I thought those were waterfowl in the second photo, but when I zoomed in I couldn’t tell what they were…

Jamie said...

I am partial to the second! It reads as upside down to me for some reason - an interesting effect.

We're staying in a farmhouse with a little pond that the owners have not been able to attend to this summer; we've hit it with Muck Away and my husband has started trying to rake as much algae up the banks as he can reach.

First post-op appointment, and change of dressing: the knee incision is very tidy, thin, clean, and utterly without the slightest inflammation. Thank you, Dr. Kodali and team, for your careful work!

One more week of the not-quite-unbearably-annoying compression stockings and I'm outta them and the dressing, ready to resume normal showers without wrapping my leg in Press 'n' Seal. This evening I am celebrating my progress with one ounce of wine, taking only ibuprofen at bedtime but keeping a hydrocodone beside me for 3am. Someone please advise if even the one ounce of wine means I'd better forgo the narcotic until tomorrow night.

Let me just emphasize the last sentence of my post above for those who habitually skip me:

Someone please advise if even the one ounce of wine means I'd better forgo the narcotic until tomorrow night.

Try alternating between ibuprofen and extra-strength Tylenol.

Jamie said...

Thanks, Kak - I've never had good luck with even extra-strength Tylenol. Of course I was taking it for pain for the week before the surgery to stay off the NSAIDs, but to not much avail. Still - worth a shot!

I'm just pretty excited that I'm down to one or no hydrocodone a day (depending on physical therapy - they want my pain well controlled so I'll do the work thoroughly, and I learned yesterday, on 800mg ibuprofen, that that wasn't enough!).

The general medical advice is to avoid alcohol entirely while taking Vicodin, as interactions can occur regardless of the amount.

Jane Goodall has passed.
She was one of Leakey’s angels or one of the Trimates. The other 2 were Dianne Fossey and Biruté Galdikas. All 3 were mentored by Louis Leakey, paleoanthropologist and archaeologist, who shaped our understanding of human evolution through his work in East Africa.
Leakey’s mentorship of Goodall, Fossey, and Galdikas broke the norm. At a time when women were rarely given scientific opportunities, Leakey chose these three based on their passion and observational skills, not formal credentials.
Dianne Fossey researched gorillas at Karisoke Research Center, Rwanda.
She was murdered in 1985, probably by poachers.
Jane Goodall studied chimpanzees in Gombe Stream National Park, Tanzania. She died today at the age of 91.
Biruté Galdikas conducted the first long-term study of orangutans. She established the Orangutan Foundation International in Indonesia. She is 79 and the last of the Trimates.
Job well done, Professor Leakey.

“Try alternating between ibuprofen and extra-strength Tylenol.”

Good advice, naproxen is easier on the stomach and the kidneys than ibuprofen and in my experience with NSAIDs it works better than ibuprofen.

’Someone please advise if even the one ounce of wine means I'd better forgo the narcotic until tomorrow night.’

One ounce of wine won’t make a bit of difference.

Vicki Hearne _Adam's Task_ has a nice essay on the philosophical emergency caused by teaching chimps sign language. Short form, dogs have been doing that stuff for centuries. But amusing stories about Chimp problems, like love of pornography, sitting in a tree reading Playboy. That revised some philosophers.

They wouldn't have if they had known it would reflect badly on the Democrats in 2025, I'm sure.

RIP Maru the cat.
Maru passed Sept 6 (I just found out today). He was 18 years old and at one time held the Guinness World Record for the most viewed animal on YouTube, certified in September 2016 with over 325 million views (a mark now surpassed by others).

I see a lot of liberals on a lot of social media platforms today screaming "Illegal immigrants can't get medical benefits from the government! It's unlawful!"

Seems it's also unlawful to hire an illegal alien at $300,000a yet- plus allowances and benefits- to run a school district, yet it's done.

My son and several of his ROTC buddies just got off their 4 years active duty obligation and are job hunting. I told them they should all send their resumes to the Board of Education applying for the job. Shouldn't be any more difficult then anything they were doing as they left the Army as Captains. Alas, they don't have mail order PhDs from a diploma mill to document their skills.

Every IRL Democrat I know thinks that Butler, PA was a false flag, but if you suggest that J6 was a false flag, they think that you are a kooky conspiracy theorist. You see, only the other side does false flags!

Gospace said...

Thought of something conspiratorial about the big meetup of flag officers.

Suppose you wanted to have a private meeting with a half dozen or so important officials out of a few hundred- but didn't want the meeting known? Inviting a half dozen from all over the world would raise eyebrows and a lot of questions. Inviting ALL of them would be seen as and derided as a "stunt" by all right thinking people, and the private meeting with the half dozen actual important ones could be held without anyone noticing.

Just a thought.

100% I also wondered why employees have to work without pay but Congress and those peole get paid Thats crap.If you cant do your job,,run the gvernment /especialy the ones who own all 3 branches, getting paid when others dont is ridiculous.
A handful of Democrats and Republicans are asking that their pay be withheld during the government shutdown, arguing that they should face the same consequences as federal workers and agents.
Among the Republicans asking for their paychecks to be paused are Reps. Chip Roy (R-TX), Gus Bilirakis (R-FL), Tom Barrett (R-WI), Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA), Bob Latta (R-OH), Mike Lawler (R-NY), Juan Ciscomani (R-AZ), Tom Kean Jr. (R-NJ), Young Kim (R-CA), and Rob Bresnahan (R-PA). All four members of the Iowa delegation to the House have also decided to forgo pay until the government reopens.
The lawmakers have insisted they don’t want to see a paycheck until “an appropriations agreement has taken effect.”
In his letter, Barrett stated that it is “wrong” for federal employees and military personnel to continue working without pay, while the president and members of Congress still receive a paycheck.
“In the event of a lapse in appropriations…I believe that fairness dictates that my pay also be withheld until such a time that normal government operations resume,” Barrett wrote.
On a press call, Rep. Brandon Gill (R-TX) said he plans to ask for his pay to be withheld “if needed” — noting that members don’t get paid until the end of October and, “I’m sincerely hoping that we can get through this before the end of the month.”
On the Democratic side, Reps. Suhas Subramanyam (D-VA), Seth Moulton (D-MA), Eugene Vindman (D-VA), Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ), and Nellie Pou (D-NJ), as well as Sens. Cory Booker (D-NJ) and Andy Kim (D-NJ), are asking for their pay to be withheld. THIS MAKES SENSE..IF YOU CAN'T GOVERN especially if your in charge of everything, you should not only not get paid,,yu should be fined every day you keep up the bullcrap!!

And there she goes again. If Inga - and only Inga - doesn't know anybody doing X, it's bullshit. It doesn't exist.

I've personally unfriended people who think it was a false flag. I've also unfriended people who lamented the assassin wasn't a better shot. And that includes family members.

There is an entire world existing outside your little comfort zone. Venture out and see it sometime.

Or at least don't be so dismissive of those who actually live in it.

One oz. of wine won't hurt you. For my hip the doc gave me a giant bottle of oxy. I threw it out. It doesn't work on me. I took an Ibu/Tylonol mixture and that took the edge off.

I have better friends and family. I'm removing those who gone over the edge into insanity because they live politics 24/7.

My point - that completely sailed over your head - is for YOU to expand your circles. Understand just because YOU aren't personally aware of it doesn't mean it isn't happening.

You and Freder both pull this bullshit. "Well, I don't about it ergo it's not happening. Must be the monkeys flying out of your butt."

Huh-uh. It may be inconvenient to recognize these things, but it doesn't make them any less real.

Jamie asked . . .

Someone please advise if even the one ounce of wine means I'd better forgo the narcotic until tomorrow night.

It depends upon the strength of the hydrocodone. I take hydrocodone-acetaminphen 5-325, commonly called Norco, and it just doesn't bite that hard. If you hurt, take the damn pill.

Inga said...

I can imagine it IS happening, but in far lower numbers than you and Jaq want to make everyone believe. It’s storytelling to try to make your opponents look bad.
