"Some Trump allies rationalize what’s happening by saying that they can escalate to deescalate — that is, respond to the legal attacks on Trump with wilder legal attacks on his enemies, thus deterring conflict in the future... "Many Democrats still cannot see how their legal aggression against Trump during his four years out of power set the stage for the dangerous revenge tour on which he is now embarked."

There are none so blind as those who will not see.
Your people are guilty of real crimes. It isn’t revenge it's rule of law…finally catching up to you.
You say this now to try and help your buddies get away with it. That just incentivizes you all to do it bigger and more often. Civilization doesn’t survive that…
Get rid of you guys more good people might be attracted to public service again
Correcting the system requires correcting the system. It’s not just the lawfare against Trump which was wrong, but the absence of law enforcement that also occurred.
You could have hit Comey for the big crimes he committed but you hoped to statute of limitations him across the finish line. So this is what we’re left with. He should still go to jail but he won’t. Best to stop your whining and take the win…
Comey won't go to prison, but his misdeeds need to be brought into the sunlight. And as the Donks know well, the process is the punishment.
Democrats: legal aggression
Trump: dangerous revenge tour
The implication that Smith and Comey are "good people"...
They think Uncle Saul's Rules are still in force. This isn't their grandfather's Republican party.
Reap what you sow... they did this 'get Trump' shtick for FOUR YEARS.. and they didn't think what goes around.. comes around?
They are trying stand up now
They exploited the Rule of Law, twisting it to suit their ends, and now that it's being corrected, they have become plaintive in their efforts to cast it as simple revenge. It's not simply punishment; it's justice. The extent of their bias extends to their inability to acknowledge or accept any result that cannot be seen through partisan filters.
An objective observer would have at least rehearsed the huge list of charges and lawsuits launched against Trump before saying that this one lying FBI scumbag indictment is “wildly” worse than what Democrats did. The DOJ didn’t pierce Comey’s attorney client privilege, or file charges using a novel legal theory or break down every word Comey spoke into— say — 34 “separate felonies” right?
You went after his lawyer his valet his economist (redacted) off
It's almost hard to believe that this all started out iusing the power of the Federal machinery to squelch the Tea Party using the IRS, and most every rancid scheme since then has been an effort to cover it up by deploying some other powerful tool, digging deeper and deeper into the National Security arsenal, to keep the story buried, keep conservatives weak and on the defensive - proving once again that it's always the cover-ups that reveal the crimes.
What’s meant by good here? Competent? Ethical? Politically aligned?
When “good people” becomes shorthand for our people, the phrase stops meaning anything. The real risk isn’t just that decent individuals will walk away — it’s that we’ll start defining goodness by loyalty rather than integrity.
What could they expect? If you aim at the king, you’d better not miss. They did — and the cycle that followed was inevitable. People who go into politics aren’t known for letting bygones be bygones, and from what I’ve read of Mr. Trump, he’s the epitome of that.
This is the biggest lie in the article. As if good people are not already deterred from politics. Being corrupt and corruptible are the first requirements for the job. Perhaps the editorial staff thinks Mr. Smith Goes to Washington was a documentary.
Good people will be deterred from public service if they see a meaningful risk of winding up in jail afterward.
What's the alternative to prosecuting Democrats that Democrats are suggesting? Tell us one Democrat you DO think should be prosecuted.
The Editorial Board of the Post was fine with Jack Smith's lawfare at the time. The whole reason they're calling it out now is because the worm has turned.
Its cosplay concern
Man, Democrats really thought they could spend four years throwing political opponents in prison and it wouldn’t come back to bite them later on. I don’t know whether to pity their naivety or hate them even harder for their arrogance.
Because of bagpipe barr the stature of limitations lapsed
"Many Democrats still cannot see how their legal aggression against Trump during his four years out of power set the stage for the dangerous revenge tour on which he is now embarked."
Narcissists rarely comprehend the full extent or impact of their narcissism.
Lying to Congress under oath--no biggie. Right.
I sense the convergence around a general strategy here.
For example, how better to avoid a perp walk than for your dwindling deep state allies within government to leak to you remaining allies in the media that you will be subject to a humiliating perp walk, whether it’s true or not?
Is this how the club of former spooks stripped of their security clearances now fill their days?
"Republicans rationalize" or "Republicans reason." And, BTW, Republicans are going after actual criminals who broke actual laws as they have been on the books and generally enforced for a long long time, not making bizarre claims like calls for "calm," and for people to "go home," and to "respect law enforcement," were somehow dogwhistles for violence.
Or when classified documents kept by other politicians were overlooked, like the cardboard box of classified documents in Joe Biden's garage, or the classified documents that the "Biden Foundation" kept in their office, and we know from the laptop that Hunter requested Chinese Nationals be given keys for that office.
You don't see anything that solid against Trump or Republicans, like Manafort, who was accused of corruption by the Ukrainians, and after the election, they had to admit that the "evidence," the "Black Ledger," had no evidence that they could swear to behind it.
"with blanket preemptive pardons come January 2029...."
Autopen still work?
And Comey did lie to Congress, but I guess that the WaPo thinks that that is no big deal.
They didnt care as long one is imprisoned or bankrupt
"Being corrupt and corruptible are the first requirements for the job."
Yep. I have become so cynical that I am now certain that the Roadrunner worked for Acme, and the coyote was an allegory for the voting public.
Of course this is the same media that obsessed for weeks over a republican who might have used the non-word “macaca” and we were lectured about how it was somehow racist. Yet a democrat candidate for AG that made phone calls and numerous texts saying he wanted his republican opponent dead, wanted to kill his children in front of their mother and watch her suffer so the AG would change how he voted.
And not a peep from broadcast news not even CBS. How fair and balanced!
Where does Mike Flynn go to get his life back? Roger Stone?
The gang of 51 certified their zinoviev fraud
That shows they approve the blood drunk apparatchik
We have seen how some of the ring wraiths rationalize these proscriptions here

No thank you.
Yes Beast. It is as if they don’t understand you can’t “revenge” without first being wronged.
And again with “deterring conflict in the future”? Fuck, it hasn’t been a month since Charlie Kirk was assassinated. Two attempts were made on Trump and a judge gave leniency to a guy (he’s is a male, if not a man) that attempted to murder several Justices. That’s going with WaPo’s term “conflict” rather than what they likely meant in “continued legal aggression”.
The thing is, passively just taking these blows hasn’t stopped the aggression, WaPo editorial board. In fact, the aggression has gone from trying to block opposing views from the internet, to trying to put them in jail, and to now trying to put them in the ground. And it isn’t hard to see what is ahead if pushback doesn’t occur. We need only look to the UK, where peaceful protests in the millions is called a threat to Democracy, but violent protests in support of a terrorist attack are allowed to go on. Or in Canada, where they just handed down prison sentences to people that peacefully protested their government in a manner that included bouncy houses.
Not to mention all the people associated with Trump who were persecuted too. I’ve never even seen an article that tallied exactly how many people in Trump’s orbit were charged or sued, nor what the total number of charges there were. But we know one thing, Biden had Trumps home raided by armed agents and not one of Trump’s enemies has been or will be abused that way. No perp walks. No mugshot. No video of them arriving at the courthouse to be arraigned.
Biden and Obama cruelty is unmatched.
BTW, Comey set in motion a Congressional investigation based on an accusation that the evidence now shows that the CIA knew was a Clinton Campaign lie, to deflect from her use of an un secured email system and destruction of Federal Records of her meetings as Secretary of State with foreigners who contributed money to the Clinton Foundation, and had business before the US State Department.
But as far as I am concerned, let the Democrats get carried away, the sooner the pretense that our government is here to serve anybody but the mega donors comes to an end, the better.
Not to mention the red mass bomber
They are soul less nazguls pretending to be human
Scalia's death, BTW, sure looks like an assassination. Except that the Democrats never got to replace him because of that bastard Trump! He went on a hunting trip to a remote hunter lodge, with some new acquaintances, who were members of a secret society, he was found dead with a pillow over his head, and his body was cremated before it left the area where he died.
Those are just the facts. The things that people will do for control over trillions of dollars in spending and the world's largest military go beyond how one might cheat at beanbag.
The Washington Post is the company newspaper for a one-company town. That company is, of course, government. Company newspapers never print anything negative about the company. The greatest number of company employees in DC are Democrats, so to the Post, they can do no wrong. Even when Democrats do something wrong, it’s even worse when the Republicans notice and demand consequences.
Writes the Editorial Board of The Washington Post, in "Jack Smith’s lawfare and James Comey’s arraignment on pathetically weak charges/Good people will be deterred from public service if they see a meaningful risk of winding up in jail afterward"
Stuff nobody was worried about when a hell hole prison in Georgia was taking Trump's mugshot.

Toss "good people" on the pile of words that stopped meaning anything, like "nazi" and "racist".
They paupered Rudy Giuliani for looking into Biden's corruption in Ukraine, when he was Trump's lawyer for the impeachment, and a lot of the energy for that impeachment was coming out of Ukraine.
Now we have documents that show that even the Ukrainians were complaining about the hypocrisy of Joe Biden lecturing them on corruption when his family business in Ukraine was plainly corrupt.
Their appeals for de-escalation always come just after they're no longer the ones able to do the escalating. Pathetic, and quite amusing.
Why would anyone take them seriously? After all they're the ones who so pompously set the standard ("No one is above the law") and then pretty much disregarded every law themselves.
What is probably the kernel of truth here is that the Democrats will go way further on this into the area of baseless and vindictive legal harassment than the Republicans could even dream of.
The white toga crowd will tut tut
"Legal Aggression", you're too kind.
They make the confident assumption they’re returning to power when Trump is over…
So this is how they try to emotionally package the Biden Administration's spying on Republican Senators? "Oh the left did do x, y, z, and many others, but Trump is SO much worse." The piece bemoans what Trump's administration is doing, but what is their alternative offered? There is no likely scenario in which the left abstains from lawfare in the future unless they experience the real pains and hardships of lawfare inflicted upon them. As a consequence of the widespread moral inferiority complex held on the left they tend to view themselves as good people and the right as deplorables. This leads them to excuse or ignore their own bad behavior and justify or even celebrate when bad actions are inflicted on the right. How can the right reliably bargain and trust the left to come to an agreement on fair play, when this is the widespread mindset of the left? The left are not good partners in democracy. They have far too much of a Machiavellian, ends justify the means, mindset and are lacking an adequate dose of valuing procedural fairness. Want further evidence? Look at the absolutely corrupt and undemocratic way they ran their own Democratic primary and foisted Kamala Harris onto their voters. The left are cheaters.
Attacks on Trump were like those old sci-fi movies in the 1950’s where they nuked Godzilla, not realizing it only made him stronger. All the lawfare attacks on him have only made him stronger with his base.
All the lawfare attacks on him have only made him stronger with his base
Heck they made him a sympathetic creature to Ann here, who voted for the Clintons over Trump and she loathes the Clintons…
I am old enough to have an opinion about the persecution of Team Nixon and the follow-on exposure of FBI and CIA bad stuff. I was assured by Democrats and the press (but I repeat myself) that was all uniquely a product of Richard Nixon's inadequacies (thereby ignoring the shenanigans of FDR, JFK, and LBJ. Nothing says justice like making your brother Attorney General.)
Comey and Smith earned this. As noted above Comey escaped via the statute of limitations on his worst activities. Smith is almost a crackpot.
WaPoo is still not in the picture. Wake up, Jeff Bezos! Bah!
planetgeo said, "Their appeals for de-escalation always come just after they're no longer the ones able to do the escalating."
They really don't know what they've done to themselves. There will be no further de-escalation from now on. We had some semblance of 'normalcy', which they gleefully broke down Chesterton's Fence in order to create a 'new normal'.
"New normals" will now be broken through with frightening speed and frequency moving forward. They wanted it. They're going to get it. Great job!
Was it two or three fake impeachments? I forget.
When I was growing up back in the '50s we had a saying, "turn about is fair play." Does this still apply?
Why, it's almost as if they still don't understand that the lawfare used against Trump was...trumped up nonsense. The Steele Dossier? Seriously?
There are people (looking at you, Adam Schiff) who still need to be taken to task for manipulating the truth and spurring improper impeachment proceedings, not to mention handcuffing the President. There are people who were behind tapping the candidate Trump's office and home communications. There are scores who came before Congress (and the American people) and lied about all of it.
My word- there are throngs who knowingly put an incapable man, Joe Biden, in as President, and manipulated the Democrat Primary process in order to take power under the guise of 'Joe being the best Biden I've ever seen.'
There are even some who blocked the evidence of Joe taking millions from corrupt business and political operatives in Ukraine, Russia, and other countries. Not to mention many who censored any talk of Hunter's laptop.
There are so many crooked and many other illegal things that were done TO Trump, to associates of Trump, to family members of Trump. Even lawyers who might have represented him were threatened.
No...both are not the same. Not even in the same ballpark. And this nation will not get better until those perpetrating the crooked and corrupt operations come clean and show they have a modicum of understanding of what they did.
We're not there yet. Not even close.
So much for the "new" Washington Post.

Its margarine outrage
They think the threat of indiscriminate jailing if their opponents is going to be a winning Presidential platform for them…
"How do you feel about the legal strategies used by both sides in the ongoing political warfare?"
This is the question the prefaces the comments section. While I disagree with the characterization by the Editorial Board in their opinion piece, I do recognize that the WP readership is likely overwhelmingly on the side of Trump and the Republicans are an existential threat to Democracy so whatever we do is okay. So maybe getting those people to accept and acknowledge that the Left has misused the government and weaponized the legal system against their political opponents even if they make it sound like what Trump is doing is so much worse is a good first step. It is hard for people to make dramatic changes in world-view. This might be a good first step, a baby step but still a first step.
In my opinion, the only way this cycle gets broken is if those who actually committed crimes are charged, convicted, and face real punishment, and then Vance wins the next election and then is reelected, so that by the time the Dems come back into power the "retributive" punishment is something that happened to other, much older people rather than (as in Trump's case) something that happened to him and his personal associates.
If only Nixon had a profiteering network and a cultish Basket of Gulibles to just keep chanting “which hunt”, he would have never been victimized as a lying crook.
They want mercy and understanding now 'its not that type of a movie'

Nope. We're on an express elevator to hell. More than half these people celebrated killing a man for talking, and most of those were under 30.
The Prisoner's Dilemma will end, not when they stop hitting 'defect' and instead hit 'cooperate', but when their button is removed from them altogether. Not a moment sooner.
LOL, look at who’s crying “witch hunt” now LOL
Revenge tour my ass!
These Dems started the use of the federal government to punish political opponents. The bill has now become due.
Get this, Althouse Community. Joe Biden is set to speak at the Nebraska Dems big fundraiser. I'm thinking I will go.
You people need to stop legitimizing the revenge bullshit.
It is stupid.
Comey committed crimes. Comey put people in jail for the things he himself did.
Comey should go to jail for at least as long as all of the people he put in jail for committing the same crimes he committed.
Tickets are $300. I'm going. November 7.
Ronald J. Ward: Which which are you referring to? I find whichs whenever I hunt for them, and I am sure you do, too. Witches, on the other hand, are harder to come by, although a lot of them are appearing on the internet these days.

I wouldn't go if they paid me $300 and held it in my backyard.
The only Trump follower that deserved a prison sentence was Douglass Mackey. His memes got out of control and might have cost Hillary the 2016 election.
I can't give the Dems $300. But I'll do $75 for the overflow room.
How can you say “revenge tour” without explicitly stating revenge for WHAT?
@Mike (MJB Wolf), Literally the meme.
Tangentially, why does vindictive mean "having or showing a strong or unreasoning desire for revenge", when vindication means "showing or proving to be right, reasonable, or justified"?
WaPout
these loyal asshole leftists lied. They deserve what they get.
Anything you can get away with doing to an elected billionaire president can be done to everyone. If you get away with breaking attorney-client privilege for Trump, no conversation with any lawyer is safe; if you test-a-lie your way to Trump surveillance warrants, anyone can be spied on; if FBI goons can target the president for criminal investigation first and hunt for predication later, any FBI chief can cook up any case he or she pleases. The prospect of this particular ex-FBI chief walking is outrageous since no one, not even former CIA chief John Brennan, lied so frequently, fluidly, and with such absolute assurance of getting away with it as James Comey:
Taibbi on fire!
That the corrupt soviet-D media spin it al as revenge - is more bullshit.
these loyal leftists LIED and built fake crimes. they can all pay.
Taibbi.
A lone wolf of truth.
RSM that’s the first good take I’ve seen using the goose chase meme.
"Good people will be deterred from public service" Bit late for that. Did they express the same concern when Comey et al. went after General Flynn and many of Trump's other associates?
"Some Trump allies rationalize what’s happening by saying that they can escalate to deescalate" Like, who?
"Republicans are naïve if they’re confident they can deliver the final blow" Which Republicans? Republicans assume that Dems will pick up where they left off, mobilizing the entire government against them, FBI and CIA and IRS and DOJ included, just like before, BAMN.
"Many Democrats still cannot see how their legal aggression against Trump during his four years out of power set the stage for the dangerous revenge tour on which he is now embarked because they believed what they read in The Washington Post and the crazy part is, they still do. LOL!"
Didn't Colin Powell warn about the consequences of "breaking things" some 25 years ago? Well he was right.
I do recognize that the WP readership is likely overwhelmingly on the side of Trump and the Republicans are an existential threat to Democracy so whatever we do is okay. So maybe getting those people to accept and acknowledge that the Left has misused the government and weaponized the legal system against their political opponents even if they make it sound like what Trump is doing is so much worse is a good first step.
I think that Trump was willing to just expose this. Certainly much of the GOP simply thought exposing the corruption in the FBI, DOJ, and Obama/Biden Administrations along with Clinton’s campaign. But the exposure is only leading to “but Trump is still worse”. If exposure isn’t enough, then next is seek conviction. The worry is that won’t be enough to accept responsibility.
I got no problem with revenge. You break the law, the state takes revenge.
"You tell 'em I'm coming! And Hell's coming with me you hear! Hell's coming with me!"
A lot of voters are not willing to accept anything short of revenge. They have seen the corruption, and they want it punished., not just pointed out. In fact, pointing it out without revenge is worse than not mentioning it. That's just a show and tell of what you can get away with, and rubbing it in the voters' faces.
Bank robber's girlfriend still cannot see how 4 years of robbing banks set the stage for his arrest and prosecution.
"Them cops just have it in for him," she said, "But they a bunch of crooks theyselves and he needed that money. We had plans!"
Iraq was already broken the tikriti had looted everything that wasnt nailed down
The democrats turned the country into a banana republic with all the shit they pulled against Trump. Now they complain that we live in a banana republic. I originally thought Trump should take the high road, but fuck that it would only encourage the bastards.
You all are missing the real question of public interest here:
Why does the Post use an umlaut in ‘naive’ but not in ‘deescalate?’ CC, JSM
"legal aggression"
It wasn't legal aggression it was lawfare. And its not just people on the right that see that. Any normie that has sold a house, or known someone who has sold a house, knows that creating 34 felonies out of the accusation that you over-valued your property while seeking a loan is bullshit. Batshit crazy TDS sufferers may buy into that, but everyone else is rolling their eyes.
From the article: It might feel satisfying for some people to watch their opponents get perp walked, but what goes around often comes around.
I’ve got better things to do with my time than to do an exhaustive search, but in the absence of diligence, I’ll wonder idly if I can recall any such proclamation when Trump was being repeatedly impeached, FISA spied on, and mercilessly prosecuted in many jurisdictions.
Nah, can’t think of any such thing. Maybe I’ll ask Grok.
- Krumhorn
OK WaPo. Thanks for your worthless: " D's do it - good, R's do it - bad." word salad editorial.
What evidence it there that the R's "turning the other cheek" will stop the D's from "Continuing the cycle"?
The D's started it. They were initial agressors who broke all traditions and norms to destroy Trump and his friends and supporters. Go look at a list of all of Trump's associates who were arrested and tried for the most absurd made up charges.
And they're not sorry. Hear any apologies? LOL.
So the only way to stop them is make them understand that two can play their game. Its a double edged sword. So, maybe like a bully who's been punched in the face, maybe they'll think twice - next time. Common Sense 101.
Nah bruv they never cared about that
And boy the MSM sure does a good job at "Framing" the story and "setting the narrative" dont they?
Do you remember the MSM ever talking about Biden's DOJ taking revenge on Trump or using "Lawfare"? I don't. No, they were saying "let the legal process play out" and "No one is above the law". Were they ever concerned about "The cycle of legal aggression" when Biden was doing it? Of course not.
THe most MSM would say is "Trump and his supporters claim the prosecutions are politically motivated" and then quote 10 legal scholars saying it wasn't.
Any more than when you coordinate terrorist operations from a high rise you dont get thr benefit of the doubt
"And they're not sorry. Hear any apologies?"
Doesn't matter. Even if given, their apology is no longer acceptable.
’If only Nixon had a profiteering network and a cultish…’
How positively quaint, Chuck.
Comey is either innocent or guilty. Everyone knows he was lying under oath to congress. He did so on numerous occassions. He certainly will get a fair trial given the Judge is a Biden appointed far-leftist. And the jury pool is made up of Democrats and Trump-haters.
To get Trump, Biden's DoJ had to make up some ridiculous convoluted theory that he committed some mysterious crime. I followed the cases for years and still can't tell you EXACTLY what Trump did that was criminal.
In Comey's case its obvious, he lied under oath to Congress. And Biden's DOJ put Republicans in jail for the same crime. In fact they broke prescedents and put Republicans in jail for not testifying to congress.
WTF! They want carte blanche to do it again! Give these deluded midwits a taste of what they’ve been doing for years and whining is the best they can do!?
Feck ‘em.
Gaslighting sons of bitches!
They literally ransacked his wife's drawers. No man could tolerate such a sexist and depraved invasion of her privacy.

I want some deterrence for unelected officials deciding to drum up fake stories and leaks and pushing them for partisan gain. That's not the FBI's role in government.
They brought this on themselves.
BTW, the US government make would-be citizens take a citizenship test. Several of the questions are about rule of law, and one of the answer is NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW, EVEN HIGH OFFICIALS.
So we literally have a strong duty to make high officials like James Comey face the justice system, for the sake of rule of law.
This is an interesting opinion peace and the overall premise, I agree with. However, it would have been so much more meaningful and weighty had it been published during the Biden Administration (and the Obama Administration, too).
It shouldn't take "Republicans" doing the "bad things" that the Democrats were doing , for the media to suddenly see that political prosecutions are wrong and very banana republic-ey.
It's becoming predictable and does nothing to improve our nation or our relationships with each other.
Democrat scofflaws may be temporarily deterred, but they are not “good people.” When Democrats are back they will flock to the cookie jar.
If you want a fix for political lawfare- here it is: allow an accused person to choose from which federal district his jury is drawn.
And it has been great fun watching Ronald Ward devolve so quickly into a quivering mass of angry jelly.
Hes really phoning it in, but like captain oveur in airplane
What's dangerous to the Republic is if only one side can punish the abusers of office of the other side.
That's what Democrats want and pretty much what they've had since Clinton left office. Some of his lackies were punished, but not as many as were exposed, like the security henchman who asked for?/accepted 900 Republican FBI files and the FBIers who sent them.
If you want a fix for political lawfare- here it is: allow an accused person to choose from which federal district his jury is drawn.
Oh like Comey got to choose a Biden judge yesterday? Ya that might work.
Mike, I am just looking for somethin that will put a stop to the political lawfare at the federal level and that might pass constitutional problems. For example, the other way- allowing the prosecution to choose the jury pool would fail constitutional challenges from the left side while it is already the default for prosecuting the right. My suggestion at least balances the playing field.
If extended to civil trials, too, it would put an end to forum shopping by both prosecutors and plaintiffs.
The Leftwing judiciary is outta control and we 2 types of justice, one for Conservaties/Maga and another for the Left and the Democrats. The R's control all 3 branches and could fix the problem - but they wont. Because the R's in the senate are from the same uniparty as the D's. They don't care.
"The R's control all 3 branches and could fix the problem - but they wont."
How would they do that?
you still have possums in the Senate and House,

No, they are not.
The "secret society" is the International Order of St. Hubertus , a hunting society rather than a kind of clandestine and conspiratorial "secret society" .
Scalia was found with a pillow "above" his head , not over his *face* or in any way positioned to stop him from breathing. It seems Trump himself made an incorrect statement about where the pillow (actually several ) were.
Scalia's remains were interred at Fairfax Memorial Park in Fairfax, Virginia . A Roman Catholic, he was buried, not cremated.
Scalia's ailments included coronary artery disease, diabetes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and obesity. He was 79.
"Next to his bed was a "breathing apparatus," the sheriff said, with the hose for the machine resting on the edge of the bed. It was not clear why Scalia needed the machine, but he had a series of health ailments that included sleep apnea."
https://abc7.com/post/sheriffs-report-on-scalia-death-reveals-new-details-and-questions/1217071/
The GOP held a substantial Senate majority when Scalia died, and refused to confirm Merrick Garland when Obama nominated him to take Scalia's place. So it's hard to sort out the basis for your claim that Scalia was assassinated.

The thing here is that the big difference is that Trump etc are prosecuting Dems and Deep Staters for real crimes, while they very often prosecuted Trump and his allies for made up shit - that very often wouldn’t survive appeal on Due Process grounds, because the interpretations of the laws they used were novel (and very often wrong), and because of that the defendants were not on proper notice that what they had done was criminal.
An easy one was LTG Flynn’s case of Obstruction of Justice. It finally fell apart through a failure to prove Materiality. The case law used to ignore materiality predated Congress amending the Obstruction statute to include a Materiality requirement, in response to a Supreme Court case that said that it wasn’t. Materiality was gored, because it was inconvenient.
The cases against Trump were similarly flawed, and honest prosecutors would never have filed them with other defendants. The DC J6 prosecution wouldn’t have survived based on Executive immunity and was factually deficient, even if they had been able to overcome that. And the FL Documents case was a joke. The President has full control over his papers. There is no statute giving Archives any overriding say in it (nor of protesting his decision, or even filing the criminal referral that they filed). Moreover, he has plenary declassification authority. Period. And the fact that the organizations behind the case (DOJ Counterintelligence and Export Control section and FBI Counterintelligence Division) refused his direct order to declassify documents didn’t make them still classified (we only started seeing those formally declassified documents a week or so ago).
The J6 prosecutions were equally flawed. The FBI refused, until a couple weeks ago to admit that they had some 275 agents in the crowds that day. For years, they had been lying through their teeth, claiming that there had only been a handful. Plus a number of agents, some at least who actively encouraged violence. None of this was made available to the J6 defendants, which was a pretty gross Brady violation.
Contrast that with the Trump/Bondi prosecutions. Comey really did lie to Congress, (and they were Material misrepresentations). The Trump/Bondi DOJ is playing by the rules. They are using real facts and real laws. The Biden/Garland DOJ didn’t. They didn’t come close. They made up laws (through LawFare misinterpretations) as well as facts, then used their tax funded superior financial resources to deep pocket hapless defendants. Thats the critical difference.
"Next to his bed was a "breathing apparatus," the sheriff said, with the hose for the machine resting on the edge of the bed. It was not clear why Scalia needed the machine, but he had a series of health ailments that included sleep apnea."
“Breathing apparatus”+”sleep apnea”=CPAP machine.
“ Tickets are $300. I'm going. November 7.”
The way it works is they take your $300 and pay three other people to go.
while they very often prosecuted Trump and his allies for made up shit - that very often wouldn’t survive appeal on Due Process grounds, because the interpretations of the laws they used were novel (and very often wrong), and because of that the defendants were not on proper notice that what they had done was criminal.
…see for us laymen that seems a pretty clear cut example of bad lawyering. Somebody just wasn’t paying attention in class and as a result wasted everyone’s time, money, and energy. You’d think lawyers would jump all over that so their entire profession wasn’t tainted with the shit they tried to pull…can’t hate the profession enough…

(A lot of stuff in response to Jaq"
Other than these minor corrections, Jaq was right.
Another correction: Big Tish is NOT above the law. Now lefties have two actual indictments to compare to the hundreds of charges leveled at Trump and his associates. So if you are keeping score: Lawfare 473 Revenge Tour 2
Witch hunts, warlock trials, a baby when she's a "burden".
The old "Republicans pounce" routine.
Thank you for the correction.
I don't see how the statute of limitations applies when illicit activity continues unabated. Never corrected, never withdrawn, never apologized for.
The way to stop the cycle of retribution is to keep defeating the Democrats in elections until they get it out of their system.
It isn't revenge rather an accounting. In order for this country to go on the books must be balanced. Comey has to serve time. We, the people, need to know that there is equal justice under the law.
