"Trump joins a long list of presidents who have left their imprint on the White House. Theodore Roosevelt replaced greenhouses to construct the West Wing."

"William Howard Taft constructed the first Oval Office in 1909. Richard M. Nixon converted a swimming pool into the press briefing room in 1970. The modern East Wing wasn’t even built until World War II to cover up an underground bunker. Harry S. Truman gutted the White House interior and added the balcony that bears his name. Purists decried it. Now it’s a hallmark. The White House cannot simply be a museum to the past. Like America, it must evolve with the times to maintain its greatness. Strong leaders reject calcification. In that way, Trump’s undertaking is a shot across the bow at NIMBYs everywhere."

Writes The Editorial Board of The Washington Post, in "In defense of the White House ballroom Donald Trump vs. the NIMBYs."

And let me just put this here. Some members of the press would like a bigger White House briefing room:

This is what "normalcy" in America should look like.
The President of the United States should be an exceptional person, one of a kind, and engaging. We should never elect a place holder or dimwit again. Can we at least agree upon that?

Trump is taking this too far. Even his press secretary let slip that he is losing sight of what is most important because of his obsession with tearing down the White House. His press secretary actually said, out loud, that "the ballroom is really the president's main priority."

Ooooh. n.n. Just called out Gerda for sending out disinformation. From n.n.’s link:

“A reporter asked press secretary Karoline Leavitt at a Thursday briefing: “In addition to the ballroom and the Rose Garden patio, is the president looking at any other renovations or significant kind of projects here at the White House?”

Leavitt responded: “Not to my knowledge, no. But he’s a builder at heart, clearly. And so his heart and his mind is always churning about how to improve things here on the White House grounds. But at this moment in time, of course, the ballroom is really the president’s main priority.””

Some people get a kick out of reading into stuff but maybe it's just that Trump thinks the White House needs a ballroom.

Mr. D said...

His press secretary actually said, out loud, that "the ballroom is really the president's main priority."

Here's a hint - content from Schumer's account is likely bullshit. And if you go to the link, you have multiple people providing the full content of Leavitt's remarks, which directly contradicts Schumer's assertions.

Beyond that, it should be clear that Trump's top priority is dancing in Malaysia. I'm guessing that will be denounced shortly as cultural appropriation or somesuch as soon as the memo goes out.

His main priority on White House grounds. On the Malaysian tarmac his main priority was dancing. In the briefing room his main priority was to get women in dresses and gentlemen in tuxedos to join him and Melania in dance on the ballroom floor. He's very focused on his main priorities on different grounds with a unifying theme.

The contestants in the Trump Miss Teen America pageant will be impressed.

Prior to the Kennedy assassination and subsequently the moon landing, the planting of the Rose Garden was one of the defining moments of television history and our modern Camelot. Its off hand destruction will be the equivalent of Marie Antoinette’s mechanical sheep and cake for future historians seeking to bring an era to life.

I'm curious about the equally colossal bunker being built underneath. More should be written regarding the expansion of the existing bunker built in 1942 during World War II, under FDR.

The title of the editorial is off; it isn’t Trump vs. NIMBYs, it’s Trump vs. hard core TDS sufferers. If only Trump did the new ballroom in a way that let them derail the project! Because Trump. If Trump came out in favor of oxygen, “sweet, beautiful oxygen,” there are people in this country who would smother their grandkids.

The risk for Dumbocrats and other TDS sufferers is that some day they may have a legitimate reason for opposition to something Trump is doing or proposing doing, and we sane, normal people will write their opposition off as just more TDS. Which becomes ever more tedious.

You want to see bunkers, come to Puerto Rico and visit Roosevelt Roads. In 1940 plans were made to evacuate the British royal family and their govt to PR is the Germans invaded. We have bunkers here that make the submarine pens at St Nazaire look like Home Depot sheds.

This is the powerhouse. That upper roof is 6' thick. The inner roof, below the windows, it 4-5' thick. Walls are 6' thick as well.

https://darkislandpr.blogspot.com/2018/01/roosevelt-roads-powerhouse.html

There were to be 3 pair of 16" guns (NY harbour had only one pair) plus a number of 12, 8 and 5" guns.

our modern Camelot

I certainly hope you were being sarcastic, Kak. "Our modern Camelot," where unbeknownst to the American people, the president was addicted to painkillers, known to the public he was playing chicken with the USSR, the swimming pool was an orgy and a place to arrange more orgies, the First Lady really was blinking four times to indicate she needed rescue, the top intelligence man was a cross dresser* who was collecting dirt on everyone in sight in order to secure his and his organization's power, people were being lynched for expecting the government to protect their natural and civil rights too, some 10,000 bombs were set off by domestic terrorists...

But it was "Camelot." Performative sanctimony, as always. Go watch the musical for what Camelot meant.

Trump should keep a small rectangle of adjacent grass and put some of the previous port-a-potties there. With a rickety tent over them. Add a few folding tables and chairs, and an overhead speaker.

Just like the old East Wing Days.

And when there are the upcoming Big State Dinners, all of the prominent Democrats can be seated there, instead of inside the new ballroom.

Because -- obviously -- it would be hypocritical of them to sit elsewhere.

And we know how Democrats hate to be hypocritical.

Speaking of blue dresses, Epstein had a rather provocative painting of Bill Clinton lounging on a chair with a come hither look in a blue dress with red high heels and nothing else. Pic here

https://news.artnet.com/app/news-upload/2019/08/Petrina-Ryan-Kleid-Parsing-Bill.jpg

It was in the foyer so first thing anyone saw entering Epstein's NYC mansion.

I would love to know the story behind why it was painted, why Epstein bought it and why it hung in the entrance. My guess is to show how completely he owned Bill Clinton but it might be some other explanation.

Bill must a) have been OK with the painting and location or b) had so little suction with Epstein that he could do nothing about it.
