mistake for both. Sex: as much as you want it, you really don't.

stunned said...

Drink a little more and go make some mistakes, unless you are mentally ill. Mentally ill cluster b/autistic men and alcohol is a bad, dangerous combination, it disinhibits their already fucked up asshole selves to wreck even more havoc on their already non-existent relationships.

Young men should consider vasectomy. You can still have a family when you are ready.

So, Ibsen's medals were a great ice-breaker at Swedish parties. Can't hold that against him. (My experience with guys of Nordic descent coming of age on the high plains was pretty much that they needed to double whatever level the Irish needed to break down inhibitions. Three times, if dancing was involved.

As a father who lost his son to an alcohol related accident, the idea of drinking and "making bad decisions" is not a good one for society. I’m not an advocate for abstinence from alcohol, but the message that drinking especially to excess is or at least can be good for society (as well as for individuals) is simply dangerous. Maher makes that point early in this clip so kudos to him.
