Well, it looks like the war is on in Ukraine right up to the bitter end. Kak and Weevil got their way; Europe and the neocons have won the wrestling match and the arguments seem over. We will see how it works out for the people of Ukraine, and the rest of us, in due season. It turns out that Trump's plan to end the war was always to force Putin to capitulate, rather than to make any kind of mutually beneficial deal on the security architecture of Europe.

Well, it's been non stop war since the fall of the USSR, so why should it stop now? I am sure that we innocently blundered into each and every one of them, and only got involved to help the poor local people who were suffering from a shortage of bombs falling on them.

Today is a bad day for Jaq, since his Russian heroes are losing. Remember, Jaq believed, like many in MAGA, that Ukraine started the war, and for a while they had Trump supporting them. But not anymore. Of course, Trump could change his position in a few days, like he does on almost every other important issue. Stay tuned for more of Trump's Loony Toons. Who knows what is next.

It's not the CDLs being issued to illegls that's the real problem.

It's the fact that many of them come complete with REAL ID certification. Including some with no name on the license... As a legal citizen, you may be aware of what you went through to get one. How did an illegal get one? Whoever issued the license is guilty of fraud.

"...Thousands of bogus CDLs on the roads. ..."

The problem really is, the CDL's aren't bogus, they're all 100% real and legitimate. The only problem is, they were handed out illegitimately to people that are here illegally, and mostly don't know how to drive commercial vehicles. Some don't even understand English, much less read it.

But official systems have audit trails, and although it's going to take a while, if the Feds get involved they'll figure out who has been doing it. Like oil prices, the best thing for high crime rates is the reaction to them. Not holding my breath, though.

The logical position of an organism is to maximize its access to valuable resources. But the realities of DNA reproduction lead to a situation where your DNA can maximize its access to resources by producing organisms that recognize other organisms with very similar DNA, and aid their attempts to obtain resources. Hence, family. And, extended, clan. But this also requires a willingness to pass up access opportunities -- what is called altruism. "Altruistic" behavior makes evolutionary sense, within the context of the family, and the clan.

Jupiter said...

But it appears that the highly developed altruism of the Northern European clans has led to a bizarre situation in which white Karens want to import non-clan males and shower their altruism upon them (Note that non-clan females do not seem to be part of the equation). After all, this does improve their chances of mating, especially if those chances were otherwise poor.

Jupiter said...

Hence, stupid fats with Dayglo (TM) hair and nose-rings attacking ICE agents.

Jupiter said...

But this does point up a cruel fact of Patriarchy (TM); the mating competition among females, in a basically monogamous society, is brutal. If you are an unattractive (for whatever societally determined, and essentially arbitrary, reason) female, what are you to do? Just gracefully accept the termination of your genes? Perhaps while devoting yourself "to others" of your clan? Only if you are defeated. Fuck that! Mudshark, baby! Black (TM) guys don't know that you're unattractive!

Jupiter said...

And really, what allegiance do you owe, to a clan (race) that has turned its back on your reproductive prospects? The City falls, not because the walls are not strong, but because there is always someone who opens a back gate. From the inside.

Jupiter said...

Which is why, if you wish to defend the City, you must eventually attack and drive off or destroy the attackers. If the siege continues long enough, traitors will emerge.

Jupiter said...

BTW, this is also the reason for the oft-noted fact, that conservative women are much more likely to be highly attractive. There may be a slight effect, from intelligence making people attractive, but I suspect the effect is mostly in the opposite direction. It is a lot easier for a young woman to reconcile herself to the present state of society if that society assures her that she is valuable, and affords her many mating opportunities. Duh?

Can Trump sell the East Wing bricks?

Eva Marie said...

Good idea. He can sell them to rich Democrat doners. When the Dems win back power, they can tear down the ballroom and rebuild the east wing.

Eva Marie said...

They would do it, too.

Jupiter said...

So. The Democrats have over-played whatever hand they may have had, but the developing Republican ascendance is in danger of complacency. The Democrats have painted themselves as the Party of Victims, and invited everyone with a hard-luck story to get on board, preferably from the shitholes of the World. But people don't really like to view themselves as Victims=Losers, especially when there seem to be so many Winners. America First, and MAGA, basically says that if, by the luck of whatever draw, you are One Of Us, congratulations. You win. Otherwise, scram! And that is the message of American solidarity that can MAGA.

Knee replacement update at a little over 4 weeks, and at 2:30am: sleep still eludes, though not so much because of pain (there is some, but 1000mg Tylenol throughout the night does a pretty good job) but rather, it seems, stiffness. I have to get up and walk around a few times a night in order to sort of reset myself before I can fall asleep again.

The pain that there is is usually an ache except during exercise, such as PT, whereupon it can get pretty intense during certain movements; the PT people speculate that it could be several things, all of which will work themselves out. Their periodic soft-tissue work on the painful spots is... eye-opening.

I take about a two-mile walk daily, for no aerobic benefit; it's a stroll. But I'm glad to be adding distance. That stiffness is frustrating - on good days, it feels as if I should be able to kick out the pace to get immediately back to where I was before, but it's not possible yet. It's a strange feeling - better than before in that (again, on good days) walking doesn't hurt, during or after, but worse in that it doesn't yet feel like exercise because it's so slow.

Friends who have Gone Before assure me that All This Shall Pass. I am, reluctantly and without much aptitude, cultivating patience.

Back to sleep, I hope, until my 5am Tylenol.

When I heard the story about the FBI gambling probe involving rigged card games and the Mafia, including some of New York's crime families, I wondered whether Hunter was kicking himself about the Biden crime family not getting a piece of the action.

Re: NBA gambling scandal. It is very difficult to get an entire team to throw a game. It is significantly easier to get a single player to tank. Why do the gambling sites permit bets on individual performances. It’s a bribe waiting to happen.

gadfly said...

Excuse me if I am the only one to believe that yesterday's big announcement of the NBA betting scandal by our favorite crook, Kash Patel, was anything more than a half-baked attempt to get the media away from the demise of the East Wing of the White House.

“The fraud is mind-boggling,” FBI Director Kash Patel told reporters. “We’re talking about tens of millions of dollars in fraud and theft and robbery across a multiyear investigation.”

The alleged fraud, however, paled in comparison to the riches the athletes earned on the court. Chauncey Billups, who was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame last year, had about $106 million in earnings over his 17-year career. Terry Rozier made about $160 million in his stops in Boston, Miami, and Charlotte.

As for Mafia-related gambling activities, how many Mafioso from NY families got arrested yesterday? None were named.

Part of what makes the case feel so made-up is the alleged involvement of the mob. Thanks to decades of film, television, and books dedicated to tales of mafia exploits, the mafia has developed a mythical place in American culture, and Kash likes to use movie characters in his stories.

@Jamie. I am three months in to my second knee replacement. I have been bicycling every day. It strengthens the muscles around the knee plus it helps your range of motion. No pain and feels great. I had to raise the seat initially, but have been lower it as the range of motion improves.

Sleeping will improve, but it took about two months for me.

Jamie, have you thought of laser therapy? Wife who is 81 has faced knee replacement and opted for laser therapy. Amazing for reducing pain! Several treatments of a few minutes produced great improvement. This has been in use successfully on animals for years but now is also used with humans with similar results.

Gallup says the country gave Republicans a 14-point margin on handling the economy during peak inflation in 2023 and are now at a 4-point deficit — a shift of 18 points to the left since Trump took office. YouGov is saying about the same.

With Trump having Congress heeled while taking a wrecking ball to the economy, what could go wrong?

One wonders why AI-driven (presumably formerly plain old Google-driven) lefties bother to come here. They're clearly not honing their arguments for debate, or they'd deviate from the script sometimes, the way lone and Left and inga and Robert (where's Robert been?) do. They're not trying to persuade. They don't even seem to believe what they say - or maybe that's just the AI effect: "That's not [doing thing A]; that's [doing thing B]" repeated ad infinitum doesn't give your statements that air of authenticity so elusive to the left.

[shrug] Whatever. It's a free country.

Ronald J. Ward said...

Jaq — my point isn’t about who’s “shutting down” Congress or the details of immigration policy. It’s about how voters are reacting to what they’re seeing.

When Gallup and YouGov both show an 18-point swing on the economy away from Republicans, that’s not policy nuance — it’s perception. And perception wins elections.

When I said Trump has Congress “heeled,” I meant that Republican leadership has largely surrendered to him. The MAGA base might love that, but swing voters tend to read it as chaos and obedience — not leadership.

And none of them enjoy paying $8 a pound for ground beef and limited dolls for Christmas.

No way are the Progressive Democrats going to fold on perpetuating the Federal shutdown at least until after Election Day. They want the food stamps to run out, they want essential workers to go unpaid, and the best thing Republicans can do at this point is review the opposition voting record to the clean Continuing Resolution, and list those essential services that are being left unfunded at the expense of the people. Keep it simple.

Ronald J. Ward said...

Possibly, but that really isn’t the point.

It’s the economy, stupid — always has been, and it’ll still be long after all the polls and pundits are forgotten.

Trump ran on cheaper groceries and “winning so much we’d get tired of it.” Turns out, we’re mostly just tired — and groceries didn’t get cheaper. His current policies look ready to make sure they don’t anytime soon.

Come November 2026, I think there’s going to be hell to pay.
