Awesome all-nighter last night with the 12.5" telescope at a dark site. Spent a lot of time in Cepheus and Auriga. Finished off the night with everybody's favorite, the Orion Nebula.

Scott Adams just did an extra podcast with live guests Greg Gutfeld and Dr Drew in his house. The 3-guy in-group in high school that doesn't associate with anybody else, they speculated. Youtube.

The constellations in the northern sky have been filmed many times, so staring through a telescope instead of sleeping makes no sense to me, and telescoping was nothing that I was interested in as a hobby. The pictures are available from large devices, including the James Webb Space Telescope at Palo Alto.

This is the case in numerous blue cities. Maybe Republicans should just run as Democrats or rename themselves "The Resistance Party". There have to be some reasonably intelligent Democrats somewhere in a bomb shelter with Pop Tarts and herbal tea running low.

Robert Redford died earlier this month. We all know his most famous movies. But to remember him I wanted to watch one of his movies I had never seen before. So tonight I watched All Is Lost. It's kind of like Earnest Hemingway's "The Old Man and the Sea," but with a modern sailboat and no fish. It was great. For some reason I really like these "man against nature" survivalist movies. I think it's because I put myself in their situation and wonder what I would do. It's part of your Amazon Prime subscription for the next 2 days if you are interested. I highly recommend it.

Constellations: see The Stars, a new way to see them, by H.A.Rey. Best outlines ever, copyrighted so you don't see them a lot. Very old book now. I use one to support a mouse pad slanted in a desk fly top side drawer.

OMG, LOL!

https://www.forbes.com/sites/zacharyfolk/2025/09/28/trump-deletes-post-referencing-bizarre-medbed-conspiracy-theory/

“President Donald Trump shared and then deleted a seemingly AI-generated video in which he was seen promising Americans access to “medbeds,” a fictional technology popular with some far-right conspiracy theorists who believe they secretly exist and hold miracle cures for every illness.

WHAT DO “MEDBED” CONSPIRACY THEORISTS BELIEVE?

Proponents of the “medbed” conspiracy theory believe the government is hiding advanced healing technology to treat a variety of illnesses or diseases—a claim that has appealed to people suffering from chronic pain, The New York Times reported.”

Horrendous attack on a Latter Day Saints (aka Mormon) church in Grand Blanc, MI. Details are stil a bit sketchy, but at a news conference, Chief of Police William Renye said the suspect was identified as a 40-year-old male from Burton, Michigan, named Thomas Jacob Sanford. He drove his SUV through the doors of the church and began shooting as he exited the vehicle. At least two police officers engaged Sanford and succeeded in killing him, but not before he set fire to the church building, which has since burned to the ground.

Two parishioners are confirmed dead, eight are in the hospital. One of the eight is described as being in critical condition, the others are described as being stable. There is speculation that more bodies will be discovered when it is safe to reenter the building.

I’m not going to speculate on Stanford’s motives, but the pattern of attacks on churches go way beyond senseless.

Sadly, two more dead were found, these two may have succumbed to the fire, the Chief said these two were not shot.

Does anyone besides me and her parents remember Secoriea Turner? She was an eight year old girl killed when her mother drove into the parking lot of the Wendy’s where Rayshard Brooks had been killed, not realizing that armed BLM thugs had declared the log to be “their” turf. The BLm thugs drove off the family with gunfire, and s round struck little Secoria, killing her.

Last Friday her killer was sentenced to life in prison, a mere five years and almost three months after little Secoria was murdered. What sent a chill up my back was a report that her killer still doesn’t think he did anything wrong.

Black Lives Matter to lefties, except for an eight year old black girl killed in black on black crime.

In an actual (not AI-generated) interview, Kamala Harris claims without evidence that babies were "crowd-surfed" through large gatherings at her speaking events.

https://youtu.be/oRSLSzu4dD8?feature=shared&t=2451s

"Invariably somebody would want me to take a picture or to hug their child. And someone in the back would hand that baby over through the crowd! ... I could get very emotional about it right now. But I believe that we should always feel that the children of the community are the children of the community. There was something so magical in many ways about that."

The top photo is special!

There’s an Instagram account officialrikashay performing all The Beatles songs alphabetically - one per day. An exceptional undertaking and their performances are faithful in every way. Today’s was Sexy Sadie; a revengeful Lennon tune which skewers the hypocrisy of their Maharishi (the original title and lyric before the lawyers got involved. lol)

Someone here--perhaps several someones--recommended Orlando Figes book "Natasha's Dance: A Cultural History of Russia."

I picked it up at the library the other day and do not regret it. It's excellent.

Thanks are due, so thanks someone(s).

Watching this movie "The African Queen" with big time movie stars Bogart and Hepburn.
Pretty good. Anyway, implied sex, with virginal Hepburn blissful next morning.
Brought to mind another Hepburn movie with same circumstance where she lost her virginity to Burt Lancaster.
The Rainmaker. Pretty good.
Was this a common thing in Hepburn movies?

@bagoh2o: So how do the same culprits keep getting reelected?

Inertia, plus "I'll scratch your back if you scratch mine" deals between politicians and local interest groups are hard to fight. People make only a handful of life decisions, such as college, marriage, children, HOMEOWNERSHIP, divorce, and retirement. Once they get to children and homeownership they don't want anything to change. Boxed in. Need security and predictability.

Politics and ideologies involve abstract ideals that are largely set by age 25. They are then back-burnered unless things get really dysfunctional (i.e., 2016 Trump; 2024 Democrat defectors). Businesses with long-term employees get similarly locked up, petty, and resistant to even superficial changes.

Portlanders and other blue city residents who live in the suburbs may never go downtown or encounter the problems. So, 75% of any city is "fine."

I have married nieces with minor-aged children who live on the east side of Portland. They are fierce defenders of the city and are appalled that Trump is sending “storm troopers” to their safe, peaceful community.

Never mind that they’ve had their cars broken into while parked in front of their homes and recently found bullet holes in their mini-van.

Communists settle into a comfort zone. All they need is their Trump hate. What's a few bullet holes and stolen cars and.
I overheard a man talking to his mother about life in Denver. He said formerly secure parking garages were not safe anymore. mentioned 2 women being assaulted inside "secure" (you pay extra) Denver apt building parking garages.
Life under blue rule.
