"President Barack Obama... claimed the right to kill U.S. citizens abroad without trial, used the Espionage Act against whistleblowers and expanded domestic counterterrorism."

"He helped perfect the arsenal that Trump would later inherit. It was the left, not the right, that normalized censoring disfavored online speech during the pandemic, often using intelligence-linked partners to do so. It was establishment liberals who applauded when the FBI investigated Trump-world operatives — not on the basis of principle, but because they liked the target. Now the weapon is back in circulation, only in different hands.... That’s how weapons work.... Power, once created and normalized, rarely stays dormant — and never stays partisan...."

From "Trump is using weapons that liberals helped build," by Vinnie Rotondaro (at The Hill).

ADDED: It's as though Trump is saying: I am your mirror image — don't you hate it?

But!
It's FINE for a Democrat to do this..
The Problem Is; when Republicans TRY to do it

Yet again, Trump and many people on his team are 1990s-style Democrats. This is alternative history in progress. It's a redo of the Democratic path not taken (closer to Bill Clinton).

Lifelong passive Republican cows continue to led by nose, as they always have been.

Is Trump censoring anyone? Holy carp! The administration takes all the BS questions your side can shovel without breaking a sweat. This blog is full of posts with quotes from you whiners every day…

Holy crap! The Hill hasn't reported uncomfortable facts like that for years. Is the journalism that Trump broke coming back stronger as it heals? Is there anything the great American Improvement Project can't make better!

Needs a Trump as Muad'Dib tag.

…by Trump ‘censoring’ they mean Trump is cutting off the billions in US Treasury taxpayer dollars we used so our favored propagandists can maintain the lifestyle to which they’ve become accustomed…

Like when Harry Reid nuked the filibuster, Democrats were warned repeatedly they wouldn't like living under the rules they were making.

Barack Obama didn't just "CLAIM" to kill American citizens without charge, trial or conviction.

He actually did it. He murdered Americans, with zero due process.

Even children.

Payback is a bitch. Or what goes around comes around.
Although Trump isn't censoring anybody. Or killing any US citizens abroad. Or punishing "whistleblowers." What is he talking about?

The Democrats are finally being held to a standard. President Trump might be a convicted felon thanks to a oligarchical New York tribunal. But he won't be the last. And the odds are good that many Democrats will be impoverished or in prison.

Because the beat is yet to come.

Except there's no evidence other then liberal/left projection and shrieking that Trump is using the FBI/Federal Government to harrass or destroy his opponents. Quite the opposite, he's declared the end to "Weaponization". I consider this just more of the standard liberal/left "gaslighting".

But should Trump use his power to punish those who break the law, or behave unethically? Of course. Hunter Biden was pardoned, but if hadn't been, going after him in 2025 would not be "Revenge" or "Weaponization" but enforcing the law.

Finally, the only way the Liberal/left will stop using lawfare and Government Censorship is if they suffer its effects. Then they will understand its a two-edged sword. The liberal/left only responds to force. Reasoning with them, or waiting for them to respect norms and traditions is useless. The liberal/left consider themselves to be in an endless struggle with their political enemies. The Center and Right need to recognize reality.

Christopher B said..."were warned repeatedly".

There seemed to be many warnings when Democrats changed the rules. They either thought they would always be in power or they could get the rules changed back.

The current Trump era is glorious. Yes, Trump will move too fast, make mistakes or overreach, but that's fine. At least it isn't the same-old-same-old.

I think Democrats assumed that the new rules would facilitate them staying in power forever.

I see that others have tweaked to this canard, as well. It's trotted out and presented as the first item on the list, as if it's the primary offense - but where are the examples? I have not heard once that the Trump administration has engaged in censoring speech, except as politically-charged invective rhetoric.

What dishonest reporting, something unexpected from the Hill on a day ending in 'y'.

The current Trump version of fast and furious was pioneered by FDR. He had his plans worked out in advance and shock and awe works.

But the Obama model democrats don’t want to work that hard, they think that messaging is all it takes.

The "'You made me!' 'No, you made me!'" scene in that "Batman" movie is eternally relevant.

However, Trump's tactics are a response and a reaction to what the Democrats did but not exactly a mirror image.

Double standards are better because you get twice as many standards.
