"How far Ms. Ocasio-Cortez can go is a hot topic for many Democrats right now."

"With her youth, charisma, social media skills and political savvy, she is being talked about nowadays as not only the obvious heir to Mr. Sanders as leader of the progressive movement, but as a possible presidential contender for 2028. This both recognizes her potential and feels premature at best.... Her mere existence spins up Republicans to a degree reminiscent of their reaction to Nancy Pelosi in her heyday.... The Fighting Oligarchy tour organized by Mr. Sanders and featuring her as a 'special guest' drew fired-up crowds in numbers worthy of a presidential campaign: about 15,000 in Tempe, Ariz.; 11,000 in Greeley, Colo.; 34,000 in Denver.... Democrats freaked out by Mr. Trump are clamoring for leaders who share their sense of urgency. Fighting Oligarchy, with its revolutionary fervor, is working to scratch that itch.... [A]lthough Mr. Sanders is the tour’s headliner... it is Ms. Ocasio-Cortez, serving as his fresh-faced, supportive warm-up act, who has many Trump-traumatized Democrats dreaming of a counterrevolution...."

Writes Michelle Cottle, in "What Ocasio-Cortez Wants for the Democrats" (NYT).

Her mere existence spins up Republicans!

Meanwhile, Democrats are itchy, and AOC is scratchy.

The DNC has invested heavily in the prospects of AOC, from early on. She immediately had an enviable wardrobe that did not reflect a barkeep's income. She has Upper-Middle Class values, and she's ambitious.

But ambition is no substitute for talent and savvy, and in this, she's deficient. She cannot think on her feet; When she produces a good comeback, it's prepared. She is prone to tropes. And she gets mad easily. Now, some latinas can be hugely attractive and compelling when they're fired up. But AOC just looks blotchy and petulant, like she's about to stamp her foot. Upper-Middle Class values.

She may be one of the DNC's better prospects, but that doesn't make her a good prospect. She'll run, but she'd be elbowed out by Gavin on short order. No, the DNC is going to spit up a younger white guy, next time.

Didja notice how this article isn't titled "What Ocasio-Cortez Wants for Americans." She's not trying to appeal to Americans. She's trying to appeal to Democrats.

It is VERY clear why certain people are talking up AOC as a Presidential candidate and that is that they don't want anybody talking her up as a US Senate candidate and every last one of these people is being paid by Chuck Schumer to convince AOC that she should want to be the President.

Michelle Cottle's husband, by the way, works for billionaire Democrat Laurene Jobs, one of Chuck Schumer's biggest cash donors.

Interesting how the MSM-DNC always frames the story. Here, its "Gosh, grassroots Dems are upset their Leaders aren't fighting Trump hard enough". I don't remember a single MSM-DNC story from 2021-2024 about "Gosh, Grassroots Republicans are upset at their leaders for not fighting Biden enough".

Instead we got stories about the noble Lisa Murky or Susan Collins or Mitch the bitch McConnell "reaching across the aisle" to help "Make the Government run" despite all those far-right extremists back home making their life difficult.

RCOCEAN II said...

As for AOC and all these so-called "Progressive" (Note: Not Far left, or even left) leaders who are breaking a new path, etc. Its all fake. The democrat voters are the dumbest, most low information people in the country. In 2028, the Democrat Establishment will decide that 2-3 politicans are "Kosher" and then we'll have the primaries and 1 of them will be chosen. And all the D's including the fake "Bernie Bros" will fall in line and vote for them.

The last time you had a true fight for a Nomination was 2008, when Obama came out of nowhere to be Hillary. And O was able to do that because blacks voted for him. AOC isn't getting the black vote, anymore than Bernie did.

In general for the most part, I think of New York Times colonists, not as people who are particularly insightful or smart, but as reliable leftist commentators. I still don’t understand how Krugman got a Nobel prize and economics, but clearly his columns. The last several years seem to suggest he really does not understand economics well.

My point for this column is that Cottle really confuses AOC and Pelosi. Pelosi was a coldhearted assassin. Conservatives hated her because she was serious and determined and effective and her policies were harmful to the country. I think I am not living in a bubble and I think I am correct that most of the country sees AOC as a joke. She is just a silly girl with no understanding. The country is divided somewhere around a third or a quarter conservatives, a third or a quarter liberals, and the remainder somewhere in the middle. I don’t know that Americans can really process information enough to make good choices but when your candidate is ridiculous, The middle will go elsewhere. I think all conservatives and all people who love the country really want AOC to run. She is the most ridiculous on serious Candidate that the left can run.

Factor in election fraud, and AOC has a better chance of being elected than Biden Harris. Harris is an idiot, no political instincts, no intelligence, no charisma, came very close to being President. and yes, cheating was off the charts, again.
Will they let AOC run, or do what they did to Bernie in 2016?
Socialism with tits and ass.
As always, it's up to Congress to make laws ensuring honest elections- and the chances that actually happens is slim to none. They were in session less than two weeks this month, and same for next. They aren't serious about getting anything done, just talking about getting things done.
The stage is being set by the cabal to elect another idiot.

Obama was a smooth talker though. She is not. Also, Obama had pretty much 100% of black voters voting for him. And by that I mean, not just the ones that normally vote. People who didn’t normally vote I think came out to vote for him. He really was a kind of historical candidate. This also motivated every single liberal to vote for him. The first black president. Personally, I think skin color is nonsense. I think all thinking people should. But in our country with our history of slavery and fighting a war to end it, you can see the appeal of electing a black president. I don’t agree with it, but I see the appeal. And yes, slavery was an institution in every country and continues to be an institution in some and yes, we were the only one to fight a war against it. But I think you can see the appeal of electing the first black president. He really was a smooth talker. I don’t like the guy, but you can understand his appeal. I don’t think AOC has any of that. No one is motivated to vote for her to be the first Hispanic president or I think woman president. I don’t see that as part of America’s history or psyche To be overcome. I don’t know if that Obama is smart, but he is certainly very clever. I don’t see AOC as being smart or clever. I think it’s apples and oranges.

Remember all the stories about the Malaysia Airlines plane that took off, turned out to sea and was never hear from again? How the networks kept showing that flight path? over and over? and showing pictures of rescue ships rushing to and fro on the wide blue sea? over and over? And day after day long after we all knew it was gone with its unfortunate passengers, CNN still had a special hour dedicated to showing the flight path some more and ...
OK, you remember. So that's been the Dem party (Activist Section) since November 7. That flight path out over a vast emptiness, those endless discussions of the highly qualified, experienced pilots, (who currently are named Bernie and AOC).
There's other kinds of Dems. There's Dems trying to think within a set of crippling rules, like Ezra Klein and Jon Stewart; there's former Democrats like RFK Jr. and Tulsi who have not changed their central concerns and are now representing them inside the Trump administration; there's Seekers.
But there's a lot of Dem leaders, journalists, actors, university presidents, students and foreign poodles on Malaysia Air as it turns out to sea who are just sitting there thinking the future is going to be just like the past. Though the flight path at the present is a little hard to understand. Why that turn back there?

AOC is on tour with Bernie? She's there to add a little Latina spice to Bernie's canned sauerkraut. If they attract crowds, it's probably more because there's not much else going on out there for Democrats or socialists right now, not because AOC's appeal is attracting people who don't always come to such events.

That "little girl" voice. Boston mayor Michelle Wu sounds a lot like AOC. It doesn't inspire trust or confidence. Perhaps feminists want someone who sounds like AOC to be as inspiring a leader as deep-voiced men have been in politics, but it's just not going to happen.

She's not a sure winner, but not necessarily a sure loser. The JFK Democrats have died, or left the party long ago, or embraced the Obama-Biden-Harris party. The DNC's donors won't love her but it's surprising how pretty much every Democrat with a "soak the rich" platform ends up attracting some big donors from NYC, LA, and DC (Bernie, more serious about his socialism than AOC being the possible exception). Both parties can get over 45% of the vote now whoever they run. If AOC runs for president, she's more likely to lose than to win, but it wouldn't be a blow-out or bloodbath for the Democrats.

Ezra Klein recently said of the American populous, we are caught between a party that wants to make government fail and a party that does not make government work.

The solution to a terrible idea is a better idea. It’s easy for Republicans to make government fail. They have a win at all costs approach and a simple goal. Democrats have been in a more difficult spot and are seemingly out of ideas that can be easily explained to the masses. Perhaps it is time for new leadership and new voices. Certainly it is time for better ideas and a government that works.

There are some very accomplished and charismatic leaders inside the Democratic Party -- Josh Shapiro and Wes Moore and Gretchen Whitmer leading my list -- and this new generation ought to become the standard-bearers. These are sensible and smart people who know how to govern. But if the party continues to be identified with the likes of Rashida Tlaib, Ilhan Omar and "the Squad," the Democrats won't win power for an entire generation.
