So Putin's limo got blown up in Moscow the other day. That's how close we are to WW3, and France, the UK, and Ukraine are all in on it. That's their strategy now, to provoke WW3, get Russia to react in a way that the US is forced to defend Europe, and bingo.

We are living out The Sum of All fears right now.

This is right after the New York Times admitted that US generals had been running the war since 2022, and it was supposed to be... wait for it... a cakewalk, if it hadn't been for the Ukrainians ignoring US plans, and then Donald Trump snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

Trump is walking us back from the precipice that Biden marched us right up to.

The idea of Trump running as vice president in 2028 under JD Vance has sparked a lot of debate. Constitutionally, Trump is barred from serving as vice president because the 12th Amendment prohibits anyone ineligible for the presidency from holding the VP role2. However, hypothetically, if this scenario were possible, it could raise questions about Vance's leadership. Some might see it as a strategic move to leverage Trump's popularity, while others could interpret it as Vance playing second fiddle to Trump's ambitions4.
It’s a bold hypothetical, but it’s also a legal and political minefield.
It also makes vance who has his eye on election look weak and insignificant to me?(he is a worm though)
If Vance were to align himself too closely with Trump in such a hypothetical scenario, it could overshadow his own leadership and make him appear as though he's riding on Trump's coattails. For someone with presidential ambitions, projecting strength and independence is crucial. This kind of dynamic might make it harder for Vance to establish his own identity as a leader. Its all smoke and mirrors and look overhear as trump rapes the economy he was given and fuking it up in a mere 70 days. Dont fall for the con AGAIN and again!!

Cory Booker broke Strom Thurmond's record by speaking for over 24 hours.

Strom is still the king as he managed to marry a Clemson co-ed and get two maids pregnant during his filibuster.

One of Putin's fleet of limos blew up in Moscow, and we don't even know whether it was an accident or terrorism. If it was terrorism, we don't have any idea who did it, and Putin's fellow Russians can't be ruled out. After all, it's been less than two years since his buddies Prigozhin and Utkin turned on him and marched four-fifths of the way to Moscow.

The idea that Ukraine's allies are trying "to provoke WW3" rather than prevent it is of course idiotic. The New York Times hasn't been a reliable source in decades, and has alleged some things, but hardly "admitted" them. The idea that Ukraine could have won already if they hadn't ignored US plans is of course the opposite of the truth. They are rightly bitter that the US objected to sinking the Moskva, insisted on allowing the Russians to withdraw safely from the northern half of Kherson, insisted on them attacking the strongest Russian positions in Zaporizhzhia, and have consistently taken steps to prevent Ukraine from winning.

Chris Coons has said that Middle Americans can't find Greenland on the map. I suppose it depends on what you mean by "Middle Americans." His own voters don't seem to be much better at geography than other Americans.

So, who is Chris Coons anyway? I looked him up. For decades, Delaware was dominated by the du Pont chemical company, and you could not get the du Ponts and their relatives out of Delaware politics. Then came "Middle Class Joe," and now Chris Coons. Coons' parents were divorced, and his mother married the multi-millionaire inventor of ribbon cables and Gore-Tex®, a chemicals magnate who was reputedly the wealthiest man in all of Delaware when he died. As the du Ponts would say, «Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose.»

Those two Florida House sets we were supposed to worry about were each declared for the GOP candidate within minutes of the polls closing.

Twelve point leads with 80% of the vote in.

Send DeSantis up North to show then how to run an election and count votes!

When the Dems use judges against Trump they are weakening their party. Why can't they come up with alternate legislative proposals and use the next few years to gain support? Why do they use judges to carry out legislative functions? Why do they do nothing but block? They see they can't win with their program today and they see their chances will be worse tomorrow and yet they can't step back from wokeism. The Hindenburg was a rigid structure filled with flammable helium gas and carrying a passenger cabin slung below - and that's pretty much the Dem ideology in relation to the Dem party right now.

@wildswan, point of information. The Hindenburg was filled with hydrogen gas, which burns explosively (in contrast with helium, which is inert).

There used to be an adage that went; "Find someone who looks at you the way your grandmother looks at your grandfather." This always confused me because I couldn't understand why anyone would want to go through life with someone constantly giving you a look that says; "What in the Hell is that dumb son of a bitch up to now?!" Personally, I've started advising people to find someone who cares about them the way Obama appointed Federal judges care about illegal Venezuelan gang members.

I guess western civilization is over now.

How long before Elon/MAGA are going to say Wisconsin was rigged? They'd have to agree the Voter ID part was rigged as well....

“Five years after the global shortages of toilet paper at the start of the coronavirus pandemic, President Trump’s proposed tariffs on Canadian lumber could leave U.S. stores struggling to stock it once again.

The Trump administration had threatened to hike tariffs on Canadian softwood lumber to 27% as soon as April 2, and possibly to as high as 50% by an unspecified date, Bloomberg reported. That could have a big impact on the availability of northern bleached softwood kraft pulp (NBSK), a material derived from wood chips that is used to make toilet paper and paper towels.”

I hope everyone has stocked up on TP. Wouldn’t want to see TP riots again.

Just got home from the sold out Bob Dylan concert in Omaha.

If you do attend any of his shows (and I strongly suggest you don’t), you need to get to the venue 40-30 minutes early. That’s because it is a phone free concert so you don’t steal Bob’s IP. You have to put your phone in a locked bag after you use your phone as a ticket. Traffic jam!

My beautiful date and I were in our seats at about 8:06. Bob started promptly at 8. It ended at 9:55. No encore.

I would have fallen asleep but for the fact that I was holding hands with an exquisite high class woman. No lie! She was the highlight of the concert for me. She is exceptionally beautiful with a bright personality and an infectious laugh.

She was disappointed that there was no light on Dylan. We could barely see him.

He only played the piano and a little harmonica. The beat was nearly like a dirge. I ran into two high school friends after the show. One remarked, “It would have been nice to hear some melodies; he’s got plenty of them.”

As best I could tell, the set list was mostly from his new album. I get that as a creative person he wants to play his new stuff, but throw us a bone, man! Nothing from the early folk days. No, “All Along the Watchtower” like in OK. Nothing from “Blood on the Tracks.” A bitter disappointment.

It was a self-indulgent performance. I heard Smokey on Sirius remark that years ago he went to a concert and he didn’t hear the hits that he expected so ever since he has always done his hits.

And at age 83-84, I think there was kind of a death watch vibe. Certainly many attended thinking this was their last chance to see the legendary Bob Dylan.

The big surprise was the age of the crowd. I’d say the average age was 35-40. I thought it would be 65.

Second worse concert ever for me. Sorry, Ann. But I had to be honest.

Geez. two errors in two days. And I'm making spelling errors I don't catch though I review my posts for that. Slow down, girl. I admit my mind is tremendously concentrated elsewhere for the moment because of changes and dangers I have to manage but I love this political/art/cultural stuff. It's like looking out the window at the weather and the sunrise.

I remember reading back in the early Covid days that the primary cause of the great TP shortage of 2020 was the sudden massive switch in demand from commercial/office TP, which comes in large rolls with small spindles, to personal/home TP, which comes in small rolls with large spindles; this, coupled with panic/hoarding buying on a massive scale, resulted in the shortage. It took a while for the TP suppliers to switch their commercial operations over.
During the course of a recent move I found some small spindle/big rolls of paper from those days. Makes sense.
So I don't think that tariffs on Canadian softwood are going to cause the same level of problem. Maybe raise the price some.
But the future is one of the hardest things to predict. And what do I know?

Seems like Begley was really looking for a Kid Rock show. Bright lights and a rehash of their old sing alongs.

Poor old Dave accidently went to see a musical genius and got challenged to listen .... and didn't.

Not to worry. There are whole towns in Northern Wisconsin dedicated to manufacturing toilet paper. We will not run out of TP or trees in the foreseeable future.

Always a good idea for Inga to stock up on TP. Although, the TP burden should be a little less with the decreasing occupants of The Not So Happy Hostel.

That’s where seeing Dylan in 2009 rates for me. Worst for me was the Clash at the Hollywood Palladium back in 1982. Total disregard for their audience.

I also saw The Clash in 1982 at the Mesa Amphitheater. The English Beat were the opening act and they put on a far better show.

Same tour, Old and Slow. Yes, I remember English Beat… coming out of the Palladium bathroom to “Mirror in the Bathroom”, lol. They were great. I saw Dave Wakeling and General Public open for Squeeze 2 or 3 years ago. They were both outstanding.

Why apologize to me? Seems like the "sorry" that expands to: Sorry, but I have to disagree with you. But I never said Dylan concerts are all great. I don't know if I ever even vouched for his live concerts. I have gone to some, but not because I believed he'd blow me away with some kind of great concert. Looking back over all the concerts I've ever seen, from any artist, I struggle to think of anyone I'd assume was great. I saw one of the greatest concerts ever — Lou Reed, Rock and Roll Animal — then pressured some colleagues to go see Lou Reed maybe only a year later, and he just stumbled around on stage in no condition to perform. So I never assume I'm going to get a good concert. I am very attached to Bob Dylan's studio recordings though.

Ann Althouse said...

To my colleagues, I apologized. Apologized and endured mockery for asserting that Lou Reed was great in concert. I was the idiot. I retrospect I consider myself brilliant for getting myself to the "Rock and Roll Animal" concert, and that's what I choose to give prime placement in the furniture of my mind.
