Rachel Maddow is at a loss for words.

When she sees her employer on the donor list for the Trump ballroom.

Guys, that's not real. It's not about the ballroom. It's a mashup of the ballroom pic/donor list with an old vid from a few years back when she really did do that because of some Trump "atrocity" - something to do with "migrants", if memory serves me.

Inga said...

Reports of Rachel Maddow crying on air over Comcast's inclusion on a donor list for a potential Trump ballroom are inaccurate. This claim stems from a doctored video that recirculated in late November 2024.

Here's the background on what actually happened:
The real incident: On June 19, 2018, Maddow became visibly emotional and cut her show short while attempting to report on the Trump administration's "tender age" shelters for migrant children. She later apologized for her emotional reaction, and the broadcast received widespread media coverage.

The fake video: In November 2024, an old clip of Maddow crying during the 2018 broadcast was deceptively edited. It replaced the original news report with a meme about Elon Musk potentially buying MSNBC, leading many viewers to believe she was crying over that meme.

The ballroom and Comcast news: Separately, around the same time, news reports and commentary on MSNBC covered Donald Trump's plans for a ballroom and the list of corporate donors that included Comcast. However, there is no evidence that Maddow broke down crying on air specifically in reaction to this list.

Gemini

I must ask, what is wrong with you people? You buy this fake video as real and are gleeful over it. Yes, there is something not right with you people.

Leland said...

The same goes for ‘MAGAts’: an absolute proof that the writer is a fool, a creep, and a liar. Not surprising, really: imagining your political opponents as disgusting insects you would only hesitate to step on because you don’t want the stain on your sole is a solid proof that you already have an equally nasty stain on your soul, and desperately need a shrink, a priest, or an exorcist.

In the previous 100 years the WH had gotten so run down that it was physically unsafe. A bathtub fell from the 2nd floor at one point. If it were a private building, it would have been condemned and buldozed flat.

In 1950 Truman completely gutted the building, leaving only exterior walls standing and then rebuilt it. There was some sentiment that it should be demolished completely and rebuilt from scratch but Truman put the kibosh on that.

It came out pretty well to the point where few people even realize that, other than a few walls, nothing is older than 1951 or so.

Nobody ever complains about that or about all the other presidents who let it become so run down.

I'd like to thank Inga for pointing out that Rachel Maddow has in fact not cried over this. She hasn't criticized Comcast. At all. For this. She is one of the main profit drivers for Comcast, creating the wealth that Comcast is giving Donald Trump to create a lasting monument to Trump attached to the White House - something no other President has.

Rachel Maddow helps Donald Trump by creating a Comcast audience. MAGA would like to take this opportunity to thank Rachel both for funding this, and not crying about it on air, or criticizing Comcast in any way for this.

Thanks for clarifying this, Inga.

So the destruction of the White House can be laid, at least partly, at Rachel Maddow's feet. She's OK with it, as long as she gets her $30 million a year payoff.

Lazarus said...

Rhodes Scholar Pete Buttigieg is dumber than a rock. Oxford PPE cultivates glibness and facility, rather than wisdom or understanding.

Are we suddenly assuming that people need some special, hateful or envious reason for disliking a pundit on the other side? Isn't that just what people do? Leftists hated "loveable fuzzball" Rush Limbaugh. Some rejoiced when he died. One of Maddow's fans shot up the congressional baseball or softball game, so if one needs a special reason for disliking her, there it is.

I notice that nobody gave Althouse much grief for posting a fake video. Maybe they assumed she didn't know or maybe the appreciated the joke on other commenters who fell for it. So kindness and consideration instead of "cruel neutrality." Something to remember, perhaps?

Anyone ever seen Maddow and Ronnie Reagan Jr. in the same room/same time?

“I followed Althouse's link. The explanation from the creator was right there.”

No it wasn’t part of Althouse’s link. I did scroll down on X to see the creator say it was a “meme”. Yeah right, he’s trying to pass it off as meme to give himself cover for putting out a fake video. It was lowly and dirty and for those of you who just had a great laugh off of fakery that wasn’t clearly labeled as an AI video, you are the fools.

Inga said...

Also, the grand majority of commenters here thought it was REAL.

Fred Drinkwater said...

Give it up, Inga. The actual video of Maddow crying about the separated kids was fake too, in the sense that she didn't care about the same thing happening under Obama.
But if course, no disclaimer by her producer back then.

It's a handmade tale. It's funny. A fetus... feature of our modern family. Throw another baby on the barbie, it's over.

Actually Inga, I think a fair number of people here really don't care enough about Rachel Maddow to think twice about the video. They wouldn't watch her at night, they don't pay attention to her opinions, and they would expect nothing else from her, besides what they just watched - if they watched it (I moved on after about 5 seconds).

What's your point? That the commenters here can't spot an A.I. fake or edited video as satire? Really, that's your point? Oh noes...

A Very Important Person High in Government once said, in a response to a question about a completely phony story: "No - But it rings true, doesn't it?". Remember him?

The only difference is, he created the lie and set it in motion subverting all of the machinery of government to pass it off un-democratically to create political damage - not some online comic making a harmless video for laffs.

@Ice Nine, my wife knew a varsity athlete at the university where she was in grad school, who went on to become a Rhodes Scholar, professional athlete, and member of Congress. She wasn’t impressed.

Just as long as Trump doesn't destroy the Lincoln bedroom. That was a real moneymaker. And could be again.

So a commenter who cuts and pastes AI-chat crap - and tries to pass it off as an argument - is chastising others for a lack of due diligence on a AI video.

I couldn’t get X to give me embedding code so that’s why you had to go to the link. On reflection, I think that’s not a good way to share something that is a joke so I guess I just should not have published this. I’m a little shocked that they’re 155 comments on this! It’s not my thing to try to get a lot of engagement by doing something tricky. I consider it lowly and what’s this world coming to?

YOu can't depend on your teachers.
You can't depend on your preachers.
You can't depend on politicians.
And you can't depend on superstitions...

Tricky, Tricky, Trick.
We live in a low-trust society and some of you are giggling your way into making it more so. Not gonna be a fun place to live when you don't trust anyone, ann.
Don't do this again. Take care with your work here?

’But you go ahead and pretend that Maddow and her fellow Rhodes Scholars aren't necessarily smart, since it serves your spurious purpose.’

I notice you omitted the most germane portion of my comment: the transcripts and articles I’ve read of hers don’t reflect intellectual acuity. Perhaps you could provide a link to an article or transcript you believe showcases her brilliance.

You also fail to support your accusation, n.b. your second fallacy, that I have a ‘spurious purpose’.

Beasts of England said...

’…Maddow and her fellow Rhodes Scholars…’

And I was only addressing Maddow, not any other of her fellow Rhodes Scholars. That’s three, by the way. lol

Even if the ballroom plans are as fake as Maddow's efforts to pretend to be crying, has anyone here ever toured the White House? You can get a sense of it if you watch House of Cards. This rendering would not be aesthetically out of place for its purpose as a ballroom. It looks quite a lot like the ballroom of the Waldorf Astoria, or a less-fancy Willard, which are by far nicer than the sad Seventies-looking ballrooms at other hotels and event sites in DC. I used to rack up my travel points and stay at the Willard when I spoke in DC. The rooms I stayed in are small and spare, in keeping with the architectural priorities of the era, but the common spaces are something to see. The main lobby is where the term "lobbying" derives (they claim, but if you see it, the story is believable).

Look at pictures of the Willard and Walrdorf Astoria. This is what foreign dignitaries and domestic politicians -- especially those of the Democratic Party, the Party of Wealth -- expect from hotels and ballrooms.

I'm sure Maddow herself doesn't stay at the La Quinta on the Beltway.

After Truman was through there was nothing left of Lincoln’s bedroom or any other internal structure of the White House. All that was preserved were the external walls.

At least Trump didn't hire the architects of the lefty-beloved EU. That place has meeting rooms that look as if IKEA threw them up like a crayon-colored hairball.

It's not really hate. She steps on a lot of rakes. It's boring now.
