I always have theories, and I had never seen romantasy before until the s-o was watching one, and I joined her, and here is my theory: In regular literary fiction or Hollywood movies, the works are subject to sensitivity reads, the men must be weak and be failures who need the woman to come along and save their hopeless hides, and you know what? Women don't actually like to read about weak men, so romantasy, as a genre, is a reaction to what has happened to literature and movies. Even the women are rejecting what has been done to literary fiction, and because it's "fantasy," women are allowed to read about strong, dominant, masculine men, and "it doesn't count" against their woke score.

I suspect that if you brought all of the senior military command together in order to share information that you do not want to expose to possible interception, you might have a cover story, like a rah-rah speech, and a lot of important meetings might actually take place that you may not want just anybody to know about.
Or, it might just be a huge waste of time by people who have no idea what they're doing.
So maybe there will be a war or two very soon, or maybe nothing will happen.
In another thread about Jane Goodall, the observation was made that when more chimps came into an area, lured by easy access to food, the chimp society broke down. Yet our leaders expect millions of people to enter European countries and here as well with no protest from our populations.

It seems that Bari Weiss is about to become head of CBS News. Bari Weiss was an ambitious, hard-working lefty journalist who became an Opinion Page editor at the NYT at a very young age and then gave up that career because the NYT wouldn't allow her to showcase opinions from the right. She founded The Free Press which allows a range of opinions and made it work as a business that survived. Now she might be charge of the news at a major network. She will have no illusions about the snake pit she's being lowered into. She should just fire the first ten people who cross her.
Whatever she chooses to do, I hope and pray that she succeeds. After all, sometime we all have to get back together and the only enduring basis for a divided country to reunite is free speech for free consciences. That's what Bari Weiss stands for.

Prevented "patient dumping": EMTALA was a bipartisan response to the widespread practice of "patient dumping," where hospitals would refuse to treat or would transfer uninsured patients in emergency situations.
Required emergency treatment: The law requires any hospital that accepts Medicare—which includes most hospitals—to provide a medical screening and stabilizing treatment for emergency conditions, regardless of a person's ability to pay or immigration status.
Reimbursement for care: Emergency Medicaid is the funding mechanism that reimburses hospitals for this care. It does not provide ongoing healthcare coverage for undocumented individuals, only payment for specific emergency services.
Not a guarantee of long-term care: Once the emergency medical condition is stabilized, the hospital's obligation under EMTALA ends. The individual is not guaranteed any further care. I read somewhere today there were a lot of private meetings/briefings that weren't covered or noticed by the people calling the big meet a clownshow.
Also heard that Ann's thoughts on cameras scanning and analyzing the crowd were likely true.
In northern Arizona my zinnias and cosmos are still flowering. My cannabis is half harvested (2 of 4 plants), and it looks like I'll be yielding at least 6 lbs of dried flower. I don't even like the stuff, but decided to grow it for a lark this year. It is legal to grow 6 plants after all. I'm going to end up with vast quantities of the stuff, and it is apparently very strong. All my pot smoking friends and relatives are delighted with my new hobby. It's better than when I was making my own whiskey. That led to too much drinking for me. The funny thing is that this is entirely legal, and the whiskey was not.

The Dem shutdown is a Hail Mary play for the 2026 elections. For a few years I lived in Santa Cruz, CA. The ocean water temp in summer was in the high 50's range. I could run in, jump when it was deep enough, hit the first wave that was just offshore, then retreat with some urgency from the bone chilling cold water. Probably 45 seconds max.

Does this mean:
1. Hospitals are overcharging for “services rendered to stabilize undocumented immigrants” and then using that amount they overcharged for their services for labor and delivery services for the birth of U.S. citizens”
2. Money is fungible. How do you know hospitals are using these overcharges for labor and delivery services for the birth of US citizens?
Let me add according to this quote hospitals are charging double what they should be charging for services rendered to “undocumented immigrants.” Shouldn’t they go to jail for that? That’s stealing money from the US government.

So half of the money spent on the treatment of illegals is spent on the delivery of their babies who are US citizens at birth. So this is really an argument for curbing illegal immigration and deporting those who are here illegally rather than an argument for increasing funding to hospitals.

My adult handicapped son has seizures, and a Vagus Nerve Stimulator to control them. The device is similar to a heart pacemaker in that it is a self-contained electronic device implanted under the skin and it has an electrode to deliver pulses, to the vagus nerve in his case. The neurologist communicates with it by Bluetooth or something similar.
The battery was running low so a neurosurgeon put a new unit in. I just got the insurance company's statement. It said $90,000 for the new unit and $14,000 to put it in. My son is on multiple programs and the cost is fully covered.
Thanks, taxpayers. He is a cheery guy and everyone around is encouraged just by being in his presence. He enjoys life so much that sometimes I wish my life was so good.

Grundoon: The high costs on the invoice are for folks without health insurance. The government only pays 10% of billed medical prices for those of us covered under Medicare, and the medical billers write off the difference.
As for taxpayer assistance, $10,000 is the real number.
