"A White House wedding has historically been the sort of rare event that can add a modern sheen to the dustiness of the presidency."

"It can — for an afternoon, at least — turn the press from restive to fawning. And it can give the president a needed feel-good story."

That's the sad puffery of the first 3 sentences of "What We Know About Naomi Biden’s White House Wedding/Invitations are in hand, but the administration is taking a state-secret approach to most of the details, citing the privacy of the president’s granddaughter and her fiancé, Peter Neal."

In The New York Times.

Insanely, Trump shows up in this:

In 2019, the bride called a family meeting to urge her grandfather to run for the presidency against Donald J. Trump, who was seeking a second term. At the time, Mr. Biden was hesitant to subject his family to attacks from Mr. Trump. But Ms. Biden — along with her two younger sisters, Finnegan and Maisy, and their cousins — urged him to get into the race.

Was it Ivanka Trump showing midriff?

That was a significant factor in Biden's deciding to run for President in 2019?

My God, the idea that Biden had to be persuaded to run for Pres. Nothing else would have pushed him over the line except the tears of his beloved granddaughter. Let's imagine the coverage of American Olympic athletes by American TV: on top of everything else, his beloved dog Snoopy died of cancer. He took it as a sign.

When has Biden not been running for Pres? He was caught lying about law school in 1987, 45 years ago.

Oops. 35. My math is bad.

Would be better for the country if it could turn the press from fawning to restive.

What a change, to have a fawning press around the Biden White House!

Who cares about attacks on the family if it gives you a shot at a White House wedding?

Biden has repeatedly said that his fake impression if the Charlottesville rally is what "convinced" him to run.

If 1987 was 45 years a go then I am older than I thought!

Hunter's kid? I'm sure with all that he has put her through, including divorcing her mother so he could fuck her aunt after her uncle died of brain cancer, she could handle a mean tweet or two from Trump.

Of course the whole story is made up.

NYT advises a royal wedding to help keep the press in fawning mode. America's newspaper of record speaking truth to power.

Trump.

The bride at every funeral; the corpse at every wedding.

Please oh please let the fawning begin….

It'll be like any other White House wedding except that the President will have to be reminded of who the young couple are and he will get inappropriately handsy with the bride.

This should be illegal as a waste of taxpayer money and a misuse of public property. The bride does not live at the White House. She's the granddaughter - not the young still living with mom and did kid - of the President. Exactly how much grift do we need to support for the extended family of a President?

He did with his 18 yr old granddaughter when he put the "I Voted" sticker on her.

Biden cops a feel from his 18 yr old granddaughter

Timesese for "Mr. Biden knew his son, brother, and sister were crooks and feared it would come out if he ran."

I'm looking forward to Director Wray's testimony that no report which might interfere with a scheduled White House wedding can be made public.

Congratulations to the happy couple, the groom and bride, the husband and wife to be.

But there is a method to their madness, and it works.

I wonder if Biden showered with her too?? Or did Hunter?? All in the Family!!!

Wait. Are they saying, in their obsequious and roundabout way, that the press is not fawning over him now? Really!

I thought it was Beau's death fighting in the Khyber Pass above Afghanistan with Rudyard Kipling that gave Biden the impetus to run.

In truth, the writer really only wanted to call out the names "Maisy and Finnegan" in the article, probably to prove up Biden's cred as an old-line WASP aristocrat -- Scrayant'n and all the rest be damned.

Joe, actually the bride lives at the White House. Does that make a difference? Apparently POTUS's grown kids don't, so there are plenty of bedrooms available. What I don't know is whether she shares one with her fiance. A job for Veritas.
