"Trump’s federal takeover of Washington ends today, after a 30-day period.... For Trump, the job is done."

"The capital city is now safe, so he says, his experiment a runaway success. He proved it by driving a single block in his motorcade last night for a dinner at Joe’s Seafood, Prime Steak & Stone Crab, the ultra-traditional dining room on 15th and H. 'I wouldn’t have done this three months ago, four months ago,' Trump told the press pack outside. 'This was one of the most unsafe cities in the country. Now it’s as safe as there is.'... A group of women inside the restaurant filmed themselves shouting at the president — 'Free D.C., Free Palestine, Trump is the Hitler of our time' — and were swiftly ejected by the Secret Service. And the Google rating for poor old Joe’s is plummeting fast, thanks to a sudden and mysterious blitz of one-star reviews.... Trump and the GOP plan to keep hammering away hard on law and order, keeping the horrific murder of refugee Iryna Zarutska in Charlotte front and center of their campaign...."

From the Politico "Playbook": "Donald dines out."

The dinner disrupters:
Watch how Trump stands and smiles, taking the abuse for awhile, then waves his finger in a subtle get-'em-outta-here message. Seconds later, he flashes angry and orders "Come on, let's go." I imagine people around him learn to jump at the subtle gesture so they won't have to endure the swiftly approaching rage. All 3 stages are, I believe, political theater: 1. the patient smile, 2. the subtle finger wave, 3. The sharp, angry order. I don't think he was happy, then disapproving, then rageful. It's a routine and he's in control. That's where I place my bet.

Bowser extended it to November. Politico is a little behind the actual news, unexpectedly.

Apparently there’s more work to be done in DC, or so Politico intimates.

Say more about this, if you would - it doesn't seem this way to me (to me, it seems that the NG stunt - I see it as a stunt since it is necessarily time-limited - is a way for Trump to say, again, "You all keep saying 'we need comprehensive legislation to solve this or that problem,' but look what simple will can accomplish! Now it's up to you"). I'm interested in what you are perceiving.

Howard- seems like?
You're wrong. The deal was for 30 days.

The left: the National Guard is scary

In other news, excerpts from Kamala Harris’s new book reveal that Harris was told her speeches were “too good” and that she should back off a bit on them.

I get the sense that Politico, after weeks of complaining that crime isn't that bad and DC didn't need the help, are now complaining that Trump didn't really make crime better and is looking for an ass-covering exit.

(Yes, the seeming happiness at being heckled is a pose--so what?--but the hand gestures are just a smooth subtlety. Nothing wrong with that. It's what well-oiled machines do.)

It's like having front row seats to the narrative shift.

Careful, Howard, or you might get whiplash.

What the hell is this political theatre? Random seeth-ers allowed in the dining room within striking distance to the President? bull shit. I don’t know enough about Presidential protection but when John Kerry came over to visit his friend at my condo building I had to wait or clear the hall before they moved the asset. Once in a while they’d deliberately seat them or the governor near us at Bristol only because a front guy on the detail was security at our office and knew who we were…

it's a good thing, politico is digital, much like axios, it would make the fish scales chafe,

The Democrats are in a trap and they know it. Trump showed what can be done if you have the political will to do it. When the NG and the federal officers leave D.C. enforcement to the local Demwits, which must happen by the law the media have been trumpeting for the last month, the crime will return to D.C. and Trump will get to point that out relentlessly.

Rather than micro-analyze Trump's every expression, gesture, and word choice, it'd be nice if people would try to judge him by the results of his actions and policies.

BTW, what's stopping Trump from commencing a new 30-day "takeover" if and when DC returns?

Democrat leaders need to make it clear that they are opposed to disruptions in and around private businesses especially when those disruptions are aimed at a President who has survived to attempts at his life. This isn’t theater. This isn’t cute.

The Middle Coast said...

Secret Service took their sweet time. Something doesn’t make sense.

tommyesq said...

Old Left - there is no crime problem in DC
Middle Left - the NG has not reduced crime, and in fact have made DC scary
New Left - NG was all a stunt and crime remained bad throughout.

The self-righteous entitlement of rich white women, aka Code Pink. Who is letting them in to seemingly every Congressional hearing? Who is always telling them the movements of POTUS? These informers and collaborators are a security risk and need to be fired and tried for their crimes. I'm not holding my breath on that one.

I wouldn’t discount Trump “allowing” the people to protest. It shows something to other world leaders. They weren’t arrested for their comments. Just made to leave.

The chant should go "Free D.C., Free Palestine, Trump is the Hitler who should resign" or Free D.C., Free Palestine, Trump is the Hitler not allowed to dine" of similar.

Bowser extended it to November.

Of course she did. Otherwise, it would be a clear "National Guard On" versus "National Guard Off" demonstration of Democrat fecklessness and incompetence.

Wince said...

"'Free D.C., Free Palestine, Trump is the Hitler of our time'"

For comparison, where's the historic footage of the protesters who confronted Adolf Hitler?

Is it an "ultra-traditional dining room" when Democrats or journalists eat there? Or just another restaurant?

Middle Coast: “ Secret Service took their sweet time. Something doesn’t make sense.”

Heckling in and of itself is not a crime. And it can be a distraction for a real attacker. So the USSS generally does not act on mere hecklers. The property owner can make a trespass complaint, preferably thru local cops.

Assuming the TikToker is one of the protestors, they were practically sitting at Trump’s table, to the point that Rubio couldn’t pull out his chair. So the USSS could and did react enough to clear out a reasonable security zone (ie, “not up our asses” - Blackstone vol XIII).

I would imagine that shortly after that, Joe’s management requested the protesters leave, at which time they either complied or got locked up. RR, JSM
