Leadership with appropriate levity has a gay appeal and disarming effect.

Hard to believe the guy got that close to the President before the SS grabbed him. You'd think he wouldn't have been able to even get on the stage. Good thing his intention apparently wasn't to kill Reagan.

Clearly the guy was an optimist. He had a whole speech prepared.

I don't think that witness in the tux said "And the president recovered his composure with a line that I can't believe" as per the subtitles.

It sounded exactly like "with élan that I can't believe." Plus the witness rolled his eyes up and shook his head as he said the word "élan" to convey vibrancy.

Élan (n): A combination of style and energetic confidence or speed, especially in a performance or someone's behavior.

Élan Musk?

"Is he a Democrat by chance?"
Violent, unhinged, anti-social and narcissistic. He's a Democrat Party member naturally.

This happened in 92. Reagan was no longer President - which may account for the laxer security.

Leftists are the same - decade after daces. well - now they are worse.

The collective vile lie-buying left - many blamed Reagan for AIDS.
No - it was Fauci.

Joy Reid has plenty of time on her hands now to investigate whether Reagan really was hit by that shard of glass and whether the whole thing was a set-up.

thanx Eva! i was drawing blanks about this, until you clued me.
now i vaguely remember it.. I think the media brushed it off as "no big thing"

I'll believe Eve when she says this happened in 92. Prevailing belief now is that Reagan began showing signs of Alzheimer's while he was still in office, yet here he is 4 years after his presidency still sharp enough to poke fun at a lunatic who interrupted him. Doesn't quite seem like he's at a Biden level.

Links, it was 1992

Liberal "rightness" leads to anger; anger leads to violence.

Wince, my favorite closed captioning goof is from YouTube, where Illinois basketball coach Brad Underwood was "Bright Underwear".
I still refer to him as that to my friends.

I would've never guessed that was in 92. By that time, in my mind, Reagan alzheimer's had him unable to even leave the ranch.

That guy killed himself in 2010. At least the radiation didn't get him.

Holy Schmoelies! Yes. Reagan was elected President of the US TWICE. And we had a VERY good life as Americans, during and shortly after his Presidency.
Don't whine about it. It's a FACT!

FWIW, Reagan's Alzheimer's diagnosis apparently didn't come until at least 2 years after this incident, or over 5 years after his Presidency ended, according to the timing given in the public announcement of it. Claims that he was 'showing signs' of it during his presidency are pure speculation, IMO.

I'll go with Ronnies real son and everyone knows Nancy was holding the fort down with Reagans illness. I dont think I gave arms to the bad guys he says from the white house speech Ah yeah...TWO BOOKS WRITTEEN BY THE BOYS. The more contentious of the two is My Father at 100, written by Ron, Reagan's natural son with Nancy.
In it, Ron Reagan describes his growing sense of alarm over his father's mental condition, beginning as early as three years into his first term. He recalls the presidential debate with Walter Mondale on 7 October 1984.
My heart sank as he floundered his way through his responses, fumbling with his notes, uncharacteristically lost for words. He looked tired and bewildered," Ron Reagan writes.YEAH I'LL TAKE 3 YEARS IN FOR $200 ALEX!
