"The book’s word-to-photo ratio is extremely low.... You’ll go 15 pages with no captions at all, then get a bland sentence like 'Bidding farewell to Barack and Michelle Obama on Inauguration Day, January 20, 2017.'"

"And none of the words are in Trump’s handwriting, unless you count the slogan 'NEVER GIVE UP, NEVER SURRENDER' on the full-page mug shot that opens the book..... There are six pictures of Trump raising his fist after the assassination attempt. I guess you could say this is another example of lazy design choices, but I’m listing it as a high because the image is undeniably iconic from any angle, and if I survived an assassination attempt, that would be the subject of all 359 pages of the book. Low: There are 15 pages on Trump golfing.... There are shots of Trump sitting in a golf cart, chatting with various golf pros, holding a map of his club in Scotland at his club in Scotland, and swinging a golf club from multiple angles. One page is a zoomed in photo of the back of Trump’s MAGA hat-clad head with the caption, 'Who is this Handsome man?'"

You know, some people just want more pictures of Trump. I want more pictures of the people at Trump rallies, so let me give you one more from Meade's sojourn to Mosinee, Wisconsin:

At the Mosinee Trump rally

This picture has been growing on me. The shadows, the elbow, the mushrooms, the long foot.

I guess if you don’t like golf you don’t like golf pictures.

Coffee table books are supposed to be visually oriented. Lefties think coffee table books are those ghost written must-read political tomes they never read even though its out on the coffee table…

I have a couple golf coffee table books

"I feel sad I have to come up here and explain it. I have all of this legal talent, but legal talent cannot overcome rigged judges, they can’t overcome a 4% Republican area, and I’m disappointed in my legal talent, I’ll be honest with you. They’re good people, they’re talented people. Today at the trial they didn’t mention the dress. So the Monica Lewinsky-type dress was a big part of the trial, big, big part of the trial. I said, ‘why didn’t you mention that?’ And I heard there was a dress involved and I wasn’t frightened at all because I did nothing with her. Never touched this woman, saw this woman — I had no idea who she was. ‘But they have a dress, sir.’ I said, ‘so what?’ ‘Well, sir, it’s very serious.’ They used that dress to try and intimidate me, they used that dress with the public, that dress was such a famous dress. It was Monica Lewinsky part two, the dress, and the judge wanted it for trial and it was going to go into trial and then they found out there was nothing on the dress, which I knew and then the judge wouldn’t allow it to be used so they used it as a cudgel, they used it as a hammer over my head."

He's totally nuts.

No. Nuts is the person who spends every waking moment of his life cutting and pasting random thoughts by some politician.

That's to let everyone know you think the right (read: approved) thoughts and aren't one of *those* people.

In yardsign news, the young couple who moved in at the other end of our street about a year ago put one out, way up by their front porch.

It's pink with white lettering and floral designs, and says "Madame President" in very large type, and "Harris - Walz 2024" underneath, very small.

In other news, Francisco Franco is still dead.

Fake news- not "random thoughts"- it was a "speech/press conference". He didn't think it, he said it.

The book was probably on an imposible deadline. Keeping cost down?

Here is Jordan Peterson talking about how Trump projects are delivered on time and on budget.

I clicked on the picture so i can zoom in on the long foot and the elbow. The shoe is a Japanese bullet train. The elbow is a small looking elbow for a large man = Althouse Comedy Gold.

"Debunked gossip." Even Trump's coffee table books are fact-checked! And after years of complaints about Trump's overly discursive nature, his coffee table book is skimping on words. What exactly is the proper ratio of words to pictures for coffee table books? New York magazine doesn't tell us, but it is enough to say Trump doesn't meet the critic's standard.

I want the book. On Amazon it costs 92 bucks. (It’s #317 in Amazon book sales ranking.) What’s even more intriguing, on the same page as the Trump book, there was an entry for Melania’s book (only $28). Black cover, Melania in white type. Release date in October. It’s already #33 in sales ranking on Amazon.

Dixcus said...

Do you think it will make the NY Times Bestseller List? Or maybe nah?

"Never Give Up. Never Surrender"

My heart. 🥰

Okay, that does it. I've never voted for him before and altho I tentatively planned to do so this year, he usually manages to say something revolting enough to turn me away. (I live in Commie WA state, so my vote doesn't matter). But now that he cornered the Galaxy Quest fanboy/fangirl crowd, of which I am proud member, I'm all in. He will need to do something spectacularly stupid (like calling a woman the c-word) to change my mind.

Of course, there's still 55+ days for him to get through.

Eva Marie said...

The Melania book may very well get #1 ranking in Amazon’s list. I haven’t seen any publicity and it’s already at #33. That’s impressive. The NYT best seller list is sketchy . Compiled from sales figures “from a variety of sources “ - so basically whatever the NYT wants it to be.

It is not a real coffee table book unless it has folding legs and can be used as a coffee table.

Look for the Kramerica Inc label, accept no substitutes.

Guess if I kept posting "Inga sucks" , the Know Nothings would consider me a rational member of the Althouse community.

What's your point? Trump shouldn't defend himself?

Aggie said...

I haven't seen any Blue Dot signs anywhere, but on the last election day I was in the Dallas area, and there were a ton of fat girls with blue hair and tackle-box faces, and a bunch of neighborhoods where big, wide blue ribbons had been tied around all of the trees in streets with central medians. I thought it was obnoxious.

Readers of a certain age will recall Dwight Eisenhower -- "I Like Ike."

Dwight D. Eisenhower: five-star general, 34th president of the United States … and the ultimate ambassador for golf? That’s right. Eisenhower’s popularity was at an all-time high in the changing culture of post-war America, and with a public passion for the game, an eager nation rallied behind golf to be more like Ike.
