Fed Dims Economic Outlook, Citing Uncertainty Over Tariffs ~ WSJ
So the Fed expects sharply lower growth and stubbornly high inflation -- it's called Stagflation in less refined circles. Both directly attributed to Trump’s trade wars.
Normally, that would be a wake up call for an administration.
The real problem will start when Trump focuses his attention squarely on the Fed and starts to demand multiple rate cuts in short order. That will really set the cat amongst the pigeons.
Trump to announce the end of Department of Education tomorrow in special event. I remember Republicans hoped Reagan would do it, but no. Nobody expected the Bush’s to do it. Since its inception, the cost of education has outpaced other services while the quality of education has declined. After Democrats used DeptEd to keep schools closed longer during Covid, it seemed inevitable there would be a backlash by the voters. I’m hoping to see an equivalent drop in school administration as some jobs, such as regulatory compliance, become obsolete.
Arguments about destroying education itself are foolish. The biggest budget line item for nearly every state is education. The effect locally will be up to the states.

We spend a preposterous amount of money per pupil only to get graduates who cannot read their own diplomas. You might imagine that these are low IQ people passed through the system because of athletic skills, but lately it has included honors students (C.f. Aleysha Ortiz).

Well, there's a 1950's horror movie idea.
3/19/25, 6:54 PM LOL! That's what I was thinking! You eat the moon food and then it starts growing alien organisms inside you. The veins of the aliens appear like roots under the skin, then start breaking up the human form the way a seedling grows through concrete and eventually ruptures it... Something like that...
In a suburb of south Denver - a charter school is on track to be built. Well - not if the corrupt left can stop it. The corrupt insane left are calling the school "Maga and nazi." It's a charter school. Period. Charter Schools in CO are in high demand because the quality of education is so much better. Leftists hate that.
25 million people died because of a lab leak in Wuhan China - that was paid for with American Tax dollars. No wonder the corrupt left wanted the "wet market" lie to take hold.
trumps next to be reversed firings of FTC people. Illegal like all the other cases he is getting beat up in the courts for. Really LOSING a waste of lawyers time and $$$ and he don;t give fuk Just more golf (14 days ) since he got back in and hurry get him them tax cuts then he can spend rest of the time golfing and grifting.. He is losing so much in court that it will be a book of records feat. Looks like his 7th bankruptcy coming through , the US of A.

The only thing you need to grow plants is water and nutrients. You don't really need dirt.
3/19/25, 8:27 PM That's what I was thinking, hydroponics. To make matters worse, moon soil is hydrophobic- it doesn't absorb water!

3/19/25, 9:09 PM Mmm-moon lemons and lunar oil... I usually sautee them in butter with garlic. I could eat gravel if it's sauteed in butter and garlic.

Try growing trees with taproots without dirt to anchor them in the ground. Ditto trees like maples or birches with diffuse root systems providing stability, or buttress roots common to rain forest trees.

It can be done. In fact, it has been done. Experiments conducted aboard Skylab in the 1970s demonstrated that more or less normal plants can be grown in a microgravity environment by using scaffolding to orient their growth in a arbitrary "vertical" direction. The infamous Biodome project saw small trees growing hydroponically with similar above-ground supports standing in for naturally developing roots. Later work aboard the ISS has shown that at least some plants are essentially oblivious to the absence of Earth-gravity -- cabbage and peas, for example -- and develop normally by orienting to a consistent light source. We may never grow useful mahogany in space, but it appears that growing many foods away from Earth may not be an insurmountable problem.
Brussel sprouts are only yummy when prepared in ways that mask their brussel-sprout-y-ness.
I discovered (from America's Test Kitchen) that a tiny bit of lemon juice removes cooked broccoli's brocliness. It also turns it brown in the frig, so butter it first if you expect (and like) leftovers.
This is sadly what America has become - treating innocents as dangerous criminals by our government. Punished by long detentions with no charges or hearings and made to sleep on cold concrete with aluminum foil as blankets.

Here's a happy story from The Guardian about the power and majesty of the law.

Lots of things going on. But soon we will all be distracted by wondering what is going on underneath the pyramids ……

Thank You, Leland! I love Brussel sprouts and now I know what regolith is. I wonder if soil from the dark side of the moon would be more fertile.

Try growing them without CO2 or certain wavelengths of light.

I hate you already.
Brussel sprouts; yummy.

Not moon dirt, but evidently Matt Damon put out enough crap to grow enough potatoes in Martian soil to feed himself for four years.
