If you want to get excited about 2028, here are the names that have emerged thus far: Walz, Buttigieg, and Pritzker.

Yikes!

Also mentioned in the article: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rahm Emanuel, Josh Shapiro, Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan Andy Beshear, and Gavin Newsom.

Newsom just started a podcast, and he had Steve Bannon as a guest. Frankly, I think Newsom should use Bannon as an adviser. I see things like "Gavin Newsom draws Democratic ire for hosting Steve Bannon on his podcast/‘I don’t think we should give him oxygen on any platform, ever, anywhere,’ Kentucky governor Andy Beshear says" (The Guardian). But Bannon asserts that he's a Democrat, criticizes the Democratic Party for becoming the party of the elite, and earnestly and continually argues that government should operate for the benefit of the working class.

Losers on parade. Especially Buttigieg. I can't forget the photograph of him and his husband (or is it his wife? Does it depend on who is on top?) in hospital gowns, in a hospital bed, holding their tiny victim as if they had been involved in his or her birth. Lord, the revulsion that inspired in me was epic. Still is.

Gavin Newsom knows what he needs to do to get elected. He quite possibly will make an attempt to rehabilitate the democrat party.

The only path forward for the Democrat party is to adopt some actual principles and many that overlap with Trump's platform right now and to accept losing a few elections nationally.

In 8-12 years electorates will naturally gravitate to something new. The best path for the Democrats is to become the party of Kennedy again.

In order to make this happen they will have to accept the loss of the AOC wing of the party. The classical liberals and the marxists cannot be together in the same party and win elections. At this point all of the classical liberals have moved to the Trump version of the Republican party. They will not come back as long as censorship and transing kids are planks of the democrat party. Their only path back is going to take years.

…the downside of Democrats out of power, weak and pathetic is triggering the sympathy response…

Trump is a Democrat. A peacenik Democrat. So is most of his cabinet. I don't know what the people running the Democratic Party right now are but they have embraced the endless war types and the billionaire oligarchs who fund their campaigns.

Well, at least the Donks might have a real primary this time. It will have been 20 years since the last real one, which means there are Donks in early middle age who’ve never experienced one since reaching political awareness. And 12 of those 20 spent in Trumpsterics. So they’re going to be amped and contentious. Should be knives out and, hopefully, very damaging to the Democrat Party.

Newsom is the only name that doesn’t elicit a laugh or an eye roll. The Dems only hope is another Clinton—somebody on nobody’s radar right now. What a sad state of affairs.

Bannon has switched sides cuz he’s ticked Musk is the chosen one now. He’d love to screw Trump. JD Vance will be a formidable candidate against any of these yahoos.

What a terrifying list. Godspeed JD

gilbar said...

so..
of the ENTIRE list,
the Closest there is to a person of color, is: Rahm Emanuel
do i have that right?
or is it AOC?
who's less white? a jew from Chicago? or a Puerto Rican from NYC?

gilbar said...

just to be Clear..
the Democrats COULD have had (in fact, DID Have) Tulsi Gabbard.
That's RIGHT, a gorgeous woman of color, that could walk the nose.. AND hang 10.

She'd be a few months into her second term right now..
BUT NO

In other words, President Vance will serve 2029 - 2037. Then Musk will take over— as President of Mars, of course, of which Earth will be a colony.

I am deeply disappointed that they have not enabled comments on that story.

I agree with you ANN. I am 71 and old enough to know what the democratic party was back in the day. They are unrecognizable today. They were the party protecting American jobs. In Fact Donald Trump would be a perfect fit for the D part 30 or so years ago.

By 2028 Hillary will be tan, rested, and ready.

Danno said...

Koot, Trump was a business Democrat all his life, almost up to his announcement in 2015 saying he was running for President.

Pritzker, Walz, and Newsom promise to do for the rest of the U.S. what they have done for their states.

Walz meets the criteria for a Democrat Nominee. Can breathe and supports the "party line".

Political Junkie said...

Nope. Will be D Wes Moore vs R JD Vance. Bet it if you want easy profits. Want to know the outcome of that race? Gotta pay.

Joanne Jacobs said...

Wes Moore would be a strong candidate. He's young, but older than Vance, and has a military, business and writing background. Josh Shapiro is a possibility. Maybe Whitmer, Polis or Beshear.

The Party of NAFTA was protecting American jobs? I think most people my age or older have absorbed so much Democrat Party propaganda in our lives that it permeates every part of us and still gives off trace elements, like radioactivity.

" Newsom is the only name that doesn’t elicit a laugh or an eye roll. " That's only because you don't live in Calfornia. Violent gagging might be more appropriate.

Nobody there is very appealing. Moore and Shapiro (or Moore and Beshear) would be the Democrats best bets. I'm reminded though of ... what was it ... 2012? and thinking the Pawlenty or Daniels would be plausible presidential candidates when I had no idea who they were and what their personalities and records were like. It's just that any Democrat who manages to get elected governor of a swing state (or any African American Democrat who manages to get elected governor of any state) is a likely presidential contender and probably more qualified than the senators who are always running for president.

A dark horse has often appeared for the Dems in the past (Carter, Clinton, Obama). Looking at that line-up, I'd say praying for a dark horse is the best option.

wendybar said...

Hilarious. Any normal person has already left that whacked out party that is committing suicide as we speak.

Tina Trent said...

I'll temporarily switch Parties to vote for Pritzger. He is one of the very worst elected officials in the United States.

Rusty said...

Pritzker? Seriously? Do you have any idea what it costs to feed that guy?
A half dozen children a day, at least!

Shapiro has that laughable murder investigation he is tied to that will be an albatross for him.
