He didn’t see a third party playing a spoiler role to Democrats as bad—obviously, since he’s about to do it again. He did support Barack Obama in 2008, but he turned on him fairly quickly, making criticisms that went way beyond Obama’s political decisions. Then he supported Jill Stein in 2016. More recently, West has gone off the deep end. He promoted his 2024 candidacy, on the fringe People’s Party line, with an appearance on former comedian Russell Brand’s Web show, now frequented by right-wingers.... This is a downhill spiral even for West, who also spiraled downward after Obama’s victory.... [C]alling the president 'a black mascot of Wall Street oligarchs and a black puppet of corporate plutocrats' was awful. West went on to claim that Obama was afraid of 'free black men' thanks to his white ancestry and Ivy League education.... What does West bring to the [2024] race?"

What West should do, before going 3rd party, is to run in the Democratic primaries. It is surprising to me that no black man has declared to challenge Biden in the primaries- also surprising no woman other than Williamson has. Biden is the weakest incumbent I have ever seen running for re-election in either party- far weaker than even Jimmy Carter, and Carter got a strong challenge in the primaries. Biden is someone who couldn't win a single primary without the national party literally rigging the process. I do know that potential challengers are afraid of having it rigged for Biden again, but strong challengers should realize that an early strong challenge might get them to rigged it the other way given Biden has shit for his brains.
But, if people like Walsh are worrried about West, maybe they will get lucky and the DoJ will indict him for something.

Gates is an opportunist who will say one thing in the morning and the opposite in the afternoon, but when it comes to racial paranoia, he's either lying about lacking it, or he's indulging in it. I don't see him as a factor in the primary. He pissed off the sainted Obamas too much.

Obama deserved criticism. I prefer that to the over-the-top praise he was given.
If left-wing Russell Brand can attract a right-wing audience, maybe he shouldn't be dismissed so easily.
I think that it is telling that one of Joan Walsh's complaints about West is that he " Russell Brand’s Web show, now frequented by right-wingers." Her big complaint about the show is that those icky right wingers actually watch the show. Now, I've watched the show many times and Russell Brand is not a right winger, so it's an interesting question about why the right wing watches it. But in this context, a more interesting question (at least to me) is why leftists like Joan Walsh don't watch it.

When you read the article, you understand how it is that squish-Left Democrats live in such an ideological bubble that not only do they not understand Righties of any stripe, they don't even understand the Left flank of their side.

I say that as someone who likes some of Brand's schtick, and I've always given West credit for consistency.

Yancey point at the real question. A rational person might well ask why Biden has no serious challenge from the Dem party. He's the weakest incumbent I've ever see, and very old. Why not put up a viable younger candidate? Who might plausibly be in office 8 years?I
My take is that Biden himself is a mere figurehead, as would be Harris. The power boys have it good now. Why run the risk of an untested puppet, one who might turn out to have inconvenient scruples? Plenty of time for that planning come 2026.

Many people on the Right like to debate ideas, so they tend to congregate in places where that is possible. I disagree with at least 50% of Brand's positions, but find him an interesting thinker and speaker, best of all he respects his guests even when he disagrees with them.
West is mellowing for grift, that's all.

Brand, like many other principled liberals capable of logic and reason and consistency, is another good case study represented by the graphic which shows the far left stick figure running so far to the left the liberal stick figure finds himself or herself (yes Dumb Lefty Mark, there's only 2 choices) on the "right" or "far right".
