"From what I understand about the cat, it was one of his best... [It] took a love bite and happened to catch the wrong spot.... It was almost an act of God — some unforeseen thing."

Said the father of Ryan Easley, quoted in "Tiger Handler Linked to Joe Exotic Is Fatally Mauled by Tiger/Ryan Easley, 37, was performing at his family-run private zoo in Hugo, Okla., when a tiger attacked him, the authorities said. He was pronounced dead at the scene" (NYT).

Joe Exotic commented: "No one can blame the tiger for what happened. We all take risk in what we do and we don’t need further laws to ban tigers because of this because you can get killed doing just about anything."

I can agree with Joe Exotic about the tiger. But if someone that works for you dies from being mauled by a tiger, and they are the victim and the tiger is not to blame, then you might consider who will get blamed?

Big cats do not belong in cages. it's very cruel.
i say that about zoos - too.

I blame people hanging out with tigers

"you can get killed doing just about anything." Especially if you are doing it with a tiger. But I do agree with him.

Mr. Frog: "Why did you sting me!"

Scorpion: "I couldn't help myself. It is my nature."

Yes, it’s true that almost anything can kill or injure you. My granddaughter was jogging at dusk (bad idea!)last evening and a bat actually flew into her face hitting her eye. Now she’s getting the Rabies protocol.

When tigers are outlawed, only outlaws will have tigers.

Yeah well, I'm sure the Tiger didn't mean to kill him, but that's what happened. You're betting that the Tiger isn't going to forget and bite too hard, or not get annoyed and take a swat at you. Bites and swipes that would just irritate another tiger or cause a minor wound can kill us.

Our house cat sometimes forgets when she plays with us, and she bites too hard. But she's 12 lbs not 350.

Meanwhile, the occasional child gets mauled by the occasional pit bull.

Inga's the one who needs the rabies protocol. Rabid leftist.

RideSpaceMountain said...

tcrosse...how dare you. I'll have you know that:

- 25% of pitbulls will never attack anyone
- 45% of pitbulls will never maul anyone
- 25% of pitbulls never viciously attack other dogs
- 5% of pitbulls owned by women can be handled by them
- 15% of pitbulls are never abandoned by their owners in all kinds of public spaces because they got themselves into too much dog

How can you use the word 'occasional' when talking about such angels!?!

That was not very civil of the tiger. Perhaps some humans have exotic expectations of what animals will do.

Billable hours will be generated. All else is subject to chance.

Well played, bob!

I blame the gun... the knife... the cat's paw.

I’ve done lots of stupid things in life but none involved tigers. So I got that going for me…

LOL- Bob. Indeed.

Exotic bullshit.

’…a bat actually flew into her face hitting her eye.’

Yikes!! Is the rabies protocol as awful as it was years ago?

If I had a dog who accidentally killed someone with a bite, the dog would be put down. Shouldn't be different just because it is a tiger.

Bob Boyd said...

If you expose yourself to a perfect killing machine and get killed, don’t punish the killing machine. The responsible party has already paid the price.

Bob Boyd said...

I would argue a dog is different than a tiger.
Dogs live in the world with us. They’re commonplace domesticated animals and people have an expectation that they will be tame and won’t bite. If they are dangerous dogs for whatever reason, people expect they will be confined and properly restrained and that there will be warnings.
There are no such expectations for tigers. No sane person takes it for granted that a tiger will be friendly and harmless.

It's statistics I read on the internet! They must be true!

It was a Chimpanzee, not a monkey. As a fellow ape, I'm offended.
