Album recommendation: If you like Fleetwood Mac, then you will probably like the Buckingham Nicks album. It originally came out in November 1973 and was not commercially successful. It was never released on CD and was unavailable on streaming services until September 19th, when Rhino Records did a re-release.
While not a hit album, it was crucial in Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks joining Fleetwood Mac. The band had relocated to Los Angeles from England, and (per Wikipedia) 'shortly after the album's release, Mick Fleetwood, while evaluating recording studios, heard "Frozen Love" played back through studio monitors at Sound City by Keith Olsen. Fleetwood would go on to invite the duo to join his band, Fleetwood Mac, on New Year's Eve 1974.'
You can hear a lot of what Buckingham and Nicks would later bring to Fleetwood Mac on this album. Here is the full album on YouTube. My favorite tracks are probably "Don't Let Me Down Again" and "Crying In the Night."
Just listened to Mel Brooks and his 2000 year old man routines. Still hilarious. Then moved on to stuff more current from the 80s/90s. Sam Kinason - mostly funny if vulgar. Bill Hicks - mostly a miss. Denis Leary - a sort of Irish American Hicks. And Rodney Dangerfield on Carson- always funny.
Marc Maron while a good interviewer was frankly a bore. Not sure what I think of 90s/80s standup. Most of its dated but some funny stuff here and there.
I also note that Rowling herself has said that Hermione's character was the one that wanted to force what was written
I can relate. I write fiction for family enjoyment, and no matter how I carefully plan my story, the character ultimately dictates the plot. By that I mean, as I place the character in certain situations how they ultimately respond feeds from previous actions such that my plot flows from how they grow throughout the experience. The story never ends as I planned.
I've seen stand comics in Las Vegas and frankly didn't enjoy the experience. I noticed most of the audience was laughing loudly - and also hammered. So, maybe thats the trick.
Hey, Clyde… that’s a good pick. I saw Fleetwood Mac on the bill with Little Feat and Dave Mason @LA’s Fabulous Forum in December of 1975.
It had to be hard to continue after the departure of Peter Green years before, but they were still a great live act. I must say the band - with the addition of Nicks and especially Buckingham - just about knocked your socks off. Good Lord, they were so ON it that night. And things only got better. That’s a great memory for this old couple.
A version of the Buckingham Nicks album has been available from Japan for a while. I got it several years ago. It has 21 tracks, including live versions of some songs. As I recall it cost about $50.
I'm happy to report that I more or less have an ankle again! But the bruising, especially all around and under my foot for some reason*, is psychedelic, all the way up to mid-thigh. Makes taking off and putting on the compression stockings when I wash them an adventure.
* I assume this had something to do with how my leg was immobilized for the MAKO robot.
The Buckingham Nicks album was one of my first albums. I was into music and Hi-Fi long before that, but it took a while for me to get album money happening. Loved that album, great songs, but the sound recording has always seemed to have too much treble, and you can't really adjust for it. Still, great songs.
Searles. He has a long series of good classes online. In print, he tended to miss the point of stuff, one on Austin, whose worry was that somebody would try to calculate morality from statements so he showed how little of language was declarative statements; without particularly being worried about performatives themselves. Second on Derrida (Signature Event Context) where he was never even in the same game. Derrida made the same mistake about Austin (Cavell: What Did Derrida Want from Austin?)
Seeing comics in Las Vegas is a little like seeing a Comedy in a movie theater. You sit there, watching the act or the movie, groaning (silently) at the rat-a-tat "Jokes" while the people around you have tears rolling down there faces. She said "vagina" LOLLOLLOL. He attacks Trump/religion hahahahaha.
Im shocked that some standup comic hasn't learned to fart on stage, because that has them rolling in the movie theater aisles.
Whiskey Pete is assembling the 800 highest-ranked command-grade military officers this week for some mysterious meeting at the Marines' base in Quantico, VA.
Surely he hasn't forgotten Tehran's threat to retaliate against the U.S for bombings of Iran's nuclear sites. So Pete should designate someone as the Surviving Officer in Charge.
During World War II, Congress commissioned the construction of an underground shelter at the Greenbrier resort in West Virginia to house the entire U.S. Congress in case of a nuclear attack. It is still there, but there are no military units close at hand, and our drunk SecDef wouldn't know anything about White Sulfur Springs anyway.
40 years ago, my brother called me and asked me if I wanted to go to a Stevie Nicks concert at a local venue that night, I said not really, why? He replied “Do you have any idea how many young women will be there?” We went, and he was correct, and a good time was had by all.
Now here is a real class act. A real "christian in action" and a stain on a once revered office. This fella is definitely losing his marbles and looks like a buffoon. Trump Posts AI Video Mocking Schumer, Jeffries: ‘Woke Pieces of S***’ U.S. President Donald Trump posted an artificial intelligence (AI) video on his social media page mocking Democrats and their popularity while also underscoring a Republican attack line that Democrats will shut down the government if they can’t secure free health care for illegal immigrants. The U.S. is on the brink of a government shutdown after high-stakes negotiations at the White House between Trump and congressional leaders ended in a stalemate. The funding crisis, largely centered on health care policy disputes, threatens widespread disruption to federal operations and could put the income and benefits of thousands of government workers and services at risk. To avoid a government shutdown, a deal would need to be struck by Wednesday. The AI video that Trump posted shows Senate Democratic Minority Leader Chuck Schumer talking at a podium with House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, shown wearing a sombrero, standing next to him. “Look guys, there’s no way to sugarcoat it, nobody likes Democrats anymore,” the digitally altered Schumer says. “We have no votes left because of all of our woke, trans bulls***. Not even Black people want to vote for us anymore, even Latinos hate us, so we need new voters, and if we give all these illegal aliens free health care, we might be able to get them on our side so they can vote for us.” “They can't even speak English so they won’t realize we’re just a bunch of woke pieces of s***, you know, at least for a while until they learn English and they realize they hate us too,” the fake Schumer says. The funding crisis is largely centered on health care policy disputes but the Democrats say undocumented immigrants are not eligible to enroll in federally funded health coverage under existing law or under their Democrats’ funding proposals. The real Schumer responded to Trump's post with his own social media comment, saying on X: "If you think your shutdown is a joke, it just proves what we all know: You can’t negotiate. You can only throw tantrums."
Vice President JD Vance said Monday that he thinks the government is headed for a shutdown because "Democrats won't do the right thing" after Trump met Democratic Party leaders at the White House. Schumer said after the meeting: “There are still large differences between us." trump is a very sick individual and now with AI he has gone looney. MED BEDS ,even grows limbs back, WTF somebody get this fella on meds and hide the biscuit and football. NEXT UP PARDON MAXWELL, GET 20 BILLION to his pal in Argentina get that UFC schedule and tickets for sale at WH. THIS IS WHAT MAGAS WANTED trump everyday!!! and trump now going to the "how to be a man" meeting with top 800 military people to be school by the FOX guy. Now that's a brilliant idea ,they forgot to have Vance go to so they are all in one spot. What a group and they tell you when and where they'll be and who is going! Very Strategic!

Was that Stevie Nicks on SNL the other night, or just some crazy dream I had?
RH Hardin - you often post philosophical thoughts. Do you have any thoughts on John Searles who died on 9/17?
Angry, political Stevie Nicks. She didn't look that different from 50 years ago, but there were no close-ups.

Presidential Material.
The dems demand Billions for free health care for ILLAGALS.

Further updates as events warrant, for the benefit of those who have not yet had a joint replaced but are curious about the prices.
Sigh. The PROCESS.

Searles was famous for the Chinese Room.
Favorite Austin: Three Ways of Spilling Ink.
Why should we pay for ill Eagles. They made enough money off me over the years. I heard the new shows are recorded anyway.

Those Philly fans are a surely lot, too.
Headline? "Blonde Swedish girls recruited to commit murders."
Pure genius. I wouldn't stand a chance. I feel so very vulnerable right now.
Antifa Democrat Brownshit in action. Why the mask - bro?
Stay positive Jamie, and keep on the mend !
Say her name!
Except the democrats can't, apparently...

I laughed more at this WC Fields bit ( 5 minutes) than in 40 minutes of Bill Hicks or Denis Leary. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wE_2uqCc_K4
But then, I have no sense of humor.
