"Today, I have ordered the United States Military to launch decisive and powerful Military action against the Houthi terrorists in Yemen."

Writes Trump, on Truth Social.
They have waged an unrelenting campaign of piracy, violence, and terrorism against American, and other, ships, aircraft, and drones. Joe Biden’s response was pathetically weak, so the unrestrained Houthis just kept going. It has been over a year since a U.S. flagged commercial ship safely sailed through the Suez Canal, the Red Sea, or the Gulf of Aden. The last American Warship to go through the Red Sea, four months ago, was attacked by the Houthis over a dozen times. Funded by Iran, the Houthi thugs have fired missiles at U.S. aircraft, and targeted our Troops and Allies. These relentless assaults have cost the U.S. and World Economy many BILLIONS of Dollars while, at the same time, putting innocent lives at risk.

The Houthi attack on American vessels will not be tolerated. We will use overwhelming lethal force until we have achieved our objective. The Houthis have choked off shipping in one of the most important Waterways of the World, grinding vast swaths of Global Commerce to a halt, and attacking the core principle of Freedom of Navigation upon which International Trade and Commerce depends.

Our brave Warfighters are right now carrying out aerial attacks on the terrorists’ bases, leaders, and missile defenses to protect American shipping, air, and naval assets, and to restore Navigational Freedom. No terrorist force will stop American commercial and naval vessels from freely sailing the Waterways of the World.

To all Houthi terrorists, YOUR TIME IS UP, AND YOUR ATTACKS MUST STOP, STARTING TODAY. IF THEY DON’T, HELL WILL RAIN DOWN UPON YOU LIKE NOTHING YOU HAVE EVER SEEN BEFORE!

To Iran: Support for the Houthi terrorists must end IMMEDIATELY! Do NOT threaten the American People, their President, who has received one of the largest mandates in Presidential History, or Worldwide shipping lanes. If you do, BEWARE, because America will hold you fully accountable and, we won’t be nice about it!

I did not understand why "we" allowed the Houthi to shut down international shipping. We really can't defeat a bunch of rag tag pirates?

This would be the finding out part of the fucking around.

As I said last thread, the contrast with Biden couldn’t be made clearer - or more explicit.

@Original Mike, who wonders: <"I did not understand why "we" allowed the Houthi to shut down international shipping."

Well, you see, we allowed a fake election to occur in 2020 and didn't hang anybody afterwards. That sends the wrong signal to the rag tag pirates that we're not a serious people.

They're getting a different message in this administration.

The usn and usaf should target airports, port and ship unloading facilities, and border rail connections. I hope the usn can do much of it with naval artillery from surface ships, that would save money.

So this is why I was seeing from Democrats on X that Trump was unlawfully waging war against Yemen. Except it's not Yemen- and it's not war, per se. It's anti-piracy actions. Is it similar to war? Yes. Involves killing and everything else. But there's no entity there to declare war against...

Don't ask me, I don't give a damn,
Next stop is Houthi Yeman!
And it's five, six, seven,
Open up the pearly gates,
Well there ain't no time to wonder why,
Whoopee! we're all gonna die.

Seems like a sensible move -- it should have happened 16 months ago. Pirates/terrorists impeding traffic in shipping lanes should be eliminated.

We need to protect US shipping. Otherwise, we need to stay our of Yeman. I cant think of a more useless place on earth.

For those commenters who are frantically attempting to find out where the Declaration of War is ... it's in the same drawer of Joe Biden's desk where the Ukraine war declaration is stored.

I'm not real happy about this;

"grind" can be a transitive verb, but not in that usage.

I love how Trump is always going to flick the ears of libtards who have been raging and harassing him and his supporters for years. Just a few words but it causes Party members so much anguish and ruins their day.

Re-commission the USS Iowa. That thing can send serious messages, 18,000 lbs. per salvo.

@Dwerve, who wants to know: Who's paying for this?

Same people who gave Stacy Abrams $2 billion to buy votes by giving people new refrigerators in Georgia. It comes out of that same pile of cash.

You got any other questions?

I would ask our enlightened Dem friends to consider the added carbon footprint of ships forced to go the long way around Africa rather than through the Suez Canal due to the Houthis hi-jinks.

Perve Horson doesn't seem to realize that the Houthi blockade of the Red Sea has cost western nations trillions of dollars, as hundreds of ships that would normally take that route are forced to take much longer routes, often all the way around Africa. This adds thousands of miles and dozens of days to the length of each voyage, which of course means tens of thousands of dollars per ship in extra fuel and crew-salary costs. The blockade is also bankrupting Egypt, which used to depend on Suez Canal toll charges for a large percentage of its budget.

Why did I write "western" nations? Russian and Chinese ships are allowed through, though the Houthis have sunk a couple of those by mistake. It's all part of the Russian-Chinese-Iranian-North-Korean semi-hot war on the west. The cost of destroying the Houthis' pirate forces is in fact far less than the cost of complying with their blockade. Too bad none of our NATO allies have much in the way of naval and air power to contribute.

This will get some results, I think. With the advent of kinetic munitions, the six-bladed 'Ninja' Ginzu Hellfire missile, precise personal strikes can be made fairly inexpensively, and with little to no collateral damage. Let's see if our satellite intelligence is up to the task.

The Houthis have filed a request for an injunction with a Federl judge in Hawaii

pacwest said...

"Who's paying for this?"

The estimated losses caused by the interruption in shipping are ten billion dollars per day. Covering the cost of 10,000 missiles every day for as long as it continues. Cost savings are immense, will more than cover the military costs, and give a yuuge ROI as well as lower inflation pressure worldwide. But wait! There's more! It also damages if not eradicates another Iran toady.

Original Mike said...

"The Houthis have filed a request for an injunction with a Federl judge in Hawaii"

They'll get it, too.

Didn't DJT already promise that hell would rain down on Hamas. Too much talk like this will make him a paper tiger if he doesn't follow through or the usual presidential warmonger if he does.

It's not the taking of action against the Houthis that's objectionable -- it's the manifestos. Act or do not act, but don't bother announcing it in advance to the world.

MTG post on X:

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene

@RepMTG
The President must come to Congress for permission before going to war.

Biden can not solely decide to bomb Yemen.

And what is the condition of Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin? Is he still laid up in the hospital?

Biden admin wants to fund war in Ukraine, control the war in Israel, arm Taiwan and prep for war with China, and is now going to war in the Middle East???

This is insanely out of control!

No, No, NO! Let the EU/NATO handle this one. Yemen/Suez is in their sphere and so it's their responsibility Mr Blorrmf. All the yelling and screaming he's done lately about Europe carrying their own load and then he swings a fist right into this newest tar baby. Bottom line: Europa is not going to step up until they absolutely f****** have to, and so now's the time for them to either sink or swim. America has bigger fish to fry in its own pan right now and so they need to put out the fire this time.

mindnumbrobot said...

Like it or not, the USN controls the shipping routes around the globe and is responsible for keeping them safe. It would be a very different world if that weren't so. We can't have pirates taking pot shots at ships and aircraft without a response, and only people not happy about this are Democrats, the "declaration of war" crowd, and the Iranians.

Rusty said...

Remember the "barbary Pirates"?
They've hardly bothered us at all since then. We are the boat people. We have many very large boats used in fighting, Granted the Navy is a bunch of pansies but they have Marines to give them backbone.
I don't think this will take very long.

Aggie said...

@gadfly: How many billions, sent to Ukraine so far? How many audits performed, tracking where the money and the arms actually went? How many billions expended on the Houthis, so far?

Can you compare the economic impact of both conflicts, on world trade?

Just curious if there's any depth behind this rather simplistic attempt at an 'irony own'.

Michael McNeil said...

Where is the declaration of war?

No official declaration of war is required for the U.S. to participate in a war already in progress against it—and the Houthis' attacks on American shipping and warships sailing in international waters have made it so.

UCLA constitutional law professor Eugene Volokh has written about this principle.
