That's a headline in the NYT for a piece by Casey Michael Henry (a writer who's got a novel called "Not Recommended").
Excerpt: "Calls have proliferated for a left-wing parallel to Joe Rogan.... Consider, for instance, Zohran Mamdani’s surprise win in the New York City mayoral primary, which came with the strong support of the young male vote. A key part of Mamdani’s strategy was finding vessels for an uncomplicated message about affordability, including a few men who could be described, and who might describe themselves, as 'himbos.' The candidate was endorsed by Hasan Piker, the leftist pinup, marathon livestreamer and co-founder of a clothing line called Himbo Fitness. Joshua Citarella, a bodybuilding enthusiast and the host of the left-wing show 'Doomscroll,' facilitated a fund-raising panel. The comedian Stavros Halkias, a heterodox Bernie Bro who could be called a 'himbo' of a more freewheeling, bacchanalian variety, filmed an Instagram endorsement. There were times when Mamdani’s praetorian guard of male influencers looked like an Ultimate Fighting Championship undercard or at least the set of 'The Man Show.'"
That's pretty effective in my opinion, but I'm not the audience for it.
By the way, speaking of "praetorian guard," whatever happened to that notion that men were thinking about the Roman Empire all the time? Maybe the trend of noticing it and talking about it has peaked and — as they say about the Roman Empire — declined, but that doesn't mean the men are not still thinking about it.

The Instagram video is great. Everything is free! Wheeeeee! Why didn't anyone think of that beforeeeeeeee?
I'm not nearly gay enough to turn my politics over how hot the staffers are. President Trump is a very tall but tubby senior citizen, yet he has more testosterone than all of Mamdani's "praetorians" combined.
But none of that matters- from tariffs to immigration to crime, Democrats want to do everything except adopt popular policy.

The NYT is calling these Mamdani supporters stupid.
Interesting.
Identity Politics. Why must everyone - according to the left, because that's who is pushing it - 'identify' as something?
His or her beau?
I met one of my new neighbors at a party this summer. His multi-million dollar place on the water is his third home. He has apparently inherited a great deal of wealth, judging from his last name. A very nice person. We were talking about Maine (where he has one of his places) and he mentioned that he graduated from Bowdoin. I said "Oh, like the future mayor of New York." He said "Oh, I didn't know that he went to Bowdoin. I think he's a refreshing change and I'm hoping that he will shake things up." Fortunately we were interrupted and I didn't need to change the subject or tell him what an idiot he is. Lenin was right about the rope.
Also these soyboys have about as much in common with Joe Rogan as I do.
"I saw him! He was lifting weights with the people."
Traditionally, this group was referred to as dumb jocks.
The NYT has rebranded them and gender-crossed them, too. So now they sound like dumb sexually confused jocks.
Calls have proliferated for a left-wing parallel to Joe Rogan
There used to be one! His name was (checks notes) Joe Rogan...!
That greasy little fat guy is a "himbo"? So himbo isn't the male equivalent of a bimbo?
Dumb fat turd in an ugly shirt. What else have they got?
Mamdani is Diblasio repackaged with added extremism and youth culture.
Hasan Piker is probably the biggest leftist streamer out there. Young Turks would be up there though why you would name your channel after a nasty Turkish political party I don't understand.
Piker could be a clothing model and is the son of a Turkish billionaire. Basically the caricature trust fund socialist. He "Ten toes down" supports the Yemen Houthi's.
Piker and Mamdani's schtick would work against the neocon Republican party. It wont work against Trump's working class republican party. The real battle was lost when Trump defeated the entire Republican establishment in 2016. That is why the left is falling apart right now.
I am always interested when male authors get a novel published these days, and imagine my chagrin as I was unable to find any online references, Amazon, Goodreads, nothing, to his purported novel "Not Recommended."
"Veni, vedi, vici" "Owww! Yes Sister Dominique I read Julius Caesar's Campaigns in Gaul. No, Sister I'm not lying. Owww. That ruler hurts..."

Interesting.
They only want the stupid Bernie Bros to stick around anyways.
All the smart Bernie Bro's, i.e. Joe Rogan, are voting for Trump now.
They need ALL the help they can get.
Wow, you mean a NYC mayor that will help the vast majority by making transportation cheaper and an apartment more affordable. Or shifting some of the tax burden to the billionaries and multi-millionaires.
Gosh, that's crazy communism! Who'd vote for that.
If there's one thing the Government shouldn't do, its make life easier for the vast majority of people. That's horrible. Government exists to help the Rich and powerful. Otherwise, its socialism. And we don't want that!
Surely even a left wing "himbo" would find it rather off-putting that Mamdani is apparently unable to bench two plates, not even once... Like, what have you been doing with your life, dude? I was benching that much when I was in 7th grade, and now I'm twice this pipsqueak's age, and my usual routine is 3x10 with almost twice as much weight.
Or shifting some of the tax burden to the billionaries (sic) and multi-millionaires.
If you think this is appropriate, why don't you first tell us what share of the burden is currently borne by said multi-millionaires and billionaires?

Mamdani says he will do that. But there is a reason he gets a lot of financial support from billionaires and it isn't because he promises to raise their taxes.
Communism and Socialism are used by the .0001% as tools in their fight against the 1%.
The 100 or so ultra wealthy men in New York know that Mamdani will favor them and give them control over the slums created when the 10,000 or so entrepreneurs who run the grocery stores and other businesses are crushed in New York.
Back in '85 or thereabouts, I remember a public relations campaign that was pushing a guy named David Leavitt as the Voice of a New Generation. There was a big feature about him in Esquire around then. As a member of Leavitt's generation (late Boomer), I was interested to see what all the fuss was about, so I read the article and he was positing that we were a new Lost Generation. If you're in your early twenties and have a lot of self-regard (yeah, redundant), he seemed compelling. Then he essentially disappeared.
Leavitt had a moderately successful career as a novelist, it appears, but I had to Google him to verify that. I'm guessing many of the dudes carrying water for Mamdani will also be trivia questions in 40 years
Yes, left-wing ideology exploits leverage in service of the elite.
Vote for a guy because fat Cheech likes him?
Surely even a left wing "himbo" would find it rather off-putting that Mamdani is apparently unable to bench two plates, not even once.
I have watched every video I could find of that benchpress and those plates are, at best, 35 lb plates, not 45 lb. So he failed to bench press 115 lb (the bar is 45 lb).
Are there conservative operatives deep within the legacy media and left-wing think tanks? This is so dumb, it has to be sabotage of some sort.
David Leavitt was a terrible short story writer. Mamdani cannot be a multi-millionaire commie because they don't exist; even real aging trust-fund rap artists want to please their source of money, who would never approve of the path he has taken in life without a great deal of stupidity or ulterior motives.
So what is Mamdami really up to? He is a front for his cynical parents and their peer Qatari billionaire jet-setters seeking to bring their slave-owning, wife-beating values with them to NYC under the wing of liberals and leftists so stupid they will fall for lying slogans from a $25,000 empty suit. He's AOC with a dick hidden beneath bespoke Dior.
Ask Bernie Sanders' three mansions.
Does that guy next to him have pearl earrings, Andy Sipowitz hair, and a Jimmy Buffett man-blouse? Because I didn't think that was possible either.
Tina Trent at 10:26 for the win!
Placid? ... Flaccid?
RCoke: Here's my plan for NYC. No more deadbeats living in public housing. Move them to several dispersed remote places and cut off their benefits slowly, as Carter and Gingrich did with their baby-mommies, a program that provided ample job training and childcare support along the way. 80% success rate. Fix up the projects and turn the best into paying middle-class housing and the smaller ones into supportive housing for poor elderly folk who have never been in trouble with the law. Raze what isn't worth salvaging and replace it with housing for middle and lower-income people with jobs who can pay their own rent. We did this in Atlanta, and downtown thrived. Nobody has the right to live in an expensive city for free. Monitor the elderly residents to ensure their gangbanger grandkids are not living off them and to see when they need a higher level of care. They appreciate the government doing this. The city will thrive again. Lose the deadbeats, and divide up those in gangs. By several states, at least. The more dispersed, the better. That was the one mistake Atlanta made.
Women are the new men.
"Neue Männer braucht das Land" was a German song slogan of the Eighties. Now the land has new men, and they aren't the feminized male allies of feminism, but women themselves.
Wow! As expected, Ocean shows up at 9:31 and 9:33 as the lefty lurking behind antisemitism.
Where lives a Rogan among Democrat girly men?
Himbo - drunk, fat, and stupid is no way to go through life.
David Leavitt stole Stephen Spender's life and made a novel out of it. He even plagiarized bits of Spender's autobiography. Spender sued and the novel was suppressed and Leavitt hasn't really been heard from since.
Wikipedia relates:
In "Courage in the Telling: The Critical Rise and Fall of David Leavitt," Drew Patrick Shannon argues that the critical backlash that accompanied Spender's suit "allowed [critics] to reinforce the boundaries between gay and mainstream literature that Leavitt had previously crossed."
