I got there through this NYT article: "Lauren Hough Loses Lambda Prize Nomination After a Twitter Feud/Her essay collection was removed from contention in the category of best lesbian memoir after she went on Twitter to defend a forthcoming Sandra Newman novel from charges that it was transphobic."
Here's Hough's memoir, "Leaving Isn’t The Hardest Thing." It's about being a lesbian serving in the Air Force during the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" period.
The NYT article doesn't contain the acronym "TERF." It does use the phrase for which TERF is an acronym: "trans-exclusionary radical feminist."
Here's Newman's novel, "The Men," which has a cover image of XX and a publisher's description that also refers to chromosomes: "a dazzling, mindbending novel in which all people with a Y chromosome mysteriously disappear from the face of the earth." I think the TERF accusation is all about equating "men" with "Y chromosome."

Someone writes a book of fiction -- some might say fantasy -- about the roughly 50% of humanity with a Y chromosome suddenly disappearing, and the problematic part is using a three-letter word to describe them, even though some XY-humans identify as five-letter words instead?
Or is the problematic part that some XX-humans identify as the three-letter words but we're (to borrow the name of another recent-ish book) Left Behind when all the other three-letter words went to The Good Place? Man, I am confused.

The other day, in an art book, I saw a reproduction of a Jenny Holzer work that featured the slogan in electric lights, "Raise Boys and Girls The Same Way." People can argue about whether that's art and about whether it would be desirable or even possible, but what happened to Second Wave feminism's dream of a unisex world? Could it have happened? Could the dream have lasted? Was it ever seriously meant?

You may have hit upon a Swiftian solution to this whole mess. Let's declare the words "men" and "women" wrongthink and instead use "3" and "5" as notation of how a person identifies. Over time the association of "3" with "man" and "5" with "woman" will be lost. Everyone can just have their preferred number on their forehead so everyone knows what you think of yourself.
Of course, in reality the "3" will still highly correlate with "XY" chromosomes. But since it won't be obvious that correlation can be suppressed by the elites.

We are currently in an all-encompassing, years long moral panic, led by people who combine the worse traits of communism, mental illness, and religious fanaticism. The disciples of "tolerance" or "woke" or whatever is approved this week go from one panic to the next, trying to out virtue each other, whether this be about masks or transgenderism or race relations or Ukraine. These are the exact sort of people that Orwell had in mind for his Two Minutes Hate. They are mindless and they are only useful as a mob to be manipulated.

As I have mentioned before, as a student of history I would always wonder why people did weird things in moments of crisis, like get into major theological debates while the enemy was literally at the walls, or argue about the official title of a recently deposed leader as the nomads from the north ravaged everywhere.
