The effeminate European government Beta fears the Chad American entrepreneurial underdog. Merz might have better luck with Von Der 'Layen'...who, incidentally, was kicked out of the Trump meeting with EU leaders.

Trump = stud

I confess, I had no idea who Merz was. He's the new Chancellor of Germany.

Pretty funny to see germans making eyes at the Italians, only for the Italians to ignore them and go with that hot new American boy.

Also: Wasn't it Italy that had the press that was openly mocking Joe Biden, even putting on skits with a stand in Joe who kept falling down or something? Like the kind of stuff SNL used to do decades ago? I wonder how much they are mocking Trump seducing their prime minister?

If Jutta Leerdam showed up she would not be kicked out for not being a leader…

Did anyone else think that clip of Merz looked like AI?

She does the best eyerolls of any current leader! Her expression while the German guy droned on the other day was priceless. I have a soft spot for her especially because she was the only "leader" compassionate enough to actually go fetch our "leader" and lead him back to the group he was supposed to be with when he needed help. She was very kind. One can't help but see she admires Trump and is repelled by the sissy men of Europe (yes I'm including England).

I never would have dreamed that at any time during my life the best governed large country in Europe would be Italy.

Merz is the first German chancellor in decades who has children.

Ride Space Mountain; Seems original reporting was in error due to trusting unamed 3rd party "insider".
"Important clarification. In my initial comment, I was relying on incorrect reports. It is now clear that this is not true. Von der Leyen was there the whole time – and so were all EU member states that were not represented in Washington. Good and right."
From an X in German but translation.

While Melania is rumored to be charmed by Trudeau, Meloni only has eyes for Trump.

Everyone is noticing that merz looked like a cunt.

The Meloni eye roll has been viral since the event.

Looking forward to AFD putting an end to German warmongering.

Seems silly. I like mocking the Germans as much as anyone, and I like Giorgia Meloni quite a lot, but if you watch the video with the sound off and ignore the animations, it's a lot more neutral. How long were they sitting there? An hour? More? How hard is it to stitch together a few five second clips to tell a completely misleading story? Meh.

So is this serious or parody? Or both?

Scholz had no kids. Neither did Merkel. Schroeder had 2.
And 5 wives! 5! I didn't know he was such a chick magnet.

What's your point here?

It's a trash video from a trash site.

Maybe she was and maybe she wasn't, and if she was, she should've been.

re Amadeus 48 Yes, astonishing. Though certainly part of it has not been simply the increase in Italian competence, but the substantial decline in the connection with reality of the German, French, English and other leaders starting with Angela Merkel.

“the substantial decline in the connection with reality of the German, French, English and other leaders starting with Angela Merkel.”
Is that because of the devastating effect WW2 had on their psyches? This would be the post WW2 generation of European leaders. Merkel was born in 1954.

Eva Marie said...

Merz was born in 55 and Macron and Meloni in 77 and Starmer in the early 60s. I wonder how much their generational experiences affect them. (Trump in 46)

Misleading is what we do now for fun. And that Meloni clip was fun. Like the late night clowns, but this is for everyone. I also liked the winning clip. Some great pop culture references. I would think filmmakers, maybe someone like Tarantino, admire some of the media that Trump's people create.

RCOCEAN II said...

Its all rather amusing to portray this as a HS behavior, but Meloni has substantive disagreements with Fred Mertz over Ukraine. She's much less hawkish, and as expressed reservations over sending NATO troops or binding security guarantees.

Besides, no one seems to like Fred Mertz, even the German voters have soured on him. And of course, the stereotypical Italian dislike of the Germans, no doubt plays a part.

Memories of post-war austerity (more second- than first-hand) may have marked Merz and Starmer, but not Macron and Meloni, but it may not so much be WWII as the end of the Cold War that distinguishes the leaders. For Merz and Starmer, the Cold War was part of their adult experience. For Macron and Meloni, it wasn't.

Also, Merz and Starmer came out of the old post-WWII two party system -- one Conservative/Christian Democrat/Gaullist party and one Labour/Social Democratic party. Macron comes from the breakdown of that system. In a way, he was the breakdown of the system. It's similar with Meloni, though Italian politics were different from the general European model.

stereotypical Italian dislike of the Germans

And vice versa. I heard German veterans of WWII disparage the Italians and praise the Finns. And they mistook my accent for Finnish :) Not sure what that says about my English.

narciso said...

no just rebranding Macron came out of the Socialist party, that was in bad odor after Bataclan, so En Marche, of course he has a party to the left, the old communist headed by Melenchon, Meloni comes from a genuine splinter party that was part of the Berlusconi Salvini coaliton,

Merz seems to be very much in the Merkel vein meaning having learned nothing since 2015,

On BlueSky earlier today the talking points had gone out: Merloni thinks Trump smells bad. Why you can tell from her eyes and hair tossing!

Did he fart multiple times? Did he shit his diaper? (Always popular on BS) Maybe he forgot to bathe?

Dozens of posts on this theme.

Thos folks were apparently watching a different movie.

You know what the fellow said—in Italy, for thirty years under the Borgias, they had warfare, terror, murder, and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and the Renaissance. In Switzerland, they had brotherly love, and they had 500 years of democracy and peace. And what did that produce? The cuckoo clock.

I was suprised to learn the Italians don't like the French either. Its typical europe, they always hate their powerful neighbors and have contempt for the less powerful ones.

RideSpaceMountain said...

Europe was, is, and always will be a fundamentally class-based society. We're talking about a region with 1,500 uninterrupted years of government of, by, and for titled feudal nobility. That's one hell of a habit to kick, and anybody tired of that bs left long ago.
