Difficult day for LLR-democratical Rich: The Senate has voted to advance the Laken Riley Act with 60 votes.

Rich is not going to like that. At all.

Maybe Rich will blame that on global warming too, as he did with trying to explain why the New Soviet Democraticals in CA won't clear out excess brush, won't do enough controlled burns, are destroying dams and not filling up reservoirs, cutting fire department budgets to make more funds available for DEI training, refusing to spend funds provided for by bonds supposedly dedicated to fire prevention/support, etc.

Apparently that Mr Global Warming can just walk into a room with dems and make them do irresponsible things.

Who knew?

Are you pretending she has any objection to Free Speech? The only comments she deletes are:
1. Those made by two particular commenters (with at least five user-names between them) who richly deserve to be deleted, as they demonstrate every chance they get.
2. Sometimes those that go way off-topic, especially if they are the first few comments in a thread, to make us focus on the subject.
3. Some comments are randomly deleted by defective blogging software, usually (and very oddly) after they've already appeared, but she is not responsible for that, and the deletions seem to be random.
Claims that she censors any particular band of the political spectrum are obviously false.

Ravel Piano Concerto in G for two pianos, one soloist and one doing piano reduced orchestra. Very nice if you know the concerto. The parts are equally difficult.

Soloist Vivian Chen might be the student of accompanist Ji-Hyang Gwak. The soloist is playing from memory and the accompanist is reading music, the former being worthwhile while you wait for an orchestra assignment, but no such prospect for the accompanist.

You don't get to feel you know Gwak because you never see her breasts (choice of presentation style) hidden behind the soloist. Other videos of her as soloist shows it's the indifference style with a nod to normal fashion. She's in one with accompanist reading from music while she as soloist is not, showing that to be usual in piano reductions of concertos.

Now that Merchan has fooled everyone into thinking there will be no penalty, he is free to sentence Trump to jail. We have passed the event horizon perhaps?

Can anyone tell me why Trump or any of his supporters should pay the slightest degree of respect to the the institutions and "norms" that the political establishment pretends are entitled to it?

Deleting comments that Richly deserve to be deleted is entirely within a blog-hostess's rights and perquisites, but nonetheless does indicate some degree of objection to certain sorts of Free Speech. As does her oft-repeated objection to words ending in -igger. That's why we all use "larger" to indicate that one thing is more big than another. "biggest" is OK.

Jupiter said...

Ehhhhhhh ..... I think she could use some more hair. Maybe she makes up for it in other locations.

"The country rots from the courts." Ok, that's not the saying, but it's true. The power of a judgeship attracts the wrong kind of people, and the power to appoint judges also attracts the wrong kind of people. I am with Buwaya, we were better off under kings in a lot of ways.

@Althouse, unfortunate. We shall see how “symbolic” it is.

The Presidential funeral today made me ponder how often such things happen. It was 6 years between GHWBush's death and Carter's. There was a 21-year gap between LBJ's death and Nixon's; there weren't ANY former Presidents living at the end of Nixon's term of office. The biggest stretch between Presidential deaths was 26+ years: between Washington (1799) and Jefferson/Adams (1826).

rhhardin said...

The Supreme Court can't repair stuff that depends on not breaking certain legal conventions. The law can't be the foundation of itself but relies on such conventions. Any intervention would set an illegal precedent and screw up future law.

Kakistocracy said...

This is good news. I think most people I know will be surprised that a government institution is working as intended. Everyone is so Trump crazy (either as a hater or a fan, whatever) and believes the "other side" is controlling everything. Let's have some faith in the institutions that are still some of the strongest and resilient in the world.

I am trying to find an answer to an important question: if an indictment does not charge a person with violating a specific statute, is the trial judge allowed to instruct the jury to convict on the basis of that statute? Before I come right out in a blog post and say that Trump was convicted of crimes he
was not charged with, I need to be sure that statement is accurate.

About Michelle not coming to Jimmy's funeral, I was reminded of the quote attributed to Yogi Berra. "Always go to other people's funerals, otherwise they won't come to yours."

From Quote Investigator: "In 1987 William Safire who was the language columnist of “The New York Times” asked Yogi Berra about this statement, and Berra denied that he ever made it. Indeed, the jest was circulating before Berra was born.
The earliest evidence known to QI was printed in a novel titled “The Youth of the Period” by J. F. Shaw Kennedy in 1876. The publisher was based in London... :"

Old John Nobbs was one of those present. Going to funerals was quite a mania of his, and he attended every funeral he could for twelve miles round Ledbury.

“Confound it!” John would say, “if I don’t attend other people’s funerals they won’t come to mine.”

They've been ordered to submit to a DOT inspection in Sacramento that's scheduled for 4:30 pm today.
If they clear the inspection, they'll THEN be able to drive 400 miles to Pacific Palisades.
Talk about "looking a gift horse in the mouth."
Then, on the way home, they get inspected again, and if they get red tagged, it's "fix it before you can return."
Does liberal stupidity know no bounds?
(I'm still waiting for a return call from @OSFM to explain this nonsense)

There are four Justices who apparently think all past private business conduct is covered by Presidential immunity, and that it extends to state courts.

That seems a far cry from "the President is immune in his official acts in office", which supposedly was their standard.

A fun fact: the number of stars in our galaxy is approx 3 times the number of humans who have ever lived on earth, 3 x10^11 vs 1.1 x10^11.

I think the people who own and operate Katie Hobbes, the Governor of Arizona, probably let her know a little more about their affairs. Bass is obviously too stupid to walk and chew gum, but Hobbes is glib.
It turns out, that Hobbes is the product of a program that began back in the 90's, to "develop" "future leaders". Which is to say, to audition people to act as "candidates". I expect she knows that her owners are the cartels. But she is sometimes allowed to speak to the press without explicit instructions. She is a lot smarter than the Bass unit.

That estimate of humans on the planet starts from 20000 years ago. Conservative, that.
Consider that each human body contains roughly 3 x 10 to the thirteenth power of cells. One hundred times the number of stars in the Milky Way. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.
