"Mr. Borg Hoiby was 4 years old when his mother, Mette-Marit Tjessem Hoiby, a former waitress, married Crown Prince Haakon, the heir to the Norwegian throne, in 2001."

"Crown Princess Mette-Marit’s other children, Princess Ingrid Alexandra and Prince Sverre Magnus, are second and third in line to succeed their grandfather, King Harald V, 88. Mr. Borg Hoiby holds no title or official duties."

From "Son of Norway’s Crown Princess Is Charged With Rape and Sexual Assault/Marius Borg Hoiby, the stepson of Crown Prince Haakon, was charged with rape and sexual assault after a monthslong police investigation that has caused turmoil for the royal family" (NYT).

So he's not a prince, but his younger brother is a prince and his younger sister a princess. I see that when he was born, his father was in prison. Wikipedia:
The fact that Mette-Marit was a single mother and the circumstances surrounding this, including the background of the child's father as a convicted felon, were considered controversial. TV 2 later wrote that "Merely by existing, Marius Borg Høiby was seen by many as a scandal for the royal family."  Jo Moen Bredeveien of Dagsavisen wrote that "in a documentary on TV2, the king's sister (Princess Ragnhild, Mrs. Lorentzen) comes across as almost uncomfortably prophetic. She expressed concern about how things would turn out for Marius, now that the Crown Princess was pregnant with Ingrid Alexandra, the nation's future queen: 'I feel terribly sorry for her son. When they have a child, poor Marius will be nothing. He is six years old, but he will understand that there is a difference. That will cause problems for them. I hope they have thought it through,' the princess said."

Thanks for decoding that for us. So the bottom line is that a nobody was accused of something bad. What with all the people and names and titles and hyphenations and odd letters, I had given up on figuring out what was going on.

In the eyes of God, all children are created equal...

Let's try to stop programming our children to accept otherwise? That's against MY religion, but I know some like the Jewish people prioritize their own. "Happy Passover to my Jewish students who celebrate!"

Just remember : No Kings ... nor Queens for that matter. Royalty is basically a real-life soap opera for the idle masses.

If there's no contemporaneous police report, it didn't happen.

Poor kid. I don’t know anything about his crime and of course he should go to jail if he’s guilty, but what a brutal family situation—his mother and siblings are all royalty and he’s just some bloke from the wrong side of the tracks.

Cute little tyke in his younger days, judging from the picture in the Wiki article.

How does a European country gracefully dump a royal family?

The Tudors kept marrying into the royal family, bringing along non-royal stepchildren, until they finally took the place over. So there's hope for this guy.

I don't see the connection between the circumstances of his parentage along with his mother's marriage into a country's royal family and the crimes he's accused of.

"It is claimed to involve "a double-digit number" of victims."

They say 'no man is an island', but after Jeffrey Epstein suicide, we have in Høiby a promising upstart.

A child from a former relationship, a miscreant by choice, and a tale narrated to fill an empty space is a sign of our Times.

His mother and her new family are not the story. A handmade tale with benefits. Libelous narration?

It's a subtle psychodrama of entitlement.

or the Caesars..
not a single legitimate offspring EVER made it to adulthood.
they ALL just kept dying of mysterious poisons. What sort of person is this Mette-Marit?
As a former waitress, she should know her way around a kitchen

It goes to show that in the end we're all just the same human clay noble and base at once, royalty or not. Twas ever thus. Bottom line: Much sound and fury signifying nothing and of no importance except to the yellow press, for whom it's a gold mine.

"he will understand that there is a difference."

The feelings of inferiority in siblings due to family dynamics are the key here. Feeling overshadowed by future princes and princesses made him feel invisible, so he chose to make himself visible on his own terms. Sad. And people here say that feelings are not important. Look, they are.

What was his pick-up line? Was it "I am Borg. Do not resist. You will be assimilated"?

"Princess Ragnhild" sounds like a puppet in a children's show.

Humperdink said...

Does it not remind one of Hunter Biden’s child he fathered with the stripper? Born into royalty, yet a zero in the royal family, in the press and the public at large. Forgotten.
