That's Black Aggie. It was a copy of the Adams Memorial that once stood in a cemetery in Baltimore that was cast after Saint-Gaudens' death. A lot of local legends grew up around the statue; grass would not grow in its shadow, statue would become animated at midnight, etc. It caused such a problem with breaking into the cemetery at night that the family donated to the Smithsonian.
Wikipedia tells me the J. D. in Vance’s name stands for ‘James David’, not ‘Jefferson Davis’, which shows that Kakistocracy is a bit of a coprophagic swine.

You can buy traps that are lids for 5 gallon buckets. They have a little stairway leading to the top of the bucket and a trap door. The nice thing about them is that they can trap many mice over the course of a night. Put water in the bucket if you prefer dead mice. They work REALLY well. I just put a few bread crumbs on the ladder and on the trap door. Havaharts are too finicky in my experience.
House mice must be moved a half mile or so so they at least return to somebody else's house.

I was at the Augustus Saint Gaudens National Historic Park in Cornish NH last week. Really worth the visit. Lots of examples of his sculptures and the grounds are lovely. Not far from the longest covered bridge in New England...you have to walk your horses or the fine is $2.
