"'It’s Joe and Jill’s decision.' We all said that, like a mantra, as if we’d all been hypnotized."

"Was it grace, or was it recklessness? In retrospect, I think it was recklessness. The stakes were simply too high. This wasn’t a choice that should have been left to an individual’s ego, an individual’s ambition. It should have been more than a personal decision."

Kamala Harris writes, quoted in "Harris admits Biden 'got tired,' denies 'conspiracy' to hide mental decline/'107 Days' reveals Harris felt unsupported by Biden staff on foreign policy and immigration issues" (Fox News).

How could it be recklessness? Everyone — "we all" — adopted a stock phrase to protect their own political interests and to avoid responsibility for depriving the country of a legitimate primary process and to foist her on us.

I guess it means something that she's calling herself and her confederates reckless. It is bad to be reckless, so she's admitting fault. It's just not believable that the fault was in carelessly disregarding the risks. It was coldly deliberate, and it would have been brilliant, I'm sure they all thought, if it had worked, and she'd won.

It's random anyway. The media, women voters. You might as well be reckless.

Not positioned for success. Oh dear oh dear. The oligarchs have to be wondering how on earth they gave this talentless jez 1.7 billion dollars, and what it will end up costing them.

The D-Mafia controls both Kamala and Biden.
Book filled with fake blame. Perfect for the MSNBC watching crowd.
kamala didn't have the nerve to break free.
True believer or willing cog? does it matter?

Some of the smartest people I know, people who normally make very good decisions about most everything, voted for Kamala. It's unbelievable, but if they had it to do over again, they still would.
It seems like the smarter and more educated people are the most vulnerable to the propaganda methods currently in use.

I get the sense that they will happily do it again. Remember there rationale was because the rules, their rules, gave them permission to do it.

Joe's circle kept things as they were because they could do stuff without him knowing about it.

The real lesson here is that these people thought more about their own political power rather than their duty to the country and its national security.

…they still believed they controlled the narrative. They still believe it. Either that or that have nowhere else to go, to which I’d assign a non-zero probability.

If Harris admitted to being read in on Biden's ejection from the nomination then the next logical question would be why she didn't invoke the 25th Amendment.

Oh Yea said...

Forget the primary. As VP, Harris failed to execute a principal constitutional duty of her office:

Twenty-fifth Amendment (Amendment XXV) to the United States Constitution, Section 4. Whenever the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive departments or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall immediately assume the powers and duties of the office as Acting President.

That was not laughing Kammie’s fault.

Althouse writes, "I guess it means something that she's calling her and her confederates reckless."

Her or herself? Does her stand for Jill Biden or Harris? Both have been pretty damned reckless. (e.g. A billion raised and a billion point three spent in 107 days.)

I mean if you were paying attention you could see it. From the he did what he needed to do SOTU to the early Summer panic at the internal numbers they they honestly believed they could Weekend At Bernie’s him across the line while lawfareing then Kennedying his opponent. It was a miscalculation with grave consequences…for them…

Is she the frontrunner for their VP slot again?

For this to be true she would have to admit she wasn’t ready to be president. If there is any equivocation, it means she’s buck passing.

"Conspiracy" is either incredibly hard or laughably easy to prove. It's hard if actual meetings and formal, definitive orders are required. But if everyone somehow ends up on the same page acting in accord with the same agenda, then there is a "conspiracy" of sorts going on, even if there wasn't a meeting or formal instructions.

It's interesting that Harris uses the word "hypnotized." That conveys something of how people come to agree on a strategy without either formulating it together or being explicitly ordered to adopt it. Another metaphor is how schools of fish or flocks of birds all suddenly dart off in a new direction.

People pick up on the signs and follow their leaders without consciously formulating what they are doing explicitly. There probably were meetings and memos, though. Harris probably didn't get the memos but fell into line with the chatter and activity around her.

"Harris felt unsupported by Biden staff..."

Since when are feelings news, and when did we replace opinions with feelz? I expect craptastic journalism from the NYT and WaPo, where everyone is a 14-year-old girl with issues, but Fox, the only source with visible adult men?

Kamala the Incompetent - at that point what difference did it make? - they thought. "They" - I have no idea who "they" were. The staff was running everything on behalf of "they" unless they (the staff) were "they." Someday we'll have some names and then "everyone" will say "everyone" knew who "they" were. Well, I assert ignorance right now. I don't know who "they" were and I hope I find out by "they/them" being prosecuted.

Oh, she got 'em, alright. And they went straight from her inbox into the cylindrical file unread. Harris was the laziest human to ever hold the office. She couldn't even flip burgers with sufficient enthusiasm.

The reason Harris went along with the "their decision" mantra is that she counted on taking over from Biden after the election during his second term without the need to face a primary and general election, which she would undoubtedly lose.

DEI hires are all horrible. I am super happy that the left are finding that out.
Sadly, horrifically - Now -> innocent women are paying with their lives for the left's racism and promotion of people based on how incredibly incompetent, inept and unqualified they are.

Got? He entered office “tired.” Also corrupt. And “sharp as a tack”? As “sharp” as he was there’s no bulletin board he’d have stuck in.

denies 'conspiracy' to hide mental decline.”

Nooooo. Not Democrats. No way! /sarc

I'm sure Biden also regrets selecting Harris as his VP. The truth is they deserved each other, and they both deserve to be linked with each other in history.

It would have required an incredibly difficult balancing act for Harris to really step out of Biden's shadow in August 2024 and create some separation, but she can't really blame Biden for her inability to answer the simple question "how would you be different?". Acknowledging the successes and failures of the Biden presidency would have been a start (along with a credible pledge to rectify the failures). A change in the highly unpopular stance on Israel-Gaza would also have been absolutely necessary (something Harris was never willing to undertake). Additionally, Harris's "pivot" on immigration and attempt to outflank Trump on the hardline and her open embrace of Liz Cheney, is something that almost certainly cost her more votes than it gained her.

Harris's issue is actually a re-occurring problem for many Democratic candidates and many Republicans as well -- especially in the current generation of major party candidates. They don't really know what their policy program and political commitments are, because they are not really motivated by any deep commitment to the public good. Their primary motivation is personal ambition and a desire to add another professional title to their resume.

These candidates have to wait weeks and months until their advisors and political consultants have consulted with their major donors and packaged a message that is acceptable to the donors. This process creates a real inefficiency in terms of messaging and it makes the candidates look like soulless frauds. This unfavorable contrast is especially apparent when soulless frauds are matched up against a really skilled serial liar like Trump, who at least knows how to put on a show.

Trump is reckless every day, so why is Kamala's comment important but ignoring Trump's unlawful activites never a part of Althouse's comments?

narciso said...

had she won, she would be a placeholder like Sheinbaum, that allows the river of blood, rise higher in Mexico's far flung provinces,

Kakistocracy said...

@ gadfly: Following the 2016 election there was no accountability within the Democrat party other than to blame the voters. The same is true after pretty much every election cycle that the party loses. The total absence of accountability within the party organization is a major reason that we have had two Trump terms.

Kakistocracy said...

The problems with Biden's mental acuity were pretty obvious as well during the 2020 primary. The more time he spent in front of voters in Iowa and New Hamsphire, the more his campaign sunk. What really saved Biden's candidacy was the massive and unprecedented coordination by the party leadership and friendly media in the weeks around the South Carolina primary and Super Tuesday, which helped to gift Biden the party nomination. The impact of COVID-19 on the campaign and the excuse that it provided to run a virtual campaign, helped to carry Biden through the general election.

Skeptical Voter said...

Some might call Kamala Harris an ungrateful whelp, who was also massively incompetent. And they wouldn't be wrong.

Steve said...

Yet another example of how she and many others hid Biden's decline so they could keep riding the gravy train on the power trip. If Biden had announced in his inaugural speech that he would not seek re-election things would be very different now.

Ampersand said...

Kamala had to know that Biden would not make it through a second term, and that this was the easiest path to the presidency for her. The logic was solid. If Joe hadn't self-destructed at the debate, the media would have moved heaven and earth to drag his sorry husk over the finish line.
