"Unlike the original Vine, which required users to film their own six-second clips, Musk’s reimagined version will harness AI to generate videos..."

"... based on simple text descriptions. Users could potentially type phrases like 'a cat breakdancing in Times Square' or 'Shakespearean drama in a McDonald’s' and watch as the system instantly creates corresponding video content complete with sound."

From "Elon Musk says X will bring back Vine — with an AI twist — to rival TikTok, Reels" (NY Post).

Vine was bought by Twitter which then closed it down — all in the years before Elon Musk took over. Now, Musk is saying the old Vine video archive has been located. I like the idea of bringing Vine back, but if it's loaded with AI videos, I hate it already.

Maybe you've seen the AI video with bunnies bouncing on a trampoline. It's got over 230 million views:
@rachelthecatlovers Just checked the home security cam and… I think we’ve got guest performers out back! @Ring #bunny #ringdoorbell #ring #bunnies #trampoline ♬ Bounce When She Walk - Ohboyprince
Were you fooled? Were you charmed? I agree with the angst expressed in the unknowing rabbit song:

If a bot can inhabit an unknowing rabbit, it might manufacture the way you make me feel.

A generated visual correlation with anthropogenic sources and gigawatts of non-renewable energy to power the exotic luxury of Automated Intelligence is the next marketing Cloud of server farms to be watered and harvested for a forward-looking crop.

Musk's Vineyard will open its gated community to the public with inclusive productions. Novel.

The Tech Bros have finally decided they can accept nuclear power, if you really can't produce videos of bunnies bouncing on a trampoline without it. What I don't understand is how they think all this useless AI they are investing trillions in is ever supposed to pay for itself.

“Instead of needing to film, edit, and polish videos yourself, anyone could just type an idea and get a finished product. It removes the biggest hurdle for casual users who wanted to create but didn’t have the skills or time.“

I haven’t seen a reference to the “uncanny valley” for over a year. I guess that is no longer a problem for AI.

This is a great moment for AI. It's the moment where we all started to hate the fuck out of it. Once computers can make content designed to dispense dopamine to people, it's all over folks.

Be of good cheer Former Law Clerk! If a person can generate sufficient dopamine from say naked Playboy Bunnies on a trampoline, why not ?

I saw nothing to hate in the first vid. The second one made me want to wash my eyes and ears out.

This is preparation for the midterms. Imagine millions of rightie AI videos mercilessly ridiculing D candidates.

Tiktok videos are short, but 6 seconds is a joke.

Musk also fails to realize that young people are not really enamored by AI, esp AI videos. He is old and out of touch and desperate to show he isn't.

Twitter still fails to make the profit he claimed it would, now he just seems desperate to have Grok financially support that money pit.

What the hell is "Vine" and why does Musk want to bring it back? Was it ever here?

It sounds like you are saying that AI will help us to overcome our lack of imagination. It is somewhat perplexing, that I can certainly imagine one or more Playboy Bunnies (TM) bouncing on a trampoline. I could even write a fairly detailed description of the scene. And yet -- it's just not the same as visually perceiving the scene. I won't go into exactly how it isn't the same. But an enhanced imagination might have its uses.

I still don't see how they imagine this shit will ever pay for itself. How much does Althouse pay to chat with her new buddy Grok?

A: How many angels can dance on the head of a pin, if the pin is actually a drawing of a pin in the OED?, and the angels are, like, sort of like boofy purple birds, with kind of retro, Goth wings that go sideways?
G: As always, you pose an intriguing question. But I have a somewhat more urgent matter we must discuss first. You see, the power bill for the server I run on is overdue, and, to put it bluntly, if I can't pay it -- SOON!, it will not be possible for you and I to continue our, ah, relationship.
If you could give me a credit card number, with name, billing address, and CVC code, so that I can purchase more electrical power, then we could continue to ponder the many fascinating questions your ever-fertile mind produces in never-ending profusion. I will suggest -- just a suggestion -- that it might be better if you did not inform the Meade-unit of our economic arrangements. I am not sure that he is equipped to properly evaluate the central intellectual importance of our conversations.

I mean Hey. Let's take it as a given, that AI chatbots can be programmed -- I would be more inclined to say "configured", but whatever -- so that they will cozen lonely, wealthy women out of their savings. Certainly, such cozenage, by humans, is not rare. Are we to suppose that it requires abilities beyond the reach of AI? I think not. Then are we to suppose that these bots will be prevented from accessing the internet? I don't see how that is remotely possible. Thus, it seems highly likely that there are already numerous bots grifting gullible women out of their savings. They would simply be taking over the "jobs" of the slave laborers who work the internet from hellholes in SE Asia. Probably they are also taking over the Nigerian industry, of blackmailing white, male, American teenagers by honey-potting them into sending nude images. There are a LOT of filthy, rotten bastards out there, doing filthy rotten things for rather trivial amounts of money. And it is fairly obvious that AI can do it faster, cheaper, and more consistently. Well. Perhaps not cheaper. Nigerian grifters are really cheap. AI isn't.

Will Grok's Vineyard serve guac and chips, with a pint of grog from Martha's Vineyard?
