"It’s not me being out there like Jane Fonda or something. It’s different, and the approach is different. It’s just like code-switching."

"If I lived in [Los Angeles], my conversation is absolutely going to be different. But we also know you’ve got to read the room, you’ve got to know your audience and know who you’re talking to."

Said North Carolina State Rep. Diamond Staton-Williams, a Democrat, quoted in "In N.C., some Black voters are uneasy with Harris’s abortion rights focus/Democrats worry that socially conservative Black voters in the South are wary of Harris’s outspoken support for reproductive freedom" (WaPo)(free-access link).

[I]t is doubtful that Walz concerns himself much with the ethics of “women’s reproductive health,” including abortion, since he signed a bill last year that would no longer require doctors to preserve the life of infants who survive abortion.
Whereas Minnesota law used to require medical personnel to “preserve the life and health of the born alive infant,” the Walz-approved law says only that doctors “care for the infant who is born alive.”

So “care” can mean “let die,” if one’s conscience permits. Such deceptive language is the stuff of nightmares and leads to the gulag....

They call it ‘reproductive freedom’? The late stage stuff is pretty fucking sick…

I doubt there's as much support for abortion in the 9th month as she thinks there is. And one would hope her continual lying about Trump wanting to impose a complete ban would give voters pause.

You don't have to learn to read the room in a one party state like California. You can safely assume that "everyone thinks like me"--or if they don't they are cowed into submission. And after a flameout in her only set of Presidential primaries (where she obviously couldn't read a lot of different rooms) she was anointed on a sort of Chinese menu selection. She was Black--sorta--and she was female.

If they're afraid of the word 'abortion' (they are), what they're talking about is not ‘reproductive freedom’, it's the freedom to not reproduce.

Pity their parents didn't believe in it.

They should just do as always: lie about who and what they really are. It’s not like they’re ever held accountable.

I feel that Shamala is the same whereever she goes and the sameness is, as the song says, that " she's always a woman." I don't mean other female politicians haven't been womanly but watching the interview I began to think that Shamala is always being a woman in the presence of a man whom she's trying to attract or with whom she has forged a bond. When she isn't doing that, she sort of disappears. When she has to pay attention to a woman reporter or voter that she becomes very perfunctory as when she simply brushed off one of Dana Bash's questions. "Political Theatre. Next question." Shamala tries to behave as if she cared about policies but really she finds the whole thing boring. Why does she have to prepare when she can charm so that an entirely vacuous answer like "My principles never change but my policies do" is accepted? And look at how is she preparing for the Trump debate? By agreeing with Trump. "I support fracking, the border wall, no tax on tips and you can expect me to take up other Trump positions, I mean policies, as time goes by." (Real meaning: "Shouldn't we just go to bed? Laughs.) I expect her to try to project "This is a seduction scene" to Trump onstage so that he won't challenge her when they debate. Call me crazy, but I think he likes women like her and she knows it and that's her preparation and she's ready and laughing. Still, Trump's known a lot of women; maybe he can seduce her into throwing the debate. The last laugh.

I'm on the same road, wildswan. The way she sat during the interview -- small and cuddly -- set off all kinds of alarms for me. She didn't invite Walz so he could answer the questions, she invited him so that a man would admire her.

Eventually there is no-one left to lie to. This is the problem with a coalition based on log-rolling in an era of instant and effortless communication.

I didn't read the article, but it's no secret w/in the conservative (church going) black community that abortion isn't the sacrament that white liberal women view it. After all, Margaret Sanger was a proponent of eugenics and she wasn't targeting whites. She also spoke to the KKK. So yea, I can see why "abortion now, abortion forever" isn't a priority w/in that community.

Wince said...

In the end, any objective review of both candidates' stance will reveal Harris is the extremist on the issue of abortion.

"Reproductive freedom." Right. I heard Adam Carolla the other day, berating two women who kept using that term. He told them that it's about abortion, and they should be precise and use that word. No one is telling women if they can have a baby or not.

Wa St Blogger said...

Anything later term is not reproductive freedom. The support for anything post 15 weeks give lie to the idea of my body, my choice. The left has no concern for the vulnerable young unless it advances their power, but their power is most advanced when they support sacrificing viable children to the god Molech. To say that any unwanted child should be protected opens the slippery-slope that the age in which it is no longer ok to abort reduces to one. Any restriction on termination of an unwanted child is a threat to all terminations. Better to kill a few hundred babies than to risk the elimination of a million abortions. Those babies are the eggs that make the reproductive freedom omelet.

I would have that the Somali/Muslim community in Minnesota would be socially conserative on the issue of abortion but apparently that's not really the case.

“‘Reproductive freedom.’ Right. I heard Adam Carolla the other day, berating two women who kept using that term. He told them that it's about abortion, and they should be precise and use that word.”

The term they should be using is, for all elective abortions, “premeditated homicide.”

The only difference is that with abortions, the bodies are easier to hide.

Kamala Harris worked at McDonalds ... just like us. Her campaign won't tell us which McDonalds she worked for. Or what year she worked there. Because then we could check with corporate McDonalds to see if she actually worked there. Which she didn't. It's all a lie. Just like everything else about her fake campaign and our fake elections.

Kamala Harris didn't win a single Democrat Party primary. And she's not going to win a single state in the election. And she's going to be your next President.

They would have gotten it written into the constitution, and it'd be LAW..

Of course, THEN What would they have fund raised on?

Reproductive rites end where your child's life begins. The current statutes in all 50 states define the character of murder from six weeks. #NoJudgment #NoLabels, but it's still homicide. Dumb of Trump to try to rebrand as a pro-choice Republican in an election year. I don't know how many pro-lifers will stay at home rather than vote for him. How many Democrats will cross the aisle and pull that lever for the "new and improved" pro-choice Trump? Does he really think that Democrats will forgive him for overturning Roe v. Wade?

His campaign has been pretty smart so far, but his recent abortion commentary is stupid as political strategy. He seems afraid of Harris on this issue, which is bizarre. She's clearly vulnerable.

Trump should say forcibly that a "person" is a "live human being" and let her defend her position. Trump should also talk about emergency contraception for rape victims.

I wrote Pro-Life Talking Points for the campaign against Joe Biden. But really, it works against any Democrat. They are all-in on classifying unborn children as non-people, sub-human, property. Trump should make that attack without betraying unborn children. It's not that hard.

"Read the room" is the magic political trick of saying what you think people want to hear. I'm used to it here in California with regards to Republicans. They still can't understand why they are a super-minority. Stand up for what you believe, stop worrying about the fake outrage from democrats. Grow a spine! Meanwhile Democrats will say what's on their mind, but mostly in code. Like "reproductive freedom". Orwellian.

Black Americans historically, and still now, I believe, were more traditional/conservative on sexual matters than White Americans. The sad thing is that many D led laws/policies enacted over the last 20 to 30-years never would have becoime laws/public policy if Black Americans spoke their actual beliefs instead of following the lead of liberal San Francisco Democrats.

Jars up jars of severed baby feet were stacked inside the refrigerators.

By the end of the search, authorities had found 47 aborted fetuses and infants stored at the facility – including one late-term infant frozen inside a water bottle.
