The Democrats have elected their party chair.

See my discussion of the race for the chair, earlier today, here.

Mr. Martin defeated seven other candidates, including his top rival, Ben Wikler, the energetic chairman of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin. Mr. Wikler’s base of support came from the party’s biggest donors and institutional players in Washington....

Mr. Martin won comfortably, with 246.5 votes to Mr. Wikler’s 134.5.

Late Friday, Mr. Wikler disclosed that his financial backers had included the billionaire Reid Hoffman and George Soros’s political action committee, both of which gave him $250,000....

[T]hroughout the campaign for party chair, Mr. Martin and Mr. Wikler both insisted that little was wrong with Democrats’ overall message: that they are the party of working people while Mr. Trump and Republicans align with billionaire moguls.

During a final candidate forum on Thursday in Washington, Mr. Wikler drew rousing applause for defending former Vice President Kamala Harris’s performance as a candidate. Mr. Martin also argued that Democrats did not need to change their message to voters.

“Anyone saying we need to start over with a new message is wrong,” he said. “We got the right message.”...

There's a lot of room between starting over and denying that you've got anything wrong with you. Defending former Vice President Kamala Harris’s performance as a candidate reminds me of a big flaw in her performance: defending Joe Biden's performance as President.

Dr. Mr. Martin - please bring some sanity and honesty back to the D party.

He’s from a one-party failed state where the state and city government let rioters burn Minneapolis burn to the ground.

Smart choice!

Mr.(?) Martin is Chairperson of the Minnesota Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party. The results of the last election in Minnesota confirms his(xis?) party is rejected by farmers, those who do actual labor and those seeking democratic representation.

Amazing. The Democrats found someone more evil than Ben Wikler.

I approve- stick to that game plan!

Ben Wikler loves to get pedophiles like Brett Blomme elected in Wisconsin...

How in the world could he lose?

Too much competition from the Florida democrat party?

Deciding to go all in on failed policies, promoting lies, propaganda, and Marxism.Good job Democrats. You might notice that the most popular and successful Democrats are now Republicans, LOL. Tulsi, Musk, RFKjr.

Retrenchment to the Democrat's electoral glory days of the 1960s. Rebuilding with what worked in the past (white, working class, universal principles rather than identity politics).

1st ballot. Still seems like no competition on the Democrat side.

We've seen now for several decades how the New Soviet Democraticals rig every single election/contest/event/decision/etc they are involved in and then their little minions, like the Althouse lefties, are given instructions and talking points which these little apparatciks always follow without questioning.

As a Minnesota Republican, I applaud this choice.

Democrats have a long way to go to recapture the trust of anyone outside of the progressive echo chamber.

If you look up Peter Principle in the dictionary, the illustration accompanying the definition is Ken Martin. He's just the latest in a long line of Minnesota DFL donks who fold when they reach the big time.

I was gonna say, what a surprise, elected on the first ballot. If there's one thing Progressive Democrats know how to do, it's organize a vote outcome by whatever means necessary. Corruption always dies the ugliest death imaginable, because it insist on circumventing positive creative change. Why do I think corruption was involved? Look at the ideas he ran on: The ones that lost the last national election, yugely. Yet here they are, 2 weeks into a changed political landscape, and the failed ideas are still being championed, and are winning.

And now the search for the Democrat Harold Stassen begins!

"Have you considered utilizing ChatGPT to increase coherence?" The LAST thing the left wants is to be clear and concise. Making their message cloudy, and unclear is how they get elected.

I remember a clip of all DNC Chair nominees agreeing the Kamala lost the election due to racism & misogyny! That'll be a winning position!

I suppose for Democrats, 1/2 is an improvement over 3/5ths?

Well then, its clear you remain deep, deep within the "progressive" (talk about a tell with that word eh? Its Full Leftist amigo. Full. Irreversible. Leftist) echo chamber.

As your every post demonstrates conclusively.

But only every single post.

Without exception.

Remember New Soviet Democraticals, the only problem you really have is a messaging one! People love your policies! Open borders! Open grooming! Censoring speech! Lawfare and weaponization against domestic political opponents and Catholics and parents at School Board meetings, astounding levels of criminal money laundering via "foreign aid"/NGO payouts at the expense of American citizens, etc.

Its just a messaging problem.

Time to triple down on all that.

White male Minnesota Democrat? While decrying the supposed misogynistic-racism that caused Kamala's loss, the party picks him?

Shades of Tim Walz as Harris' VP pick, yet another unknown Minnesota beta male who is unable to capture voters. Guys, this is hardly right step towards reinvigorating party.

Not whom the Dems need here. They need someone who can transform their party back to its roots, as the party of the small people, and not the elite. Instead, they got someone who is an establishment player.

I watched the RFK and Tulsi confirmation hearings. I also watched the DNC Chair forum. Shocking how intellectually bereft the Democratic Party is at this moment. Reminds me of the Republicans in '08.

"...response to Trump".

They needn't bother. We know what the 'response to Trump' is, and no one cares.

Apart from democrats. They always need to be told what The Party thinks so they can fall inline with the talking points. But again, we know what they are - it is the opposite anything Trump.

JIM said...

Not much in the way of diversity, or equity in this choice. "I'm shocked", said no one familiar with the Democrat party "vibe".

“Outgoing chair Jaime Harrison touched on some of those tensions at the top of the elections when he condemned reports that some DNC members had been intimidated, pressured, or threatened by donors who said they would withhold funding over their votes.

“In this party, there will be no tolerance for that type of behavior,” Harrison said. “We must be united because too much is at stake right now in this country.”
